Quality indicators in subtropical soils of Formosa,Argentina:Changes for agriculturization process

The agriculturization process has been defined as the advance of annual crops in different environments,in competition with traditional land uses such as agriculture rotations with *** Argentina and other countries agriculturization has different degrees of impact on natural *** the northeast region of the province of Formosa,Argentina,agriculturization includes deforestation(clear cutting,slash burning and plowing),technological improvements and changes in land *** of these alterations,it is necessary to define the state of the soil to evaluate its *** can be done by means of indicators,which are not universal;they differ according to the use,management and type of soils,weather conditions and *** objectives of this paper are:(1)To identify quality indicators for subtropical Argiudolls and Hapludolls;(2)To determine which indicators related to organic matter are most affected during *** changes produced in the Typic Hapludolls and Typic Argiudolls after 25 years of continuously using native forests,agriculture,fruit plantations and pastures were *** changes were in pH,electrical conductivity,total organic carbon,particulate organic carbon,total nitrogen,structural stability,hydraulic conductivity,respiration and dehydrogenase and urease and enzyme *** with significant differences between diverse uses were evaluated by multivariate methods,Principal Component Analysis,and Correlation *** results of this study showed that total organic carbon,particulate organic carbon,structural stability and dehydrogenase activity are the quality indicators most affected by *** are related to organic matter.

Network-centric medicine for peripheral nerve injury:treating the whole to boost endogenous mechanisms of neuroprotection and regeneration

Peripheral nerve injuries caused by accidents may lead to paralysis,sensory disturbances,anaesthesia,and lack of autonomic *** recovery after disconnection of the motoneuronal soma from target tissue with proximal rupture of axons is determined by several factors:motoneuronal soma viability,proper axonal sprouting across inhibitory zones and elongation toward specific muscle,effective synapse contact rebuilding,and prevention of muscle ***,such as adjuvant drugs with pleiotropic effects,that promote functional recovery after peripheral nerve injury are *** this aim,we designed a drug discovery workflow based on a network-centric molecular vision using unbiased proteomic data and neural artificial computational *** focus is on boosting intrinsic capabilities of neurons for neuroprotection;this is in contrast to the common approach based on suppression of a pathobiological pathway known to be associated with disease *** our workflow,we discovered neuroheal,a combination of two repurposed drugs that promotes motoneuronal soma neuroprotection,is anti-inflammatory,enhances axonal regeneration after axotomy,and reduces muscle *** drug discovery workflow has thus yielded a therapy that is close to its clinical application.

Factors affecting populations of the endemic Iberian hare(lepus granatensis)after the first myxomatosis outbreaks in Central Spain

The Iberian hare(lepus granatensis)is an endemic species distributed in Spain and *** outbreaks affecting this species were detected in 2018 in Central and Southern Spain,spreading *** to evaluate factors affecting the status of hare population after the arrival of myxomatosis,we conducted 108 nocturnal hare counts in Central Spain during two study periods(winter/spring and summer/autumn)in 54 different hunting grounds,covering 1071 km and observing 884 *** mean density in winter/spring was 7.66 hares/100 ha,(range 6.14-9.54/100 ha),while in summer/autumn,it was 3.4 hares/100 ha(range 2.6-4.4/100 ha).Densities of hares were not affected by the dominant habitat and the presence/absence of myxomatosis *** were more abundant at hunting grounds at a higher altitude and in those conducting targeted management,while detection of myxomatosis was related to lower altitude and higher levels of game management.A MaxEnt model used to generate a risk map for myxomatosis occurrence showed that the temperature annual range was the most important predictor,which suggests that environmental factors affecting myxomatosis vectors(mosquitoes,fleas,and ticks)could play a key role in disease *** myxomatosis in hares is becoming endemic,hare densities may be improved by game management and the monitoring and surveillance of this emerging *** surveillance programs could be the basis of effective collaborations between hunters,researchers,and environmental managers.

Avian responses to an extreme weather event:The case of the‘Filomena’snowstorm in Madrid(central Spain)

Cold spells and severe weather may have detrimental effects in wild birds,but owing to the stochastic nature of these events,it is not always possible to measure their *** January 2021,a strong snowstorm known as‘Filomena’affected Spain,mainly the region of Madrid(Central Spain),which was fully covered with snow and suffered freezing temperatures for a *** bird surveys conducted in the winter-spring of 2020 and 2021(before and after Filomena)at same locations,we addressed the possible impact of the cold spell in three widespread gamebirds:Wood Pigeon(Columba palumbus),Eurasian Magpie(Pica pica)and Red-legged Partridge(Alectoris rufa).No significant abundance differences were found between years for none of the species and hunting pressure was only significantly reduced for Partridges,hence this species may have been negatively affected by *** suggest that in response to Filomena,Pigeons conducted partial migration in search of better conditions,while Magpies aggregated in certain areas of Madrid and Partridges endured the harsh conditions within their home *** results highlight the importance to alleviate negative impacts of extreme weather events in wild birds through management actions,especially for sedentary species.

