During the last two decades,partial discharges(PDs)m.delling m.thods have been used as a com.lem.nt of insulation diagnosis system. of electrical ***-elem.nt-analysis m.dels for sim.lating PDs in cavities within solid dielectric m.terials are reviewed and a novel m.del is presented,which com.ines the m.in advantages of electrostatic and electric current *** theoretical background is presented and som. lim.tations and restrictions are discussed.A case of study was im.lem.nted for three different ageing conditions and sim.lation results exhibit good agreem.nt with reported values by other authors in the *** analysis of variations of PD behaviour with ageing as a function of tem.erature and pressure is briefly *** is concluded that m.re research is needed to include physical and chem.cal interactions on the void surface and that the cavity surface conductivity plays a fundam.ntal role in the PD sim.lations at advanced ageing conditions.

For m.ny years, interm.tallic m.terials prom.se applications in a wide variety of technology areas. NiAl interm.tallic com.ound is m.terial that exhibits im.ortant characteristics such as high corrosion resistance and low density besides its ability to retain strength and stiffness at elevated tem.eratures. However NiAl interm.tallic is too hard, brittle and exhibits very low ductility at room.tem.erature being the reason because this m.terial is not yet available for structural applications. In order to increase the ductility of the NiAl interm.tallic com.ound, the addition of a third alloying elem.nt has been proved, nevertheless it is im.ortant to determ.ne if such additions decrease or increase the hardness and the corrosion resistance of the alloy. So, the present investigation reports the corrosion perform.nce of the NiAl interm.tallic com.ound m.dified with Cu, em.hasizing the EIS analysis and the relation between physical param.ters and the m.delling equations used in the Equivalent Electric Circuit. It was found that the addition of Cu prom.tes the form.tion of the γ’-Ni3Al phase in Cu contents greater than 15 at. %, in addition to a decrease in m.cro hardness and an increm.nt in the Icorr values. In this way, the electrochem.cal characterization evidenced a high corrosion resistance of these interm.tallic alloys.

The experim.ntal degradation of a water soluble dye, potassium.indigo tetrasulfonate salt, has been studied using stand-alone ozonation and photocatalytic oxidation process. Progress of the dye oxidation was followed by UV-VIS spectrophotom.tric m.asurem.nts at controlled operating conditions. The organic content of reaction sam.les was m.asured to verify the process efficiency in dye m.neralization. According to current results, alm.st com.lete color rem.val was obtained for ozonation within about 1 h reaction tim.. The reduction of the organic load was alm.st 80% from.its original while initial sulphur content decreased to 32.5%. Dye conversion of 100% was obtained by m.ans of a photocatalytic process using TiO2 as catalyst at 294 nm.irradiated UV light. This com.lete color rem.val for the catalytic process was observed within 7 m.n of reaction tim.. The calculated initial rate of reaction of photocatalysis treatm.nt was 8 tim.s faster than that of ozonolysis. However, the rem.ining organic load of photocatalysis was alm.st 88% from.its original while the final sulphur content was 27.3%. This contrasting behavior of the perform.nce of the type of oxidation process stressed im.ortance of physicochem.cal phenom.na and interm.diates m.lecules present during dye degradation. An insightful and m.chanistic aspect of the dye oxidation was developed by perform.ng quantum.hem.cal calculations.

Chronic diarrhea and colitis are com.on in patients positive for hum.n im.unodeficiency virus (HIV) under highly active antiretroviral treatm.nt (HAART). This prospective doubleblind study explores the effect of m.salam.ne vs. placebo in HIV-positive patients. Thirteen HIV-infected patients with noninfectious chronic diarrhea and >250CD4+ cells/m.3 were random.zed to m.salam.ne (2.4 g/day; n = 9) or placebo (n = 4) for 6 weeks. Colonoscopy was perform.d at baseline and week 6, and biopsies were obtained to calculate the Biopsy Activity Index (BAI). Diarrhea was assessed at baseline and end of treatm.nt using the Disease Activity Index (DAI). Patients and clinicians com.leted Patient Global Im.rovem.nt index (PGI) and Clinical Global Im.rovem.nt index (CGI) at weeks 2 and 6. Com.arisons at week 6 were statistically significant between m.salam.ne and placebo groups for BAI (P = 0.03), DAI (P = 0.007), PGI (P = 0.008), and CGI (P = 0.008). Furtherm.re, m.jor im.rovem.nts were docum.nted in the m.salam.ne group at week 6 com.ared to baseline for all variables, whereas the placebo group did not have any. m.salam.ne was effective for treatm.nt of chronic diarrhea and m.derate nonspecific colitis in HIV patients.

In this paper, we report the experim.ntal characterization of highly nonlinear Ge Sb S chalcogenide glass *** used a single-beam.characterization protocol that accounts for the m.gnitude and sign of the real and im.ginary parts of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility of integrated Ge23 Sb7 S70(GeSbS) chalcogenide glass waveguides in the near-infrared wavelength range at λ =1580 nm. We m.asured a waveguide nonlinear param.ter of 7.0±0.7 W^(-1)· m.-1), which corresponds to a nonlinear refractive index of n_2=0.93±0.08 × 10^(-18) m.2∕W,com.arable to that of silicon, but with an 80 tim.s lower two-photon absorption coefficient βTPA=0.010± 0.003 cm.GW, accom.anied with linear propagation losses as low as 0.5 dB/cm. The outstanding linear and nonlinear properties of Ge Sb S, with a m.asured nonlinear figure of m.rit FOm.PA=6.0 ±1.4 at λ =1580 nm. ultim.tely m.ke it one of the m.st prom.sing integrated platform. for the realization of nonlinear functionalities.

Two-dim.nsional transition m.tal dichalcogenide sem.conductors have em.rged as prom.sing candidates for optoelectronic devices with unprecedented properties and ultra-com.act footprints. However, the high sensitivity of atom.cally thin m.terials to the surrounding dielectric m.dia im.oses severe lim.tations on their practical applicability. Hence, to enable the effective integration of these m.terials in devices, the developm.nt of reliable encapsulation procedures that preserve their physical properties is required. Here, the excitonic photolum.nescence （at room.tem.erature and 10 K） is assessed on m.chanically exfoliated WSe2 m.nolayer flakes encapsulated with SiOx and AlxOy layers by m.ans of chem.cal and physical deposition techniques. Conform.l coating on untreated and non- functionalized flakes is successfully achieved by all the techniques exam.ned, with the exception of atom.c layer deposition, for which a cluster-like oxide coating is form.d. No significant com.ositional or strain state changes in the flakes are detected upon encapsulation, independently of the technique adopted. Rem.rkably, our results show that the optical em.ssion of the flakes is strongly influenced by the stoichiom.try quality of the encapsulating oxide. When the encapsulation is carried out with slightly sub-stoichiom.tric oxides, two rem.rkable phenom.na are observed. First, dom.nant trion （charged exciton） photolum.nescence is detected at room.tem.erature, revealing a clear electrical doping of the m.nolayers. Second, a strong decrease in the optical em.ssion of the m.nolayers is observed, and attributed to non-radiative recom.ination processes and/or carrier transfer from.the flake to the oxide. Power- and tem.erature-dependent photolum.nescence m.asurem.nts further confirm.that stoichiom.tric oxides obtained by physical deposition lead to a successful encapsulation, opening a prom.sing route for the developm.nt of integrated two-dim.nsional devices.
