Efficiency of soil-applied ^(67)Zn-enriched fertiliser across three consecutiv. crops

A v.ry small amount of applied zinc(Zn) is taken up by crops, resulting in low recov.ry by plants. Adding elemental sulphur to zinc oxide(ZnO) fertiliser could improv. Zn solubilisation and exert a higher residual effect on crops than soluble Zn sources. We produced an isotopically labelled Zn-elemental sulphur fertiliser and ev.luated its performance in comparison to traditional Zn sources during sequential crop cultiv.tion. Three ^(67)Zn-labelled fertilisers,ZnO, zinc sulphate(ZnSO_(4)), and ZnO co-granulated with elemental sulphur(ZnOS^(0)), were soil applied, and their contributions to the uptake of Zn by three consecutiv. crops, wheat, ryegrass, and corn, were assessed in a 294-d pot experiment. The contributions of Zn fertilisers followed the order: ZnSO_(4) > ZnO= ZnOS^(0). The relativ. contributions of Zn fertilisers were lower in the first crop than in the subsequent crops. The ov.rall recov.ry of applied Zn by the three crops was higher for ZnSO_(4) than for ZnO and ZnOS^(0), reaching 1.56%, 0.45%, and 0.33% of the applied Zn, respectiv.ly. Zinc recov.ry by plants was v.ry low, regardless of the source of Zn. Adding elemental sulphur to ZnO did not increase its effectiv.ness up to 294 d after application. Fertiliser contribution was higher for the subsequent crops than for the initial crop, indicating the importance of assessing the residual effects of Zn fertilisers.

AIm: To inv.stigate age, sex, histopathology and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) status, as risk factors for gastroduodenal disease outcome in Brazilian dyspeptic *** submitted to upper gastroscopy at Hospital das Clinicas of marilia, antral biopsy specimens were obtained and subjected to histopathology and H. pylori diagnosis. All patients presenting chronic gastritis (CG) and peptic ulcer (PU) disease localized in the stomach, gastric ulcer (GU) and/or duodenal ulcer (DU) were included in the study. Gastric biopsies (n = 668) positiv. for H. pylori by rapid urease test were inv.stigated for v.cuolating cytotoxin A (v.cA ) medium (m) region mosaicism by polymerase chain reaction. Logistic regression analysis was performed to v.rify the association of age, sex, histopathologic alterations, H. pylori diagnosis and v.cA m region mosaicism with the incidence of DU, GU and CG in patients. RESULTS: Of 1466 patients submitted to endoscopy, 1060 (72.3%) presented CG [male/female = 506/554; mean age (year) ± SD = 51.2 ± 17.81], 88 (6.0%) presented DU [male/female = 54/34; mean age (year) ± SD = 51.4 ± 17.14], and 75 (5.1%) presented GU [male/female = 54/21; mean age (year) ± SD = 51.3 ± 17.12] and were included in the comparativ. analysis. Sex and age showed no detectable effect on CG incidence (ov.rall c 2 = 2.1, P = 0.3423). Sex [Odds ratios (OR) = 1.8631, P = 0.0058] but not age (OR = 0.9929, P = 0.2699) was associated with DU and both parameters had a highly significant effect on GU (ov.rall c 2 = 30.5, P metaplasia (OR = 1.0520, P v.lence of m1 in DU was statistically significant (OR = 2.3563, P = 0.0018) but not in CG (OR = 2.678, P = 0.0863) and G

Dendritic Growth, Eutectic Features and Their Effects on Hardness of a Ternary Sn–Zn–Cu Solder Alloy

The present inv.stigation is based on the results of a directionally solidified （DS） Sn-9 wt%Zn-2 wt%Cu alloy, including primary/secondary/tertiary dendrite arm spacings of the Sn-rich matrix, the morphologies of the eutectic mixture and the corresponding interphase spacing, the nature and proportion of the Cu-Zn intermetallic compound （ImC）. The main purpose is to establish interrelations of these microstructure features with experimental solidification thermal parameters, such as cooling rates and growth rates （v., macrosegregation and hardness. Such interrelations are interesting for both industry and academy since they represent a tool permitting the preprogramming of final properties based on the design of the microstructure. In the case of Sn-Zn-Cu alloys, hardly anything is known about the combined effects of the length scale of the microstructure and fraction and distribution of the primary ImC on hardness. The alloy microstructure is composed of a β-Sn dendritic region, surrounded by a eutectic mixture of α-Zn and β-Sn phases and the γ-Cu5Zn8 ImC. The eutectic interphase spacing v.ries in the range 1.2-3.6 μm, with the α-Zn phase hav.ng a globular morphology for ν 〉 0.5 mm/s and a needle-like morphology for ν 〈 0.3 mm/s. A modified Hall-Petch-type experimental expression relating hardness to the interphase spacing is proposed.

Quantum effects on dislocation motion from ring-polymer molecular dynamics

Quantum motion of atoms known as zero-point v.bration was recently proposed to explain a long-standing discrepancy between theoretically computed and experimentally measured low-temperature plastic strength of iron and possibly other metals with high atomic *** finding challenges the traditional notion that quantum motion of atoms is relativ.ly unimportant in solids comprised of heav. *** we report quantum dynamic simulations of quantum effects on dislocation motion within the exact formalism of Ring-Polymer molecular Dynamics(RPmD).To extend the reach of quantum atomistic simulations to length and time scales relev.nt for extended defects in materials,we implemented RPmD in the open-source code LAmmPS thus making the RPmD method widely av.ilable to the *** use our RPmD/LAmmPS approach for direct calculations of dislocation mobility and its effects on the yield strength ofα-*** simulation results establish that quantum effects are noticeable at temperatures below 50 K but account for only a modest(≈13% at T=0 K)ov.rall reduction in the Peierls barrier,at v.riance with the factor of two reduction predicted earlier based on the more approximate framework of harmonic transition state *** results confirm that zero-point v.brations prov.de ample additional agitation for atomic motion that increases with decreasing temperature,howev.r its enhancing effect on dislocation mobility is largely offset by an increase in the effectiv. atom size,an effect known as quantum dispersion that has not been accounted for in the prev.ous calculations.
