With increasing age,humans become more susceptible to the onset of neurodegenerative diseases(NDs),and among these,Alzheimer's disease(AD)is the most frequent(Nicoletti et al.,2023).NDs are primarily characterized by neuronal loss and atrophy,but also by lesions involving the cerebral and/or cardiovascular system(Balistreri,2021).Lesions such as macroinfa rcts,microinfarcts,hemorrhages,white matter lesions,atherosclerosis,and arteriolosclerosis have also been significantly described in the preclinical stages of cognitive impairment characterizing NDs(Mariani et al.,2007).

Dune barrier systems represent highly sought-after coastal landscapes for tourism and urban development around the world. However, a century ago, they were considered hazardous environments due to their great dynamic nature. As a result, stabilization practices were considered necessary. The systematic introduction of fast-growing exotic trees helped stabilize the sand, making it easier for tourism urbanization to take place, but also leading to erosion processes. This paper aims to assess long-term changes in vegetation cover over a large temperate barrier in Argentina. This complex region includes urban resorts, afforestation zones, and protected areas. A GIS-based geospatial analysis was conducted using a large satellite database(> 350 images), and the future evolution of the vegetation was modeled. The results revealed two primary spatiotemporal patterns associated with a gradual expansion of vegetation cover, accompanied by a concurrent reduction in sandy areas. In 1986, the dune area comprised 75% more surface than vegetation, whereas in 2021, it represented 60% less than vegetation. Furthermore, the 2050 scenario suggests a potential 40% reduction of dunes in certain areas. It is necessary to enhance management actions aimed at maintaining dune mobility and ensuring local and regional sediment balance. Long-term management strategies must focus on restoring native plant communities and controlling invasive species, and avoiding new dune fixation initiatives based on the introduction of exotic species.

The use of carbon from waste biomass has the potential to buffer the drawbacks of Li-S batteries and improve their overall performance. Chrome-Tanned-LeatherShavings(CTLS) are undesirable wastes, highly available for transformation into porous carbon. Microwave activation is an efficient state-of-the-art procedure to obtain unique porous structures and nitrogen incorporation can improve the performance of porous carbons. This study proposes the transformation of CTLS into a microwave activated porous carbon, and then was modified to introduce nitrogen. A microporous activated carbon with a specific surface area of 556 m2g-1 with honeycomb-like structure was obtained. Both urea thermal decomposition and ethanolamine impregnation improves the nitrogen and amine presence of surface groups. However,the results indicated that only urea treatment was effective in improving the initial capacity of the cell(1363 mAhg-1), which is probably linked with the sorption of long-chain polysulfides. This investigation confirms that it is possible to obtain carbon materials from CTLS, for use as sulfur-host cathodes in Li-S batteries, and improve their performance with urea thermal decomposition. Furthermore, a Radial basis function neural network was fitted to provide statistical support to the experimental results. The trained model corroborated the importance of nitrogen content of the carbons in the discharge capacity of the cells.

High intensity resistance training(HI-RT)is a treatment option for Knee Osteoarthritis(KOA).Isotonic machines(leg press,leg extension)are utilized for standardization and reproducibility reasons,but the load used during the protocol is often low,considering that elder people usually have low strength levels,training so with high in-tensities calculated on low *** physiological response of an elder woman trained with high loads on a free weight exercise,the regular barbell deadlift,with a 1 Repetition Maximum(1RM)of 100 kg,can be appreciated in this report,so that for the first time we can see the effect of a one year of high intensity resistance training program on a powerlifting exercise on a 72 year-old woman with KOA.A Western Ontario and McMaster Uni-versities Arthritis Index(WOMAC)questionnaire was administered before starting the training program(T0)and after 1 year of training,as long as a control RX,to evaluate the effect of HI-RT on joint functionality and quality of life.

上世纪中期,博学的荷兰汉学家罗伯特·汉斯·凡·古立克(高罗佩)深为中国古典公案小说所吸引,并受其人物、情节和结构的启发,写下了一系列探案小说(1959-1967),旨在引导西方读者认识一种在西方几乎不为人知的文学类型。在他看来,由于与西方侦探小说的鲜明惯例存在诸多差异,传统写法的中国公案小说无法吸引西方读者。凡·古立克概括了中西侦探小说的5大显著区别,并创作了自己的系列探案小说,试图尽可能地忠实于公案小说传统,但为了不使西方读者感到疏离,又对一些习见的中式特征(如超自然因素)做了省略或修改。本文通过比较作为这位荷兰汉学家研究起点的中国小说《狄公案》(成书于约1890年)和凡·古立克自己创作的狄公探案传奇,考察他是如何在不违背以现实主义为主的西方经典侦探小说形式的同时,加入了中国的超自然因素。
