Happiness is the ultimate goal for every living human being, and this condition motivates people to stay active and want to be alive. Having this feeling also fosters the proactivity of citizens. The opposite is depression, a condition capable of significantly affecting a person’s behavior or perception. HoD Detector is a low-cost, easy to use application that aids in the diagnosis of a depressive disorder and motivates the user to seek professional help. The purpose of this study is to propose a way to measure happiness through the measurement of depression;to develop HoD Detector, evaluate the accuracy and usability of this application (with university students) for future enhancements of the system. The development of this application involved basic algorithms and the use of a database to successfully make a diagnosis and store the results of each user for further reference. The application is capable of giving a proper diagnosis with the time interval of 2 - 5 minutes. HoD Detector has the potential to become an extremely useful tool to diagnose depression and motivate users to seek professional help not only in Mexico, but also on an international scale for improving in people’s happiness condition.

Luminescent materials for application in temperature sensing have caught a lot of interest in recent *** erbium(Er3+)-doped fluoride-based materials（EFM）,which are readily accessible by near-infrared（NIR） excitation to produce efficient photon *** has been established that ytterbium(Yb3+) may improve the performance of EFMs in both bulk and nanostructured forms by energy transfer channels among rare-earth ions in interstitial *** this work,a comprehensive analysis of the Er3+:Yb3+:CaF2crystalline structure,photoluminescence,and energy transfer from Yb3+to Er3+is presented for powders prepared by combustion *** Er3+:Yb3+:CaF2powders display exceptional photon down-shift and up-conversion when exposed to NIR light（λ=975 nm）.The luminescence spectral change of the NIR emission around 1.5 μm,which corresponds to the Er3+electronic transition4I13/2→4I15/2,was investigated in a temperature range of 298-423 K for application in temperature sensing of biological systems exploring the third biological *** luminescence intensity ratio technique was applied to the thermally coupled Stark sublevels of states4I13/2and4I15/2with the highest estimated temperature relative sensitivity being around 0.4 %/K at 298 K.

The central region of Argentina is known to be a source of some most extreme weather events in the world, which are partially associated with the passage of cold fronts accompanied often by extreme wind gusts. This may cause severe property damage and even loss of human life. Nevertheless, there is a lack of studies that evaluate the performance of the numerical weather prediction(NWP) models such as weather research and forecasting(WRF) model in anticipating this type of weather in the region. This study compares the performance of the operational WRF in Argentina using four combinations of various planetary boundary layer(PBL) and microphysics parameterization schemes under varied lead times in predicting an extreme wind event(gusts > 30 m s-1) in Central Argentina. The results demonstrate that the WRF model is capable of providing an acceptable prediction of wind speed during an extreme event. It is found that no single combination outperforms the others, although there is a slight tendency for Combination A, which utilizes the Mellor–Yamada–Janjic(MYJ) parameterization for the PBL and the Eta similarity parameterization for the surface layer, to more accurately capture the extreme wind speed. Compared with wind gust observations at five weather stations, the wind gust parameterization predicted the intensity and occurrence time of the peak wind, with an acceptable bias(time of peak of grid configurations(resolutions of 4 vs9/3/1 km) revealed that higher resolution does not imply an improvement in the wind gust forecast for this particular event. With regard to lead time, a shorter lead time does not necessarily result in more accurate forecasts. Nevertheless, it is beneficial to conduct multiple sensitivity runs in order to obtain and understand the dispersion of forecasted wind speeds.

Pecan nut (Carya illinoinensis) processing to obtain oil generates circa 37% of press cake, which is currently underuti-lized and primarily employed as animal feed. Due to its nutritional- and bioactive-rich composition, pecan nut cake (PNC) can be used as raw material for plant-based beverages, whose properties may be enhanced using a non-ther-mal technology based on block freeze concentration (BFC). The effect of five-stage BFC on total solids content (TSC), pH, color parameters, retention of phytochemicals, and the antioxidant activity (AA) of a pecan nut cake beverage (PNB) was assessed in this work. BFC afforded 98% (w/w) solids retention after three stages and 85% efficiency after four stages. The process also provided a 254% concentration factor in stage 5. In the last step, approximately a 64% increase in TSC and a slight decrease (7.3%) in pH compared to the control PNB was observed. In addition, total phenolic compounds, condensed tannins, total flavonols, and AA were significantly (P oved after the BFC, resulting in a 2.6-10.2- and 1.9-5.8-fold increase in phytochemicals and antioxidants, respectively. on the other hand, BFC caused the darkening of concentrates due to TSC and bioactive compounds retention. The processing strategy evaluated herein indicated a great potential of PNC as a raw material for obtaining high-quality ingredients for the food industry, which may reduce agro-industrial waste production and add value to a coproduct rich in nutrients and biocompounds with potential biological activity.

The earliest stages of plant succession on severely disturbed sites usually follow highly unpredictable trajectories. However, in the Popocatépetl volcano area(50 km SE of Mexico City),the development of physiognomically distinct primary plant communities suggests the occurrence of various successional trajectories only 10 years after the onset of colonization of a temperate forest on lahars. To characterize plant communities and determine the environmental factors that drive the differences observed between plant communities and their successional trajectories, we monitored 64 circular sample plots(3.14 m2) from 2002 to 2011. We examined the plant communities' composition and structure in terms of their species richness and abundance, plant cover, and maximum stem height,and recorded 13 environmental factors related to the volcanic deposit characteristics, microclimate, soil,flow dynamics and gravitational processes. A cluster analysis of the species abundance data showed that,by 2011, six plant community types(CT's) had established, including grasslands, and open, dense and very dense shrub lands. As these communities developed over the same period of time and within the same overall ecosystem, then these plant community types were interpreted as different stages of the same successional trajectory. Two sequential main stages that drive regeneration were identified from this successional trajectory: a) the first four years are characterized by a steady increase in species richness and physiognomic development(plant size and coverage), mostly dominated by Baccharis conferta, Eupatorium glabratum and Senecio barbajohannis; b) from the sixth year onwards, a continued increase in the abundance of those same species led to the development of the dense shrubland *** in the availability of soil resources and disturbances linked to recent lahar flows were the main factors accounting for such differences.
