Effect of date palm pollen supplementation on female sexual function in non-menopausal women:A double blind randomized clinical trial

Objective:Despite numerous experimental studies in the literature,there are few clinical trials regarding the effect of date palm pollen(DPP)supplementation on sexual function improvement.In the present study,we sought to evaluate the impact of DPP on female sexual function in Iranian non-menopausal women.Methods:Between October 2019 and December 2019,health centers in the city of Khalkhal,volunteers meeting the inclusion criteria were recruited in randomized clinical trials.Sixty-eight women were randomly stratified and assigned to one of the two study groups:placebo group(n=35)and palm pollen group(n=35),and received a starch or palm pollen capsule(300 mg per day),respectively,for 35 d.The Female Sexual Function Index(FSFI)instrument was used to assess female sexual function.Results:After DPP supplementation,the increase in desire,lubrication,and the overall score,was statistically significant compared to the placebo group(P=0.002,P=0.000,and P=0.042;respectively);Whilst there was no significant differences in the remaining domains(arousal:P=0.763;orgasm:P=0.370;satisfaction:P=0.474;pain:P=0.259).There was a statistically significant positive correlation between the coitus and preintervention levels of desire(r=0.298,P=0.038),arousal(r=0.328,P=0.021),lubrication(r=0.361,P=0.011),orgasm(r=0.320,P=0.025),satisfaction(r=0.327,P=0.022),and overall scores(r=0.338,P=0.018).Conclusion:This study suggests that DPP(300 mg supplementation for 35 d),given to non-menopausal women,could improve the lubrication and desire domains of FSFI.

Exergy Analysis of Charge and Discharge Processes of Thermal Energy Storage System with Various Phase Change Materials:A Comprehensive Comparison

Thermal energy storage(TES) is of great importance in solving the mismatch between energy production and consumption.In this regard,choosing type of Phase Change Materials(PCMs) which are widely used to control heat in latent thermal energy storage systems,plays a vital role as a means of TES efficiency.However,this field suffers from lack of a comprehensive investigation on the impact of various PCMs in terms of exergy.To address this issue,in this study,in addition to indicating the melting temperature and latent heat of various PCMs,the exergy destruction and exergy efficiency of each material are estimated and compared with each other.Moreover,in the present work the impact of PCMs mass and ambient temperature on the exergy efficiency is evaluated.The results proved that higher latent heat does not necessarily lead to higher exergy efficiency.Furthermore,to obtain a suitable exergy efficiency,the specific heat capacity and melting temperature of the PCMs must also be considered.According to the results,LiF-CaF_(2)(80.5%:19.5%,mass ratio) mixture led to better performance with satisfactory exergy efficiency(98.84%) and notably lower required mass compared to other PCMs.Additionally,the highest and lowest exergy destruction are belonged to GR25 and LiF-CaF_(2)(80.5:19.5) mixture,respectively.

In the present study,we investigated the synergistic effects of targeted methotrexate-selenium nanostructure containing Myc decoy oligodeoxynucleotides along with X-irradiation exposure as a combination therapy on LNCaP prostate cancer cells.Myc decoy ODNs were designed based on the promoter of Bcl-2 gene and analyzed by molecular docking and molecular dynamics assays.ODNs were loaded on the synthesized Se@BSA@Chi-MTX nanostructure.The physicochemical characteristics of nanostructures were determined by FTIR,DLS,UV-vis,TEM,EDX,in vitro release,and hemolysis tests.Subsequently,the cytotoxicity properties of them with and without X-irradiation were investigated by uptake,MTT,cell cycle,apoptosis,and scratch assays on the LNCaP cell line.The results of DLS and TEM showed negative charge(−9 mV)and nanometer size(40 nm)for Se@BSA@Chi-DEC-MTX NPs,respectively.The results of FTIR,UV-vis,and EDX showed the proper interaction of different parts and the correct synthesis of nanoparticles.The results of hemolysis showed the hemocompatibility of this nanoparticle in concentrations less than 6 mg/mL.The ODNs release from the nanostructures showed a pH-dependent manner,and the release rate was 15%higher in acidic pH.The targeted Se@BSA@Chi-labeled ODN-MTX NPs were efficiently taken up by LNCaP cells by targeting the prostate-specific membrane antigen(PSMA).The significant synergistic effects of nanostructure(containing MTX drug)treatment along with X-irradiation showed cell growth inhibition,apoptosis induction(~57%),cell cycle arrest(G2/M phase),and migration inhibition(up to 90%)compared to the control.The results suggested that the Se@BSA@Chi-DEC-MTX NPs can potentially suppress the cell growth of LNCaP cells.This nanostructure system can be a promising approach for targeted drug delivery and chemoradiotherapy in prostate cancer treatment.

