Insight into the origin of process-related properties like small-scale inhomogeneities is key for material ***,we analyze DFT calculations of randomly doped HfO_(2) structures with Si,La,and VO and relate them to the kind of production *** energies of the relevant ferroelectric Pbc2_(1) phase are compared with the competing crystallographic phases under the influence of the arising local inhomogeneities in a coarse-grained *** interaction among dopants adds to the statistical effect from the random positioning of the *** anneals after atomic layer or chemical solution deposition processes,which are short compared to ceramic process tempering,the large energy variations remain because the dopants do not *** the energy difference is the criterion for the phase stability,the large variation suggests the possibility of nanoregions and diffuse phase transitions because these local doping effects may move the system over the paraelectric-ferroelectric phase boundary.

Highly unusual amounts of rainfall were seen in the 2020 summer in many parts of China,Japan,and South *** the intercontinental scale,case studies have attributed this exceptional event to a displacement of the climatological western North Pacific subtropical anticyclone,potentially associated Indian Ocean sea surface temperature patterns and a mid-latitude wave train emanating from the North *** clusters of spatial patterns of sea level pressure,we show that an unprecedented 80%of the 2020 summer days in East Asia were dominated by clusters of surface pressure greater than normal over the South China *** examining the rainfall and water vapor fluxes in other years when these clusters were also prevalent,we find that the frequency of these types of clusters was likely to have been largely responsible for the unusual rainfall of *** two ensembles of future climate projections,we show that summers like 2020 in East Asia may become more frequent and considerably wetter in a warmer world with an enhanced moisture supply.

Loneliness is associated with high prevalences of major psychiatric illnesses such as major ***,the underlying emotional mechanisms of loneliness remained *** hypothesized that loneliness originates from both decreases in positive emotional processing and increases in negative emotion *** test this,we conducted a systematic review of 29 previous studies(total participants n=19560,mean age=37.16 years,female proportion=59.7%),including 18 studies that included ques-tionnaire measures of emotions only,and 11 studies that examined the brain correlates of *** main findings were that loneliness was negatively correlated with general positive emotions and positively correlated with general negative ***-thermore,limited evidence indicates loneliness exhibited negative and positive correlations with the brain positive(*** striatum)and negative(***)emotion systems,respectively,but the sign of correlation was not entirely ***,loneli-ness was associated with the structure and function of the brain emotion regulation systems,particularly the prefrontal cortex,but the direction of this relationship remained *** concluded that the existing evidence supported a bivalence model of lone-liness,but several critical gaps existed that could be addressed by future studies that include adolescent and middle-aged samples,use both questionnaire and task measures of emotions,distinguish between general emotion and social emotion as well as between positive and negative emotion regulation,and adopt a longitudinal design that allows us to ascertain the causal relationships between loneliness and emotion *** findings provide new insights into the underlying emotion mechanisms of loneliness that can inform interventions for lonely individuals.

Upper ocean mixing plays a key role in the atmosphere-ocean heat transfer and sea ice extent and thickness via modulating the upper ocean temperatures in the Arctic *** of diffusivities in the Arctic that directly indicate the ocean mixing properties are ***,the spatiotemporal pattern and magnitude of diapycnal diffusivities and kinetic energy dissipation rates in the upper Arctic Ocean are important for atmosphere-ocean heat transfers and sea ice *** were first estimated from the Ice-Tethered Profilers dataset(2005–2019)using a strain-based fine-scale *** resultant mixing properties showed signifi cant geographical inhomogeneity and temporal *** diff usivities and dissipation rates in the Atlantic sector of the Arctic Ocean were stronger than those on the Pacific *** in the Atlantic sector increased significantly during the observation period;whereas in the Pacific sector,it weakened before 2011 and then *** impact factors include wind,sea ice,near inertial waves,and stratifi cation,while their relative contributions vary between the two sectors of the Arctic *** the Atlantic sector,turbulent mixing dominated,while in the Pacific sector,turbulent mixing was inhibited by strong stratification prior to 2011,and is able to overcome the stratifi cation gradually after *** vertical turbulent heat fl ux constantly increased in the Atlantic sector year by year,while it decreased in the Pacific sector post *** estimated heat flux variability induced by enhanced turbulent mixing is expected to continue to diminish sea ice in the near future.

The flow properties of geomechanically generated discrete fracture networks are examined in the context of *** networks are generated by growing fractures in tension,modelling the low permeability rock as a linear elastic *** are modelled as discrete surfaces which grow quasi-statically within a three-dimensional(3D)*** may have their locations specified as a simulation input,or be generated as a function of damage,quantified using the local variation in equivalent *** properties of the grown networks are shown to be a product of in situ stress,relative orientation of initial flaws,and competitive process of fracture interaction and *** grow preferentially in the direction perpendicular to the direction of maximum tension and may deviate from this path due to mechanical fracture *** is significantly channelled through a subset of the fractures in the full domain,consistent with observations of other real and simulated *** the fracture networks grow,small changes in the geometry of the fractures lead to large changes in the locations and scale of primary flow *** flow variability and formation of channels are examined for two growing networks,one with a fixed amount of fractures,and another with nucleating *** interaction between fractures is shown to modify the local stress field,and in turn the aperture of the *** for single-phase flow are the results of hydro-mechanical effects in fracture networks during *** are the results of changes to the topology of the network as well as the result of mechanical self-organisation which occurs during interaction leading to growth and intersection.

Purpose: In recent years, one can witness a trend in research evaluation to measure the impact on society or attention to research by society(beyond science). We address the following question: can Twitter be meaningfully used for the mapping of public and scientific discourses?Design/methodology/approach: Recently, Haunschild et al.(2019) introduced a new network-oriented approach for using Twitter data in research evaluation. Such a procedure can be used to measure the public discussion around a specific field or topic. In this study, we used all papers published in the Web of Science(WoS, Clarivate Analytics) subject category Information Science & Library Science to explore the publicly discussed topics from the area of library and information science(LIS) in comparison to the topics used by scholars in their publications in this ***: The results show that LIS papers are represented rather well on Twitter. Similar topics appear in the networks of author keywords of all LIS papers, not tweeted LIS papers, and tweeted LIS papers. The networks of the author keywords of all LIS papers and not tweeted LIS papers are most similar to each *** limitations: Only papers published since 2011 with DOI were *** implications: Although Twitter data do not seem to be useful for quantitative research evaluation, it seems that Twitter data can be used in a more qualitative way for mapping of public and scientific ***/value: This study explores a rather new methodology for comparing public and scientific discourses.

Extensive documentation has been developed to support the benefits of daylight for building ***,the high performance building industry has shown a trend towards prioritizing better daylighting *** response to this trend,the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design(LEED)rating system now addresses daylighting and views as one of the criteria for ***,effective daylighting has its challenges-most importantly addressing the issue of *** paper discusses the issue of glare and its relationship with requirements for effective daylighting within the criteria of the LEED rating *** this study,a LEED certified building on Montana State University’s campus was considered as a case *** paper conducts an analysis by comparing the results obtained from compliance procedures for LEED with independent evaluations of glare using simulation and post occupancy evaluation *** paper concludes that the‘illuminance simulation’option provided in the current version of LEED(LEED v4)for compliance does not adequately address the issue of *** paper provides recommendations to improve the LEED rating system for indoor environmental quality which include:the incorporation of glare assessment in the evaluation procedures of daylighting and views;the use of dynamic simulations that incorporate climatic conditions in the evaluation of daylighting;and evaluating glare in early stages of design by using simulation tools.
