In elastic.networking. the WDM fixed frequenc. g.id is replac.d by a more flexible struc.ure, in whic. the spec.rum is org.nized in frequenc. slots, and eac. traffic.flow is assig.ed to an appropriate set of c.ntig.ous slots. The c.assic.l RWA (routing.and waveleng.h assig.ment) problem is then replac.d by the RSA (routing.and spec.rum assig.ment) problem. In this paper, we disc.ss the SA (spec.rum assig.ment) problem in a sing.e link, where it is not c.upled to the routing.problem, thus allowing.for a better understanding.of its dynamic.. The best SA alg.rithm, taken as anyone who minimizes the averag. time it takes to provide total exhaustion of the initial available spec.rum under inc.emental traffic. is shown to be a func.ion of the traffic.profile. It is shown that the g.eedy alg.rithm, whic. is unaware of the traffic.profile, may impose severe performanc. penalties if the request rates inc.ease with the number of requested slots. However, no penalty is inc.rred by more friendly profiles, like the uniform one.

The implantation of sweet sorg.um has been shown as viable alternative in c.op rotation in sug.r c.ne plantation reform areas. The seed environment in the field is c.mplex and several fac.ors, suc. as different g.notypes and osmotic.stress, c.n neg.tively influenc. the seeds water uptake and, therefore, the sequenc. of g.rmination events c.n be c.mpromised. In this c.ntext, the objec.ive of this study was to evaluate the different physiolog.c.l responses of sweet sorg.um seeds (Sorg.um bic.lor (L.) Moenc.) belong.ng.to the hybrids c. 007 and c. 147 and c.ltivar BRS 506 when submitted to substrates with different water potentials (-0.1, -0.2, -0.3, -0.4, and -0.5 MPa) using.solutions of polyethylene g.yc.l (PEg.6000). The seeds remained in Bioc.emic.l Oxyg.n Demand-type g.rmination c.ambers, under c.nstant white lig.t and the temperature of 25°c.for 14 h in the hig. temperature and 10 h in the low temperature. The moisture of the substrates was reg.larly monitored. The physiolog.c.l potential of the g.notypes was evaluated using.the following.c.arac.eristic.: first c.unt, g.rmination, g.rmination speed index (g.I), root leng.h, and fresh and dry weig.ts of seedling.. In g.neral, g.rmination and early g.owth of seedling. were neg.tively affec.ed by the reduc.ion of water potentials below -0.1 MPa, whic. was also damag.ng.to the g.I of the seeds. g.rmination and g.owth of seedling. of the hybrids c. 007 and c. 147 and of the c.ltivar BRS 506 were affec.ed by reduc.d water potentials starting.at -0.1 MPa. The seeds of hybrid c. 147 were more tolerant to simulated water stress with PEg.6000 than those of hybrid c. 007 and c.ltivar BRS 506.

Thyroid nodules are a major health problem worldwide. The prevalenc. of palpable thyroid nodules in the g.neral population is approximately 5% in women and 1% in men living.in parts of the world with suffic.ent iodine. Hig. resolution nec. and thyroid ultrasound c.n detec. thyroid nodules in a sig.ific.nt proportion of randomly selec.ed individuals, with hig.er frequenc.es in women and the elderly population. The importanc. of thyroid nodules lies in the need to rule out c.nc.r. The majority of thyroid nodules are benig., c.inic.lly irrelevant, and c.n be safely manag.d with a g.od surveillanc. prog.am. The detec.ion and diag.osis of differentiated thyroid c.nc.r have evolved over the years with inc.eased use of hig. resolution c.rvic.l and thyroid ultrasound, fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), molec.lar testing. and thyrog.obulin as a serum tumor marker. An alg.rithm that utilizes hig. resolution ultrasound and, when indic.ted, FNAB, and molec.lar testing.for the diag.osis of thyroid nodules, fac.litates a personalized, risk-based protoc.l that promotes hig.-quality c.re and minimizes c.st and unnec.ssary testing. Our paper reviews the c.rrent, evidenc.-based manag.ment of newly diag.osed thyroid nodules.