Comparison of posttraumatic growth and posttraumatic stress of nurses with physicians and medical students after caring of COVID‑19 patients

Objectives:The present study compared the prevalence and psychosocial factors affecting posttraumatic growth(PTG),posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD),and psychological distress in nurses,physicians,and medical students.Materials and Methods:In a cross‑sectional study,three groups of medical staff including nurses(n=57),physicians(n=40),and medical students(n=34)who were responsible for the care/treatment of COVID‑19 patients admitted to a general hospital for 4 months responded to Posttraumatic Growth Inventory,Brief Symptom Inventory‑18,Resilience Questionnaire,PTSD Screen,and Social Capital‑Integrated Questionnaire.Results:After the exposure of medical staff to at least 4 months of treatment/care of COVID‑19 patients,PTG prevalence was higher than PTSD(38.2%vs.14.6%),but they experienced some degrees of psychological distress(65.5%).The nurses had 8.33(confidence interval[CI]:2.5–26.7)times higher PTG rate than medical students(P<0.001).Physicists also experienced 5.00(CI:1.4–26.7)times higher PTG than medical students(P<0.001).PTG was aided by age,married status,strong resilience,and high social capital,but gender had no influence.Resilience played an important protective role to prevent the incidence of psychological distress in nurses,medical students,and physicians.Conclusion:Despite the fact that the PTSD and psychological distress were same in the three groups of medical staff,the nurses had a greater rate of PTG than physicians and medical students.

Rutile germanium oxide(rutile GeO_(2)),a semiconductor,can act as a half-metallic compound and is a promising material for spintronic and optoelectronic applications.Calculations were performed using the Korringa–Kohn–Rostoker(KKR)approach and the coherent potential approximation(CPA),which were further combined with two approximations,the local density approximation(LDA)and the self-interaction corrected LDA approximation(LDA-SIC),to study the electronic structure of bulk rutile GeO_(2) doped and co-doped with three transition-metal impurities:Fe,Co,and Ni.The doping value was set to 10%,while the co-doping level was set to 5%for each impurity.The main findings of this work are:(1)a direct ultrawide bandgap of4.80 eV is observed and the rutile GeO_(2) exhibits an N-type semiconducting property.(2)Doped and co-doped GeO_(2) acquire a magnetic behavior and exhibit half-metallicity.(3)The mechanism responsible for these properties is also studied.(4)The critical temperature can reach 334 K when GeO_(2) is doped with Fe,while it rises to 398 K when it is co-doped with Fe and Co.(5)The spin polarization can be improved by co-doping.It can be inferred that rutile GeO_(2) doped or codoped with(Co,Fe)transition metals can be considered to be potential candidates for spintronic and optoelectronic applications.

Assessing the effects of alternative fuel treatments to reduce wildfire exposure

Effective landscape-scale fuel management strategies are essential for reducing wildfire risk in Mediterranean fire-prone areas.In this study,the minimum travel time(MTT)fire-spread algorithm as implemented in FlamMap was applied to assess the potential of alternative fuel treatments for lowering wildfire losses in a 5,740-ha study area in eastern Sardinia,Italy.Twenty-seven wildfires at 10-m resolution were simulated considering three wind speeds(15,18,and 21 km h-1)to compare fuel treatments:no treatment(NT),irrigated agroforestry areas with shrub clearing(T1),prescribed fire in eucalyptus stands(T2),and irrigated grasslands(T3).The simulations replicated a recent large wildfire that occurred in the study area(Orrìwildfire,2019)and considered the weather and fuel moisture conditions associated with this event.The average wildfire exposure outputs(burned area,probability of burning,conditional flame length,potential crown fire occurrence,and surfaces withflame lengths above 2.5 m)decreased after fuel treatments,compared to no treatment.T1 was the most effective strategy in mitigating wildfire hazards and provided the most significant performance for several wildfire exposure indicators.Treating only 0.5%of the study area(~30 ha)resulted in a decrease in all wildfire exposure metrics to~10%within the study area.In addition,the total surface characterized by high flame length(average>2.5 m)was the lowest in the T1 treatment.This study can help land and fire managers optimize fuel treatment opportunities and wildfire risk mitigation strategies in Mediterranean areas.

