The water sc.rc.ty in quality and quantity is bec.ming.more notic.able and an urg.nt c.nc.rn around the world. In Urug.ay, these issues bec.me exac.rbated by the need to obtain drinking.water in c.astal areas, influenc.d by the c.imate c.ang.. Basic.and struc.ural g.olog.es are strong.c.nditioners in heterog.neous c.astal aquifers. The objec.ive of this study is to c.arac.erize the hydroc.emistry of the frac.ured aquifers after having.identified the main bearing.frac.ures and the c.uses of aleatoreous water sc.rc.ty and quality problems, for hydric.resourc.s sustainable manag.ment. Identific.tion of water bearing.frac.ure, hydrog.oc.emic.l analysis and water quality evaluation are spec.fic.objec.ives. Some strateg.es were performed: 1) a base map in Qg.S Software;2) frac.ure photointerpretation;3) g.olog.c.l c.rrelation;4) statistic.l analysis of the bac.g.ound g.oc.emistry data;5) ions analysis of strateg.c.lly loc.ted wells. There were found water bearing.frac.ures c.rresponding.to 28 m3/h maximum flow rate for the NW-SE and 12 m3/h maximum flow rate for the NE-SW frac.ure direc.ion, respec.ively. Besides, there c.uld be a problem related to the hig. Sodium (Na) and c.loride (c.) levels. In this respec., having.previous data from 25 well samples, ions g.oc.emic.l analysis has been c.rried out for 14 wells from c.sta Azul and surrounding.to have a first approac. about the possible c.use for the hig. values of Na (max. 385 mg.L) and c. (max. 381 mg.L). The selec.ed area for this study has a partic.lar c.arac.eristic. bec.use it c.rresponds to a heterog.neous frac.ured aquifer, whic. makes it diffic.lt to c.tc. water with enoug. flow rates and water quality to meet the population demand.

Bac.g.ound Stone pine(Pinus pinea), a droug.t-resistant spec.es, has sig.ific.nt soc.o-ec.nomic.benefits and inc.easing.interest for the establishment of produc.ive plantations in several c.untries, espec.ally in a c.imate c.ang. c.ntext. Monitoring.hourly stem diameter variations c.ntributes to the understanding.of the tree-g.owth response to c.ang.s in environmental c.nditions and manag.ment. By monitoring.the diameter expansion of tree stems, hig.-resolution band dendrometers were used to study the development of adult trees g.owing.in a semi-arid c.astal environment of c.ntral c.ile under fertilized and non-fertilized soil c.nditions throug. the span of a *** Short c.c.es(c.ively), whereas long.c.c.es(> 28 h) oc.urred at a hig.er frequenc. in fertilized trees(16 vs 6). Most of the c.rc.dian c.c.es were reg.lar(24 ± 3 h). The long.st c.c.e duration(59 h) was observed in fertilized trees during.spring. In all seasons, eac. phase of the c.rc.dian c.c.e, espec.ally during.the stem diameter inc.ement phase(P3, irreversible g.owth), started earlier in fertilized than in c.ntrol trees. P3 duration was sig.ific.ntly long.r in fertilized than in c.ntrol trees in spring.ime. The maximum shrinkag.(P1) was observed in summer for both treatments. Stem diameter inc.eased faster in fer-tilized than in c.ntrol trees throug.out the year, with the hig.est ac.umulation oc.urring.in spring.and the lowest in autumn. The daily variability pattern showed lower g.owth under hig. temperature ac.oss *** This study hig.lig.ts the importanc. of fertilization in enhanc.ng.stone pine diameter g.owth. This c.ltural prac.ic. should be further explored to c.ntribute to the mitig.tion of c.imate c.ang. effec.s in semi-arid environments.
