Acellular Mineralized exoskeleton Shrimp (MeS): A Natural Source of Bioactive Factors for Tissue Regeneration—Preliminary Results

Current challenges in the development of scaffolds for bone regeneration include the engineering of biomaterials that can withstand a natural dynamic physiology on the bone that provides a matrix capable of supporting cell migration and tissue ingrowth. The objective of the present work was to develop and characterize a new biomembrane—Mineralized exoskeleton Shrimp (MeS) developed from the exoskeleton of paleomonetes. The integration of MeS as a biomaterial for tissue regeneration relies on the growing evidence that the shrimp is characterized by a hierarchically arranged chitin fiber structure, mineralized predominately by calcium carbonate and/or calcium phosphate, bringing beneficial effects in bone regeneration. Additionally, the tridimensional MeS structure, can act as a “tent” for Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR). Recently, our team has characterized the MeS biomaterial by in vitro (human osteoblastic cellular cultures and immersion of the membrane in modified synthetic plasma) and in vivo (soft tissue in lab mice and hard tissue in rabbit model). The cellular growth in the MeS membrane was very exuberant in cellular culture with osteoblastic colonization on its surface (histophilic and biocompatible). After the immersion in modified synthetic plasma for one week, a mass mineralization occurred throughout the membrane’s surface (bioactive). The analysis of histological samples from experimental surgery in lab mice showed that the MeS membrane wasn’t toxic to soft tissues and that it caused a moderate inflammatory response (first reabsorption signs at 8 weeks). The MeS could act as a cell-guiding template that contains the necessary cues and adequate three-dimensional set to facilitate cell adhesion and promote tissue regeneration upon implantation and subsequent biodegradation.

Background:Hemodialysis(HD) per se is a risk factor for *** the growing body of evidence on blood-flow restriction(BFR) exercise in HD patients,identification of possible risk factors related to the prothrombotic agent D-dimer is required for the safety and feasibility of this training *** aim of the present study was to identify risk factors associated with higher D-dimer levels and to determine the acute effect of resistance exercise(Re) with BFR on this ***:Two hundred and six HD patients volunteered for this study(all with a glomerular filtration rate of e Re+BFR session consisted of 50% arterial occlusion pressure during 50 min sessions of HD(intradialytic exercise).Re repetitions included concentric and eccentric lifting phases(each lasting 2 s) and were supervised by a strength and conditioning ***:Several variables were associated with elevated levels of D-dimer,including higher blood glucose,citrate use,recent cardiovascular events,recent intercurrents,higher inflammatory status,catheter as vascular access,older patients(>70 years old),and HD ***,Re+BFR significantly increases D-dimer after 4 *** with borderline baseline D-dimer levels(400-490 ng/mL) displayed increased risk of elevating D-dimer over the normal range(≥500 ng/mL).Conclusion:These results identified factors associated with a heightened prothrombotic state and may assist in the screening process for HD patients who wish to undergo Re+BFR.D-dimer and/or other fibrinolysis factors should be assessed at baseline and throughout the protocol as a precautionary measure to maximize safety during Re+BFR.

Influence of variables related to soil weathering on the geomechanical performance of tropical soils

This paper presents an experimental and analytical investigation of the influence of variables related to soil weathering on the geomechanical performance of sand-silt mixtures containing lateritic soils,*** weathered tropical soils with the influence of interparticle *** sand-silt mixtures containing different relative proportions between uniform sand and lateritic soil were produced,and geomechanical soil characterization tests were *** on the results,a transition from a primarily coarse-to a fine-grained prevailing soil structure was found to cause considerable impact on the geomechanical performance of these soils,as evidenced by design variables related to soil mineralogy and size distribution ***,fines contents of both individual soil particles and soil aggregations were found to correlate with experimental results,while the relative proportion between sesquioxides(aluminum,and iron oxides),and silica,***-silica ratios(SSR^(-1)),facilitated estimates concerning changes in geomechanical ***,the application of the sandsilt mixtures containing lateritic soil on soil walls reinforced with polymeric strips was also evaluated,further emphasizing the potential advantages of adopting variables related to soil weathering on design guidelines concerning tropical soils.

Muscle strength and its association with cardiometabolic variables in adolescents:does the expression of muscle strength values matter?