Combinatorial Algorithms for Reverse Selective Undesirable Center Location Problems on Cycle Graphs

This paper deals with a general variant of the reverse undesirable(obnoxious)center location problem on cycle graphs.Given a‘selective’subset of the vertices of the underlying cycle graph as location of the existing customers,the task is to modify the edge lengths within a given budget such that the minimum of distances between a predetermined undesirable facility location and the customer points is maximized under the perturbed edge lengths.We develop a combinatorial O(n log n)algorithm for the problem with continuous modifications.For the uniform-cost model,we solve this problem in linear time by an improved algorithm.Furthermore,exact solution methods are proposed for the problem with integer modifications.

Improvement of the microstructural features and mechanical properties of advanced high-strength steel DP590 welds

The effects of the welding current mode in resistance spot welding on the microstructure and mechanical properties of advanced high-strength steel dual-phase 590(DP590)sheets were investigated.Results showed that a rough martensitic structure was formed in the weld zone of the sample welded via the single-pulsed mode,whereas the microstructure in the heat-affected zone consisted of a very rough martensitic microstructure and rough ferrite.However,using the secondary pulse mode led to the formation of tempered martensite in the weld zone.The maximum load and the energy absorption to failure of the samples with the secondary pulsed cycle were higher than those of the samples with the single-pulsed mode.Tensile shear results indicated that the secondary pulsed mode could significantly change the mode of failure upon shear tension testing.Therefore,the obtained results suggest that the use of secondary pulsed mode can improve the microstructural feature and mechanical properties of advanced high-strength steel DP590 welds.

Estimation of bedload discharge in sewer pipes with different boundary conditions using an evolutionary algorithm

Sediment transport is a complex phenomenon due to the nonlinearity and uncertainties of the process.The present study applies Gene Expression Programming（GEP） to develop bedload transport models in sewer pipes. In this regard, two types of bedload were considered: loose bed（deposition state） and rigid bed（limit of deposition state）. In order to develop the models, two scenarios with different input combinations were considered: Scenario 1 considers only hydraulic characteristics and Scenario 2 considers both hydraulic and sediment characteristics as inputs for modeling bedload discharge. The results proved the capability of GEP in prediction of sediment transport and it was found that for prediction of bedload transport in sewer pipes Scenario 2 performed more successfully than Scenario 1. According to the outcome of sensitivity analysis, Frm（Modified Froude number） and d50/y（relative particle size） for rigid boundary and Frmfor loose boundary had key roles in the modeling. The outcome of the GEP models also was compared with existing empirical equations and it was found the GEP models yielded better results. It was also found that pipe diameter affected the transport capacity of the sewer pipe. Increasing pipe diameter caused an increase in model efficiency. A pipe with a diameter of 305 mm yielded to the best results.

Tectonic implication of geomorphometric analyses along the Saravan Fault: evidence of a difference in tectonic movements between the Sistan Suture Zone and Makran Mountain Belt

In this paper, remote sensing techniques,as well as field studies, have been used to investigate the geomorphological processes and landscape evolution along the Saravan Fault, SE Iran to highlight how topographic features were influenced by active tectonics. Quantitative geomorphic analysis was carried out using mountain-front sinuosity(Smf),valley floor width-valley height ratio(Vf), drainage basin asymmetry factor(Af), Hypsometric integral(Hi), drainage basin shape index(Bs), mean axial slope of channel(MASC), standard deviation of topography(STD) and index of active tectonic(Iat).Remote sensing techniques, as well as field studies revealed that the Saravan Fault have three parts trending N-S, NW-SE, and E-W. Obtained results show that basins with high Iat index are located at where the strike of the Saravan Faults changes and where several strike-slip faults are crossed the Saravan fault.
