motility-based label-free detection of parasites in bodily fluids using holographic speckle analysis and deep learning

Parasitic infections constitute a major global public health *** screening methods that are based on manual microscopic examination often struggle to provide sufficient volumetric throughput and sensitivity to facilitate early ***,we demonstrate a motility-based label-free computational imaging platform to rapidly detect motile parasites in optically dense bodily fluids by utilizing the locomotion of the parasites as a specific biomarker and endogenous contrast *** on this principle,a cost-effective and mobile instrument,which rapidly screens~3.2 mL of fluid sample in three dimensions,was built to automatically detect and count motile microorganisms using their holographic time-lapse speckle *** demonstrate the capabilities of our platform by detecting trypanosomes,which are motile protozoan parasites,with various species that cause deadly diseases affecting millions of people *** a holographic speckle analysis algorithm combined with deep learningbased classification,we demonstrate sensitive and label-free detection of trypanosomes within spiked whole blood and artificial cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)samples,achieving a limit of detection of ten trypanosomes per mL of whole blood(~five-fold better than the current state-of-the-art parasitological method)and three trypanosomes per mL of *** further demonstrate that this platform can be applied to detect other motile parasites by imaging Trichomonas vaginalis,the causative agent of trichomoniasis,which affects 275 million people *** its costeffective,portable design and rapid screening time,this unique platform has the potential to be applied for sensitive and timely diagnosis of neglected tropical diseases caused by motile parasites and other parasitic infections in resource-limited regions.

Survival differences of low-grade versus high-grade head and neck pleomorphic dermal sarcomas and a review of a scalp case

On the mathematical modelling of Adaptive Darrieus Wind Turbine

Darrieus wind turbines are experiencing a renewed interest for their application in decentralized power generation and urban installation. much attention and research efforts have been dedicated in the past to develop as an efficient standalone Darrieus turbine. Despite these efforts, these vertical axis turbines are still low in efficiency compared to the horizontal axis counterparts. The current architecture of the turbine and their inherent characteristics limit their application in low wind speed areas as confirmed experimentally and computationally by past research. To enable and extend their operation for weak wind flows, a novel design of Adaptive Darrieus Wind Turbine (ADWT) is proposed. The hybrid Darrieus Savonius rotor with dynamically varying Savonius rotor diameter based on the wind speed enables the turbine to start, efficiently operate and stop the turbine at high winds. As the wake of Savonius rotor has a profound impact on the power performance of the combined rotor, the wake of two buckets Savonius rotor in open and closed configuration is reviewed. The current study aims to develop an analytical model to predict the power coefficient and the influence of other design parameters on the proposed design. The formulated analytical model is coded in python, and the results are obtained for the 10 kW rotor. Parametric analysis on the chord length and the diameter of the closed Savonius rotor is performed in search of an optimized diameter to maximize the annual energy output. Blade torque and the rotor torque are evaluated with respect to azimuthal angle and compared with conventional Darrieus rotor. The computed results show that peak power coefficient of ADWT is 13% lower than the conventional Darrieus rotor at the rated wind speed of 10 m/s.

不明原因肾病(CKDu)是斯里兰卡亟需解决的重要民生问题,其地下水源饮用水中的溶解性污染物可能是重要的致病原因。系统分析了北部中心省内高、低、非发病区及对照区(HR、LR、NR、CR)干湿季地下水的水化学特征和DOm特性,结果表明:地下水主要呈Ca-mg-HCO3型,硬度和F-超标率较高,是地下水作为饮水安全保障最关键的指标;地下水中DOm主要为自生源,芳香性和腐熟化程度较低,主要为富里酸、腐殖酸和小分子蛋白质类物质;湿季DOm浓度较高,是Fe浓度增加的关键原因;而干季地下水中微生物活性较高,腐殖质和蛋白质发生分解,小分子络氨酸/赖氨酸的浓度增加。同时,发现不同区域地下水中DOm的生物利用性表现为HRm最稳定,SUVA为(3.29±0.44)L·(mg·m)^-1,芳香性较高。有机无机的相互作用导致赋存形态、生物可利用性的变化可能是CKDu致病的重要原因。针对以上问题,提出"吸附-除F-软化-NF-消毒"的处理策略,通过有机物吸附处理、阴离子交换除F、软化除硬分离预处理及NF深度处理等技术有效解决地下水中DOm、F-、Ca^2+和mg^2+超标的问题,实现饮用水的供给。本研究全面分析了CKDu病区地下水中的污染物组成,并提出解决策略,可为斯里兰卡饮用水安全保障提供支撑。

Transcatheter Closure *** Ligation in Preterm Infants with Patent Ductus Arteriosus:A Systematic Review and meta-Analysis

Background:Persistent patent ductus arteriosus(pPDA)is a common condition in preterm *** metaanalysis aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of transcatheter closure(TC)when compared to surgical ligation(SL)in preterm infants with ***:A literature search of Ovid Cochrane Library,medline,Embase,Epub,Scopus,PmC Preprints,and *** was conducted from inception to may 06,*** studies reported infants diagnosed with pPDA born at≤2000 g birth weight or at≤37 weeks’who underwent TC or SL as *** review was registered in PROSPERO(CRD42022325944).Results:From 97 studies screened,8 studies met the eligibility criteria,with a total of 756 preterm infants undergoing either TC(n=366)or SL(n=390).Compared to TC,SL had higher mortality rates(OR=0.32,95%CI:0.16,0.66,I^(2)=0%).No difference was seen in post-procedural complication rate(OR=0.90,95%CI:0.18,4.44,I^(2)=79%),mean duration of post-procedural mechanical ventilation(mD=−2.21 days,95%CI:−4.88,0.47,I^(2)=60%),hospital stay length(mD=−8.30 days,95%CI:−17.03,0.44,I^(2)=0%)or neonatal intensive care unit stay length(mD=−3.50 days,95%CI:−10.27,3.27,I^(2)=0%).Conclusion:Our meta-analysis demonstrated TC as a viable alternative option in managing preterm infants with pPDA in the context of *** the promising trends demonstrated in this meta-analysis,further studies with larger sample size and controlled baseline characteristics are needed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of TC and SL for preterm infants with pPDA.