The objec.ive of this study was to evaluate the differenc.s in c.mposition among.six brands of c.nventional soybean and six g.netic.lly modified c.ltivars (g.). We foc.sed on the isoflavones profile and mineral c.ntent questioning.the substantial equivalenc. between c.nventional and g. org.nisms. The statement of c.mplianc. label for c.nventional g.ains was verified for the presenc. of g.netic.modified g.nes by real time polymerase c.ain reac.ion (Pc.). We did not detec. the presenc. of the 35S promoter in c.mmerc.al samples, indic.ting.the absenc. of transg.ne insertion. For mineral analysis, we used the method of induc.ively c.upled plasma-optic.l emission spec.rometry (Ic.-OES). Isoflavones quantific.tion was performed by hig. performanc. liquid c.romatog.aphy (HPLc.. The results showed no statistic.l differenc. between the c.nventional and transg.nic.soybean g.oups c.nc.rning.isoflavone c.ntent and mineral c.mposition. The c.nc.ntration of potassium, the main mineral c.mponent of soy, was the hig.est in c.nventional soybeans c.mpared to that in g. soy, while g. samples presented the hig.est c.nc.ntrations of iron.

Mammary neoplasms are the most c.mmon tumors in female dog.. They are usually treated using.solely surg.c.l mastec.omy—whic. is rec.g.ized as unsatisfac.ory in many c.ses. g.ven this, the benefits of c.emotherapy in dog. with mammary c.nc.r need to be further explored. Some drug. that c.n be used for treating.c.nines with mammary tumors may be substrates of uptake and/or efflux transporters suc. as the ATP-binding.c.ssette (ABc. transporters. Unfortunately, very little is known reg.rding.the pathobiolog. of suc. proteins in c.nine tumors, inc.uding.mammary c.nc.r. Ac.ording.y, this study was desig.ed to c.arac.erize the expression of ABc.transporters P-g.yc.protein, MRP1, and MRP2 and their relation with c.inic.patholog.c.fac.ors in order to allow a better understanding.of their influenc. in c.nine mammary c.nc.r. P-g.yc.protein was expressed in tumors from 55.8% of patients, while MRP1 and MRP2 were expressed in 37.2% and 39.5% of tumors, respec.ively. P-g.yc.protein expression showed to be related with reg.onal lymph node spread (P = 0.0038), as well as with tumor g.ade (P = 0.0353) and with a shorter survival (P = 0.0245). MRP1 revealed a strong.assoc.ation with a hig.er histolog.c.l g.ade (P g.ostic.indic.tor independent of lymph node status using.c.x proportional-hazards reg.ession multivariate analysis (P = 0.0216). No relations between MRP2 and c.inic.patholog.c.features were observed. We have found that P-g.yc.protein and MRP1 are expressed in hig.ly ag.ressive c.nine mammary tumors and are related with poor prog.osis. Our results sug.est that they may play a sig.ific.nt role in the c.urse of c.nine mammary c.nc.r prog.ession and be promising.c.ndidate markers for a validation study on therapy outc.me.

Thyroid tumors inc.ude those that orig.nate from follic.lar c.lls and those that arise from parafollic.lar c.lls (c.c.lls). Differentiated thyroid c.nc.r, whic. orig.nates from follic.lar c.lls, inc.udes papillary c.rc.noma, follic.lar c.rc.noma, onc.c.tic.c.ll c.rc.noma (Hürthle), poorly differentiated c.rc.noma, and anaplastic.c.rc.noma. The inc.denc. of thyroid c.nc.r has been inc.easing.sig.ific.ntly, with an estimated inc.denc. in the United States of Americ. of 53,990 c.ses by the year 2018. This neoplasm is listed as the most c.mmon endoc.ine tumor and represents approximately 3% of all malig.ant tumors in humans, with 75% of c.ses oc.urring.in women, and two-thirds of c.ses oc.urring.in people under 55 years. The inc.ease in the prevalenc./inc.denc. of low-risk thyroid c.nc.r over the last 10 to 20 years has required a re-appraisal of the standard one-size-fits-all approac. to differentiated thyroid c.nc.r. This adaptation to a more individualized manag.ment of the patient with thyroid c.nc.r has led to a muc. more risk-adapted approac. to the diag.osis, initial therapy, adjuvant therapy, and follow-up of patients with differentiated thyroid c.nc.r. This paper with review the c.rrent understanding.of the c.inic.l presentation, diag.ostic.workup, and manag.ment of thyroid c.nc.r c.ntered on evidenc.-based and personalized medic.ne.
