Mesoscale fracture behavior of Longmaxi outcrop shale with different bedding angles:Experimental and numerical investigations

The mechanical properties and fracturing mechanism of shale containing beddings are critically important in shale gas exploitation and wellbore *** investigate the effects of shale bedding on crack behavior and fracturing mechanism,scanning electron microscope(SEM)with a loading system was employed to carry out three-point bending tests on Longmaxi outcrop *** crack initiation and propagation of Longmaxi shale were observed and recorded by taking photos during *** cracking paths were extracted to calculate the crack length through a MATLAB *** peak load,fracture toughness and fracture energy all increase with the bedding angle from 0°to 90°.The crack length and energy were also found to increase with the bedding angle in the range of 0°-600 and then drop *** fracturing mechanism of shale includes the main crack affected by the bedding angle and disturbed by randomly distributed *** main cracking path was accompanied by several microcrack branches which could form an interconnected crack *** the main crack encounters larger sedimentary particles,it will deflect around the particles and then restore to the initial direction.A numerical technique using extended finite element method(XFEM)coupled with anisotropic cohesive damage criteria was developed,which is able to capture the dependence of crack propagations on bedding angle and sedimentary *** study sheds light on understanding and predicting mesoscale fracture behavior of shale with different bedding angles.

BACKGROUND Single-organ vasculitis(SOV)is characterized by inflammation of a blood vessel,affecting one organ,such as the skin,genitourinary system,or the aorta without systemic *** SOV is rare,with hepatic artery involvement reported only in two prior published ***,we presented a case of isolated hepatic artery vasculitis presenting after Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** SUMMARY A 50-year-old woman with hypertension presented to our Emergency Department with recurrent diffuse abdominal pain that localized to the epigastrium and emesis without diarrhea that began eight days after the second dose of the PfizerBioNTech COVID-19 *** work revealed an elevated C-reactive protein(CRP)of 19 mg/L(normal<4.8 mg/L),alkaline phosphatase 150 U/L(normal 25-105 U/L),gamma-glutamyl transferase(GGT)45 U/L(normal<43 U/L)and elevated immunoglobulins(Ig)G 18.4 g/L(normal 7-16 g/L)and IgA 4.4 g/L(normal 0.7-4 g/L).An abdominal computed tomography revealed findings in keeping with hepatic artery vasculitis.A detailed review of her history and examination did not reveal infectious or systemic autoimmune causes of her *** extensive autoimmune panel was ***-19polymerase chain reaction nasopharyngeal swab,human immunodeficiency virus,viral hepatitis and Heliobacter pylori serology were *** six months,the patient’s symptoms,and blood work spontaneously *** High clinical suspicion of SOV is required for diagnosis in patients with acute abdominal pain and dyspepsia.

Since December 2019,a novel coronavirus that represents a serious threat to human lives has *** is still no definite treatment for severe cases of the disease caused by this virus,named coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).One of the most considered treatment strategies targets the exaggerated immune regulator,and interleukin(IL)-6 is a crucial pro-inflammatory *** acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARSCoV-2)cases show an elevated level of IL-6 related to disease ***-6 activity can be inhibited by the following:IL-6 itself,IL-6 signaling pathways such as Janus kinase and signal transducer and activator of transcription(JAK-STAT),gp130,IL-6R,and downstream activated ILs,such as IL-17 and IL-6 ***,according to these studies and their results,IL-6 blockade with anti-IL-6 or its receptor antibodies such as tocilizumab in COVID-19 is beneficial in severe cases and may reduce the mortality ***-STAT inhibitors block the cytokine storm by inhibiting several crucial pro-inflammatory mediators such as TNF-αand IL-6 and have shown various results in clinical ***-6 induces IL-17 secretion,and IL-17 is involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory *** trials of anti-IL-17 drugs are currently recruiting,and anti-gp130 antibody is ***,this agent has shown positive effects in inflammatory bowel disease clinical trials and could be tested for *** study aimed to review the role of IL-6 in the cytokine storm and studies regarding IL-6 and blockade of its inflammatory pathways in COVID-19 to determine if any of these agents are beneficial for COVID-19 patients.
