This paper presents the reasons why countries to which Chagas disease is endemic should carry out the relevant research themselves. A local technical capability for a rational improvement in the chemical control of vectors is being developed. This research includes (1) the triatomicidal activity of chemical insecticides, (2) determination of the mechanisms of action of these chemicals, (3) search for new synergists of these insecticides, (4) development of fumigation canisters which may be more widely used, and (5) development of new chemicals with a greater potential for use as triatomicides. 1989 Academic Press, Inc.

The current pressure on the built historical heritage requires a global evaluation to develop strategies for its preservation.A combined vision of the state of conservation of architectural heritage is essential to highlight the vulnerabilities of the structure from which harmonized measures can be proposed for its *** study proposes a multi-criteria analysis methodology that considers a qualitative and quantitative approach to organize the global conservation state of heritage buildings hierarchically.A global index can be determined on the basis of the generation of an interoperable data matrix by defining a set of indicators to assess different components of a *** index describes the risk with respect to the stability,safety,and habitability of the *** methodology aims to achieve the state of the building in an integral way by obtaining a simple and objective index that enables efficient comparison among different *** application of this methodology to a historic area allows creating a hierarchical map of risk to stablish priorities for intervention and enable a sustainable and critical management and planning over the actions of maintenance,conservation,and *** this way,a holistic vision of the complex reality of built heritage and the urban landscape is obtained to identify critical areas of priority intervention.

Designing and developing distributed cyber-physical production systems(CPPS)is a time-consuming,complex,and error-prone *** systems are typically heterogeneous,i.e.,they consist of multiple components implemented with different languages and development *** of the main problems nowadays in CPPS implementation is enabling security mechanisms by design while reducing the complexity and increasing the system’s *** the IEC 61499 standard is an excellent approach to tackle these challenges by enabling the design,deployment,and management of CPPS in a model-based engineering *** propose a method for CPPS design based on the IEC 61499 *** method allows designers to embed a bio-inspired anomaly-based host intrusion detection system(A-HIDS)in Edge *** A-HIDS is based on the incremental Dendritic Cell Algorithm(iDCA)and can analyze OPC UA network data exchanged between the Edge devices and detect attacks that target the CPPS’Edge *** study’s findings have practical implications on the industrial security community by making novel contributions to the intrusion detection problem in CPPS considering immune-inspired solutions,and cost-effective security by design system *** to the experimental data,the proposed solution can dramatically reduce design and code complexity while improving application maintainability and successfully detecting network attacks without negatively impacting the performance of the CPPS Edge devices.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST)has identified natural language policies as the preferred expression of policy and implicitly called for an automated translation of ABAC natural language access control policy(NLACP)to a machine-readable *** study the automation process,we consider the hierarchical ABAC model as our reference model since it better reflects the requirements of real-world ***,this paper focuses on the questions of:how can we automatically infer the hierarchical structure of an ABAC model given NLACPs;and,how can we extract and define the set of authorization attributes based on the resulting *** address these questions,we propose an approach built upon recent advancements in natural language processing and machine learning *** such a solution,the lack of appropriate data often poses a ***,we decouple the primary contributions of this work into:(1)developing a practical framework to extract authorization attributes of hierarchical ABAC system from natural language artifacts,and(2)generating a set of realistic synthetic natural language access control policies(NLACPs)to evaluate the proposed *** experimental results are promising as we achieved-in average-an F1-score of 0.96 when extracting attributes values of subjects,and 0.91 when extracting the values of objects’attributes from natural language access control policies.

Background： Post-production fractionation of wheat distillers grains with solubles（DDGS） increases their crude protein content and reduces their fiber *** experiment was conducted to determine the effects of fractionation of wheat DDGS on apparent total tract digestibility（ATTD） and performance when fed to broiler chicks（0–21 d）.Methods： A total of 150,day-old,male broiler chicks（Ross-308 line;Lilydale Hatchery,Wynyard,Saskatchewan） weighing an average of 49.6 ± 0.8 g were assigned to one of five dietary treatments in a completely randomized *** control diet was based on wheat and soybean meal and contained 20% regular wheat *** experimental diets contained 5,10,15 or 20% fractionated wheat DDGS added at the expense of regular wheat ***： The ATTD of dry matter and gross energy were linearly increased（P 0.01） as the level of fractionated wheat DDGS in the diet *** retention was unaffected by level of fractionated wheat DDGS（P 0.05）.Weight gain increased linearly（P = 0.05） as the level of fractionated wheat DDGS in the diet *** intake,feed conversion and mortality were unaffected by level of fractionated wheat DDGS in the diet（P 0.05）.Conclusions： Post-production fractionation of wheat DDGS improves their nutritional value by lowering their fiber content and increasing their content of crude protein and *** changes in chemical composition supported increased weight gain of broilers fed wheat DDGS.

