Fatty liver has been present in the lives of patients and physicians for almost two *** knowledge has been generated regarding its etiology and consequences,although a long path seeking novel and innovative diagnostic biomarkers for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)is still *** the one hand,proteomics and lipidomics have emerged as potential noninvasive resources for NAFLD *** contrast,metabolomics has been able to distinguish between NAFLD and NASH,even detecting degrees of *** the other hand,genetic and epigenetic markers have been useful in monitoring disease progression,eventually functioning as target *** markers involved in immune dysregulation,oxidative stress,and inflammation are involved in the instauration and evolution of the ***,the fascinating gut microbiome is significantly involved in NAFLD and *** review presents state-of-the-art biomarkers related to NAFLD and NASH and new promises that could eventually be positioned as diagnostic resources for this *** is evident,despite great advances in studying these biomarkers,there is still a long path before they translate into clinical benefits.

Fluorometric Viability Assessment of Capacitated and Acrosome-Reacted Boar Spermatozoa by Flow Cytometry

Sperm capacitation involves functional changes, such as the removal or appearance of specific molecules and changes in the plasma membrane;the acrosome reaction (AR) is an exocytotic event induced by calcium influx, enabling the spermatozoa to penetrate the zona pellucida. These processes can be achieved only if the spermatozoa have good viability;indeed, determination of sperm viability is used for the assessment of semen quality. Membrane integrity and mitochondrial activity are important viability parameters of spermatozoa and fluorescent techniques based on membrane permeability to dyes have been developed to determine these parameters. The aim of this work was to determine the viability of boar sperm (fresh, one hour of capacitation induction and 20 min of AR induction) by flow cytometry using propidium iodide (PI) (1.25 μg/mL) and rhodamine 123 (R123) (0.20 μg/mL). Aliquots of 5 × 105 sperm were incubated with each fluorochrome separately and simultaneously for 10 or 20 min, respectively, at 38℃. The proportion of labeled spermatozoa and their fluorescence intensities were measured using a flow cytometer. The fluorescence index (FI) with PI gradually increased during the incubation and we found significant differences between all the groups. With R123, the FI increased in the capacitated sperm but decreased in the acrosome-reacted sperm, with significant differences between the fresh and capacitated spermatozoa. Our results suggest that the increase in the R123 fluorescence intensity in capacitated spermatozoa is due to changes in the mitochondrial membrane activity because the spermatozoa experienced changes in membrane fluidity and flagellar activation during capacitation. The use of fluorochromes and flow cytometry is a good tool for monitoring many markers of sperm function. Although capacitation and AR processes have been well studied, there is still much information to be elucidated with regard to these complex processes.

Cerebrolysin Effects on Cardiac Neuropathy in Diabetic Rats

Autonomic innervation of heart is abnormal in diabetes and produces altered cardiovascular parameters. Cerebrolysin is a neurotrophic factor that improves the dendritic tree and synapses in the central nerve system after brain damage. The aim of this study was to evaluate if cerebrolysin can improve the cardiac neuropathy generated in diabetic rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats two months old were injected with streptozotocin (70 mg/Kg/, ip). Hyperglycemia and altered cardiac rate were confirmed after eight weeks of STZ injection, and cerebrolysin treatment was started in control and diabetic rats for two months (1 ml/kg/day, ip). Body weight, heart rate, heart rate variability, arterial blood pressure, and blood glucose levels were measured. Also heart weight and levels of nitrites, NGF and VEGF were measured in left ventricle homogenates. The results show that body weight was reduced and blood glucose levels were increased significantly in diabetic rats. Cerebrolysin treatment produced no significant changes in body weight either in blood glucose level in control and diabetic rats. Cerebrolysin treatment in diabetic rats shows an improvement in the altered basal cardiac rate (306 ± 6.5 lat/min) compared to diabetic saline group (272 ± 8.9 lat/min: P < 0.05), without changes in control rats. Levels of nitrites, VEGF, and NGF in the left ventricle increased in diabetic cerebrolysin treated rats. In conclusion, the results show that cerebrolysin improves some abnormalities observed in the diabetic cardiac neuropathy in rats and suggest that could be considered an additional treatment to prevent or reduce the cardiac autonomic alterations generated in diabetes.