Background We investigate the association between different muscle strength(MS)indices with cardiometabolic variables in *** Cross-sectional study comprising 351 adolescents(male 44.4%,age 16.6±1.0 years)from *** was assessed by handgrip strength and analyzed in live difrerent ways:absolute MS and MS normalized for body weight,body mass index(BMI),height,and fat mass,*** variables investigated as outcomes were systolic and diastolic blood pressure(DBP),waist circumference(WC),high-sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),lipid and glucose metabolism *** linear regression models adjusted for confounding factors were *** Absolute MS and/or MS normalized for height was directly associated with WC[up to 32.8 *** error(Se)=4.7]and DBP(up to 8.8 mmHg,Se=0.8),and inversely associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(up to-8.0 mg/***=14.1).MS normalized for body *** or fat inass was inversely associated with WC(up to-17.5 cm,Se=2.2).According tesex,MS normalized for fat mass was inversely associated with triglycerides(male:0.02 times lower,Se=0.01;female:0.05 times lower,Se=0.01)and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance(male:0.02 times lower,Se=0.01;female:0.06 times ***=0.01).and inversely associated with hs-CRP only among male(0.03 times lower,Se=0.01).Conclusion When normalized for body weight,BMI or fat mass,MS was superior to absolute MS or MS normalized for height in representing adequately cardiometabolic variables among adolescents.

The fi eld of bionanotechnology has been rapidly growing during the last few years and we can now envision a controllable integration between biological and artificial matter,where new biomimetic structures with a wide range of chemical and physical properties will promote the development of a novel generation of medical *** this work we describe a collagen/carbon nanotube composite which has the potential to be used as a scaffold for tissue *** this biocomposite incorporates the advantageous properties of both collagen and carbon nanotubes,it has most of the characteristics that an ideal biomaterial requires in order to be used as an osteoinductive *** biocomposite is bioresorbable and biodegradable and has the desired mechanical rigidity while maintaining a three-dimensional(3-D)nanostructured *** stability and swelling were achieved under fluid environments by varying the amount of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)incorporated into the *** variations can dictate the degree of interaction between fibroblastic cells and the ***-of-concept was shown by performing an in vitro induced mineralization of hydroxylapatite crystals under physiological ***,the ability to attach biofunctional groups to the CNT walls can open a new road for tissue regeneration since the combination of CNTs with specific growth factors or cellular ligands can create an environment capable of signaling and infl uencing specifi c cell *** observations suggest that collagen/carbon nanotube biocomposites will have important uses in a wide range of biotechnological areas.

Objective:To clone,express and purify a putative parasitic nematode specific protein of Setaria digitata(***),filarial nematode that infects livestock and cause significant economic losses in Far east and Asia to he used for structural and functional ***:To characterize uneharacterized gene of,***(SDUG),the herterologous expression of SDUG was carried out in the peT[cloned into peT45b(+)]expression system initially and co-expression of SDUC using chaperoiie plasmids pG-KJe8,pGro 7,pKJe7,pG-Tf2 and pTf16 containing chapcrone proteins of dnaK-dnaJ-grpe-groeS-gro-e,groeS-groeL,dnaK-dnaJ-grpe,groeS-groeL-tig,and tig respectively,was carried out ***:expression of SDUG was seen when escherichia coli strain BI.21(De3)is used,while concentrating protein largely into the insoluble *** co-expression of SDUG using chaperoiie plasmid mediated system indicated a significant increase of the protein in the soluble *** the chaperon plasniid sets,the highest amount of recombinant SDUP in the soluble fraction was seen when pGro7 was used in the presence of2 mg/mL L-arabinosc and 0.6M IPTG concentration in the culture medium and for 3 h of incubation at the temperature of 28℃.Recombinant SDUG was purified both from soluble and insoluble fractions using Ni affinity ***-PAGe and western blot analyses of these proteins revealed a single band having expected size of^24 ***:SDUG seems to be more aggregate-prone and hydrophobic in nature and such protein can make soluble by correct selecting the inducer concentrations and induction temperature and its duration.

Chemical speciation of copper and manganese in solution of a copper-contaminated soil and young grapevine growth with amendment application

Lameness prediction in broiler chicken using a machine learning technique

Broiler flock welfare is usually assessed through mortality,physiology,behavior,and walk-ing *** possibility of assessing broiler chicken lameness using the bird walking abil-ity was investigated using the machine learning approach for the first *** on broiler walking speed and acceleration,genetic strain,and sex were recorded and input in a *** were classified according to the 6-point gait score(GS0 is a sound bird,and GS5 is a severely lame bird).Decision trees were built initially using all *** confusion matrix of each developed model was *** pruning technique was used,removing from the dataset the variables that did not infer in the classification *** reorganized the dataset and re-arranged the data by grouping the intermediate target class of gait score using the Borda Count ***-processing data,we obtained a new set of decision *** the 3-point gait score(GS0 is a sound bird,and GS2 is a lame bird),we obtained a new model with better accuracy(78%);however,the model had a lower accuracy for classifying lame broilers(GS2,5%).The final decision tree was selected for classifying broilers,either sound or lame,according to their walking *** developed model presented good accuracy(91%),and it ordered properly sound(86%)and lame birds(92%).The novel model might be used to assess broiler lameness on-farm by registering the bird displacement *** developments using the model might allow flock lameness detection automatically.