The use of tolerant crop varieties is a strategy that mitigates the water deficit effect in a sustainable *** generation of these varieties is more efficient when variables associated with this tolerance have been identified,since they can facilitate the breeding *** study aimed to establish the relationships between water deficit tolerance of four cotton varieties(Nevada-123,Oasis-129,Guatapuri,and Festivalle)and morphological variables(monopodial branches,boll weight,root/shoot ratio,and leaf and root dry matter),physiological variables(relative water content,net photosynthesis,stomatal conductance,electron transport rate,photochemical quenching,photochemical efficiency of PSII,chlorophyll a/b ratio(Chl a/b),C^(12)/C^(13)isotope ratio,and electrolyte leakage),and biochemical variables(contents of sugars,proline,carotenoids,and malondialdehyde).Furthermore,calibrated predictive models of the drought tolerance indices were developed based on the key variables *** this purpose,a pot experiment was established where plants were subjected to a moderate or severe water deficit during the blooming stage for 12 *** stress tolerance index(STI)and mean productivity(MP)were *** the evaluated variables,the differences between well-watered and water deficit plants(Δ)were calculated and ANOVA,partial least squares,Pearson’s correlation,and multiple linear regression analyzes were performed.A model was generated that explained 95% of the STI and was composed of Δmalondialdehyde,Δproline,and Δboll *** MP,the model was comprised of Δstomatal conductance,Δroot/shoot ratio,and ΔChl a/b,and explained 89% of the *** analysis of the assessed variables allowed the identification of key variables and the development of calibrated predictive models that can be used in screening to obtain cotton varieties with different levels of water deficit tolerance.

Aims Assessing the role of a dominant native bamboo species on tree species diversity and structure in the medium *** Over a 7-year period,we studied the natural regeneration of two dominant forest types in Southern Brazil(Araucaria Forest or AF;Bamboo Forest or BF)after a bamboo(Merostachys skvortzovii Send.)die-off between 2004 and *** study was carried out in the Embrapa Research Station in Cacador,Santa Catarina State,*** Findings The die-off provided ideal conditions for the establishment of several species and it kickstarted forest succession dynamics,which in turn affected regeneration *** species richness was relatively stable with a transitory increase between 2007 and 2014 in both AF and ***,species richness rose in BF because of a relative increase in abundance of some species(especially late and secondary species)while a plunge in some pioneer species drove an increase in ***,we found that BF has a lower diversity of recruits and that density declined over time,while AF is more diverse,with a more stable *** BF,the bamboo die-off created optimal conditions for initial regeneration development(mainly fast-growing pioneer trees),which quickly transited to higher size ***,after this initial stage of pioneer recruitment,the number of recruits dropped followed by a virtual absence of growth regardless of the species group as a result of a quick bamboo *** bamboo recreated a dense understory it reduced species diversity to original levels,suggesting a self-maintaining cycle that halts forest *** the other hand,the bamboo die-off had little impact on AF where a slow recruitment process typical of old-growth forests was *** results indicate that the die-off event had a temporary effect on species diversity *** to forests where bamboos are dominant in a similar process described in other southern South American *** the first study to obser

A biologically inspired model for pattern recognition

In this paper, a novel bionic model and its performance in pattern recognition are presented and discussed. The model is constructed from a bulb model and a three-layered cortical model, mimicking the main features of the olfactory system. The olfactory bulb and cortex models are connected by feedforward and feedback fibers with distributed delays. The Breast Cancer Wisconsin dataset consisting of data from 683 patients divided into benign and malignant classes is used to demonstrate the capacity of the model to learn and recognize patterns, even when these are deformed versions of the originally learned patterns. The performance of the novel model was compared with three artificial neural networks (ANNs), a back-propagation network, a support vector machine classifier, and a radial basis function classifier. All the ANNs and the olfactory bionic model were tested in a benchmark study of a standard dataset. Experimental results show that the bionic olfactory system model can learn and classify patterns based on a small training set and a few learning trials to reflect biological intelligence to some extent.

The revegetation of mined areas poses a great challenge to the iron ore mining *** initial recovery process in degraded areas might rely on the use of Fe-resistant *** grasses, such as Paspalum densum and Echinochloa crus-galli, show different resistance strategies to iron toxicity; however, these mechanisms are poorly *** Fe-resistance mechanisms and direct iron toxicity as a function of root apex removal were investigated. To achieve this purpose, both grass species were grown for up to 480 hr in a nutrient solution containing 0.019 or 7 mmol/L Fe-EDTA after the root apices had been removed or maintained. Cultivation in the presence of excess iron-induced leaf bronzing and the formation of iron plaque on the root surfaces of both grass species, but was more significant on those plants whose root apex had been removed. Iron accumulation was higher in the roots, but reached phytotoxic levels in the aerial parts as well. It did not hinder the biosynthesis of chloroplastidic pigments. No significant changes in gas exchange and chlorophyll a fluorescence occurred in either grass when their roots were kept intact; the contrary was true for plants with excised root apices. In both studied grasses, the root apoplastic barriers had an important function in the restriction of iron translocation from the root to the aerial plant parts, especially in E. crus-galli. Root apex removal negatively influenced the iron toxicity resistance mechanisms(tolerance in P. densum and avoidance in E. crus-galli).