Dear Editor,Although penile lesions tend to be attributed to sexually transmitted diseases in sexually active patients,there are various inflammatory skin diseases that can occur in this area.1 Among them,psoriasis is one of the most frequent,being the most common or third most common according to some studies,making it a potential reason for consulting an andrologist.2,3 It can become a disease that impacts the quality of life and sexual function.

Satisfaction of the Service Provider with the Organization of the Timely Cervical Cancer Detection Program

Cervical cancer is a priority health problem in Mexico. The objective of this work was to know the degree of satisfaction of the service provider with the organization of the program of Timely Detection of Cervical Cancer, specifically in taking of the cervical cytology. The study design was observational, transversal and prospective conducted from January to May 2015 in Jurisdiction 1 of the Health Services of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, in 20 health centers. Participants were 87 service providers whose function is to take cervical cytology (Pap smears). A 32-question questionnaire was applied, with Likert scale with 5 levels of response: 1 (dissatisfied), 2 (little satisfied), 3 (indifferent), 4 (satisfied) and 5 (very satisfied). The score range was 32 points (minimum job satisfaction) up to 160 points (Maximum job satisfaction). We analyzed 2 dimensions: 1) intrinsic factors that have to do with motivation and professional recognition, and 2) extrinsic factors related to infrastructure, materials, remuneration and labor policies. Each factor consisted of four categories. Descriptive statistics and linear correlation of Pearson were applied for the analysis of data. Participants signed an informed consent letter. Of 4 categories, in the intrinsic dimension, the one with the highest percentage of satisfaction was “delegation of activities” with 28.8%. In the extrinsic dimension, the category with the highest percentage of satisfaction was “infrastructure and materials” with 49.4%;while satisfaction increase in intrinsic dimensions also does in extrinsic dimensions, such correlations are significant (p < 0.05), except between delegation of activities and remuneration (r = 0.074 and p = 0.497). The higher hierarchical level, the men, the bachelor academic level and older people showed the highest level of satisfaction.

Osmotic Regulation and Viability during Storage of Potato Microtubers Obtained in Vitro

Dehydration,viability,proline,sucrose and glucose concentrations were evaluated on green and white microtubers during storage at two different *** 10 months at 4℃,the green and white microtubers showed shrinkage with a dry weight loss of 3.91%and 3.15%.Both,the green and white microtubers at 4℃ presented an enhanced sprouting after *** 23℃,the green microtubers lost the lowest quantity in dry weight(0.8%)and white microtubers lost 2.2%.This behavior is possibly related to the increase in the thickness of the peridermis observed in green microtubers or to the osmotic regulation mediated principally by the observed concentrations of proline and glucose but not *** best storage conditions for potato microtubers obtained in vitro were at 4℃ for green or white microtubers for up to 10 months with little loss of viability.

Expressions of＂Conviviality＂ in Everyday Life From a Communal Praxis

The paper presents a preview of the results of the project "Community Violence Prevention" conducted in an awareness phase in three urban neighborhoods of the city of Durango, Durango, and Mexico from August to December 2011, involving children, adolescents, and women. The aim was to promote cordial neighborly relations through the coexistence of these population groups, taking as a meeting point the different workshops within the project implemented to counter expressions of violence in everyday life practices of these people. This exercise is part of an institutional project intervention named Social Praxis and Sociocultural Identity Processes, carried out by the Faculty of Psychology and Therapy of Human Communication of the UJED (Universidad Juarez del Estado de Durango) in different contexts of the state capital city since 2007, working along with federal, state, and municipal government agencies. The proposed project intervention works generating environments that promotes a healthy and wellbeing in the quality of life of the population (Rozas, 1998), promoting the growth of participants for its reconstruction as people and social subjects through processes of self-reflection, formation, and/or redefinition of psychosocial support networks among the settlers themselves who participate in the workshops.