Stress response is a cellular widespread mechanism encoded by a common protein program composed by multiple cellular factors that converge in a defense reaction to protect the cell against *** many mechanisms described,heat shock proteins were proposed as universally conserved protective factors in the stress core proteome,coping with different stress stimuli through its canonical role in protein ***,emerging evidences reveal non-canonical roles of heat shock proteins relevant for physiological and pathological ***,we review the implications of inducible heat shock proteins in the central nervous system *** particular,we discuss the relevance of heat shock proteins in the maintenance of synapses,as a balanced protective mechanism in central nervous system development,pathological conditions and aging.

Hyperparameter optimization of YOlOv8 for smoke and wildfire detection:Implications for agricultural and environmental safety

In this study,we extensively evaluated the viability of the state-of-the-art YOlOv8 architecture for object detec-tion tasks,specifically tailored for smoke and wildfire identification with a focus on agricultural and environmen-tal *** available versions of YOlOv8 were initially fine-tuned on a domain-specific dataset that included a variety of scenarios,crucial for comprehensive agricultural ***‘large’version(YOlOv8l)was se-lected for further hyperparameter tuning based on its performance *** model underwent a detailed hyperparameter optimization using the One Factor At a Time(OFAT)methodology,concentrating on key param-eters such as learning rate,batch size,weight decay,epochs,and *** from the OFAT study were used to define search spaces for a subsequent random Search(RS).The final model derived from RS demon-strated significant improvements over the initial fine-tuned model,increasing overall precision by 1.39%,recall by 1.48%,F1-score by 1.44%,mAP@0.50 by 0.70%,and mAP@0.50:0.95 by 5.09%.We validated the enhanced model's efficacy on a diverse set of real-world images,reflecting various agricultural settings,to confirm its ro-bustness in detecting smoke and *** results underscore the model's reliability and effectiveness in scenar-ios critical to agricultural safety and environmental *** work,representing a significant advancement in the field of fire and smoke detection through machine learning,lays a strong foundation for fu-ture research and solutions aimed at safeguarding agricultural areas and natural environments.

Geological inferences about the upper crustal configuration of the Medellin-Aburra Valley(Colombia)using strong motion seismic records

In regions of complex geology and tectonic assembly, strong motion seismic arrival time records can be used to test the plausibility of existing hypothesis about the origin of lithological and tectonic features and how they are related in space and time. In this study we use differential travel time residuals at some strong motion accelerographic stations in the Medellin-Aburra Valley, in the northern Central Cordillera of the Colombian Andes, to discuss some aspects of the geological configuration. We based our work on the hypothesis that the differences between seismic travel time residuals among pairs of stations are a function of the differences in the surface geology and the near-surface upper crustal configuration. Our results are consistent with the volcanic rocks of the Quebradagrande Complex being less mafic, more weathered or more tectonically affected than previously thought, with the presence of a relatively thin dunite body on top of the metamorphic basement, and with a large lateral heterogeneity in the mainly mafic San Diego Stock.

Cutting-edge technologies are extremely useful to develop new workflows in studying ecological data,particularly to understand animal behavior and movement trajectories at the individual *** parental care is a well-studied phenomenon,most studies have been focused on direct observational or video recording data,as well as experimental ***,what happens out of our sight still remains *** high-frequency GPS/GSM dataloggers and tri-axial accelerometers we monitored 25 Bonelli’s eagles Aquila fasciata during the breeding season to understand parental activities from a broader *** used recursive data,measured as number of visits and residence time,to reveal nest attendance patterns of biparental care with role specialization between *** data interpreted as the overall dynamic body acceleration,a proxy of energy expenditure,showed strong differences in parental effort throughout the breeding season and between ***,males increased substantially their energetic requirements,due to the increased workload,while females spent most of the time on the ***,during critical phases of the breeding season,a low percentage of suitable hunting spots in eagles’territories led them to increase their ranging behavior in order to find food,with important consequences in energy consumption and mortality *** results highlight the crucial role of males in raptor species exhibiting biparental ***,we exemplify how biologging technologies are an adequate and objective method to study parental care in raptors as well as to get deeper insight into breeding ecology of birds in general.
