The monsoon low-level jet(MLLJ)originates at Mascarene high and after traveling thousands of kilometers enters India from the western boundary causing deep convection,cloudiness,and *** its core lies at 850 hPa,it has a large vertical extent;therefore,different meteorological parameters at different levels have a large influence on the Indian summer monsoon *** study aims to examine the upper-air climatology of 9 stations on the west coast and central Peninsular India and to find out the effects of various parameters at different standard pressure levels on the Indian summer monsoon rainfall *** used the 34-yr(1971–2004)actual upper-air radiosonde/radio wind and standard synoptic surface observations data from these 9 stations and reported some new aspects of the *** NCEP/NCAR and ECMWF reanalysis wind data have also been used to holistically study the features of MLLJ over sea and land *** study,as opposed to some recent studies,confirms the splitting of MLLJ into two branches,which can be seen on a few days during the monsoon *** analyses show that the change in geopotential height between 800 and 900 hPa has a strong bearing on the strength of *** change in the upper-air pressure gradient force over the Indian landmass can cause a change in the wind speed of MLLJ during the monsoon season.

Biogenic coalbed methane(BCBM)reservoirs aim to produce methane from in situ coal deposits following microbial conversion of *** of BCBM reservoirs requires economic methane production within an acceptable *** work reported here quantifies the findings of previously published qualitative work,where it was found that bioconversion induces strains in the pore,matrix and bulk *** imaging and dynamic strain monitoring techniques,the bioconversion induced strain is quantified *** understand the effect of these strains from a reservoir geomechanics perspective,a corresponding poromechanical model is ***,findings of imaging experiments are validated using core-flooding flow ***,expected field-scale behavior of the permeability response of a BCBM operation is modeled and *** results of the study indicated that,for Illinois coals,bioconversion induced strains result in a decrease in fracture porosity,resulting in a detrimental permeability drop in excess of 60%during bioconversion,which festers itself exponentially throughout its producing *** indicate that reservoirs with high initial permeability that will support higher Darcian flowrates,would be better suited for coal bioconversion,thereby providing a site-selection criteria for BCBM operations.

Coaxial plasma guns are a type of plasma source that produces plasma which propagates radially and axially controlled by the shape of the ground electrode, which has attracted much interest in several applications. In this work, a 120° opening angle of CPG nozzle is used as a plasma gun configuration that operates at the energy of 150 J. The ionization of polyethylene insulator between the electrodes of the gun produces a cloud of hydrogen and carbon *** triple Langmuir probe and Faraday cup are used to measure plasma density and plasma temperature. These methods are used to measure the on-axis and off-axis plasma divergence of the coaxial plasma gun. The peak values of ion densities measured at a distance of 25 mm on-axis from the plasma gun are(1.6±0.5)×10^(19)m^(-3)and(2.8±0.6)×10^(19)m^(-3)for hydrogen and carbon plasma respectively and the peak temperature is 3.02±0.5 eV. The mean propagation velocity of plasma is calculated using the transit times of plasma at different distances from the plasma gun and is found to be 4.54±0.25 cm/μs and 1.81±0.18 cm/μs for hydrogen and carbon plasma respectively. The Debye radius is obtained from the measured experimental data that satisfies the thin sheath approximation. The shot-to-shot stability of plasma parameters facilitates the use of plasma guns in laboratory experiments. These types of plasma sources can be used in many applications like plasma opening switches, plasma devices, and as plasma sources.

This paper studies the optimal policy for joint control of admission, routing, service, and jockeying in a queueing system consisting of two exponential servers in *** arrive according to a Poisson *** each arrival, an admission/routing decision is made, and the accepted job is routed to one of the two servers with each being associated with a *** each service completion, the servers have an option of serving a job from its own queue, serving a jockeying job from another queue, or staying *** system performance is inclusive of the revenues from accepted jobs, the costs of holding jobs in queues, the service costs and the job jockeying *** maximize the total expected discounted return, we formulate a Markov decision process(MDP) model for this *** value iteration method is employed to characterize the optimal policy as a hedging point *** studies verify the structure of the hedging point policy which is convenient for implementing control actions in practice.

A case of strangulation of the transverse colon in a traumatic left diaphragmatic hernia manifesting as pericarditis is reported. This is unusual because pericardial signs in traumatic diaphragmatic hernia have been previously described in association with direct pericardial injury. This is the only such case where electrocardiographic changes of pericarditis were seen without direct pericardial trauma. The possibility of internal herniation through a traumatic diaphragmatic hernia must be considered in patients with chest symptoms and a compatible history.

The onset of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis(MASH)or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)represents a tipping point leading to liver injury and subsequent hepatic complications in the natural progression of what is now termed metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver diseases(MASLD),formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).With no pharmacological treat-ment currently available for MASH/NASH,the race is on to develop drugs targeting multiple facets of hepatic metabolism,inflammation,and pro-fibrotic events,which are major drivers of *** receptors(NRs)regulate genomic transcription upon binding to lipophilic ligands and govern multiple aspects of liver metabolism and *** of NRs may include hormones,lipids,bile acids,and synthetic ligands,which upon binding to NRs regulate the transcriptional activities of target *** ligands are presently the most promising drug candidates expected to receive approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration as a pharmacological treatment for *** review aims to cover the current understanding of NRs,including nuclear hormone receptors,non-steroid hormone receptors,circadian NRs,and orphan NRs,which are currently undergoing clinical trials for MASH treatment,along with NRs that have shown promising results in preclinical studies.

Phasor measurement units(PMUs)are preferred for installation at weak buses in a power ***,the weak buses need to be located and the strategic locations of PMUs identified to ensure network ***,the primary aim of this work is to identify the placements of the maximum number of PMUs installed at the weak buses in the electrical *** voltage collapse proximity indicator,line stability index,fast voltage stability index,and a new voltage stability indicator utilizing load flow measurement are used to determine the weak buses.A novel deterministic methodology based on a binary-integer linear programming model is then proposed to determine the optimal locations of *** effect of a single PMU outage considering the weak buses is also *** effectiveness of the developed approach is tested and validated on the standard IEEE 14-,118-,300-,and New England 39-bus *** obtained results are also compared to those using different weak bus methodologies.
