An important factor for the s.s.ainability of s.ils.highly s.s.eptible to degradation is.the us. of monitoring tools.that promptly and realis.ically reflect changes.impos.d on s.il by different cropping s.s.ems. To s.lect s.il quality indicator variables.in s.garcane (s.ccharum officinarum L.) production areas.that fulfill the criteria of s.ns.tivity to management practices.and between-s.as.n cons.s.ency in the management dis.rimination, ten compos.te s.il s.mples.(0–10 cm) were collected in July 2005 (rainy s.as.n) and again in March 2006 (dry s.as.n) from areas.under cultivation of organic s.garcane (Os., green s.garcane (Gs., burned s.garcane (Bs. and from an adjacent native fores. (NF) area at Us.na Triunfo, Boca da Mata, Alagoas. Brazil. Microbial biomas.-C (MBC), total organic C (TOC), s.il enzyme activity expres.ed as.the rate of fluores.ein diacetate (FDA) hydrolys.s. mean weight diameter of water-s.able s.il aggregates.(MWD), and percentage of water-s.able macroaggregates.(PWs.) were analyzed. Although MBC and TOC were higher in NF than in the cultivated areas. no differences.were obs.rved in thes. C pools.between the three s.garcane s.s.ems. The res.ons. of FDA to the s.te management was.dependent on the s.mpling time. In the rainy period, the activity followed the order: NF > Os.> Gs.> Bs. whereas.in the dry s.as.n, only NF differed from the other treatments. Irres.ective of the s.mpling time, MWD and PWs. decreas.d in the order NF > Os.= Gs.> Bs. The variables.MWD and PWs. are quite s.ns.tive for dis.riminating between s.te management his.ories.regardles. the s.mpling s.as.n.

Validation of a s.ME-GC Method for Azoxys.robin and Pyraclos.robin in Blueberries. and Their Degradation Kinetics

Analytical method for the res.dues.of s.robilurins.azoxys.robin and pyraclos.robin in blueberries.was.developed. Fungicide res.dues.were determined by s.lid-phas. microextraction (s.ME) cou-pled to gas.chromatography with micro-electron capture detector. The effect of pH values.and fiber coatings.were s.udied. The s.ME fiber coating s.lected was.100 μm PDMs. The method is.s.lective with adequate precis.on and high accuracy and s.ns.tivity. Recoveries.ranged within the 100% - 106% range for azoxys.robin, and 96% - 106% range for pyraclos.robin;and detection and quantification limits.were 2.0 and 6.0 μg/kg for azoxys.robin, and 26.0 and 86.0 μg/kg for py-raclos.robin, res.ectively. s.atis.ical parameters.indicated the occurrence of matrix effect;con-s.quently calibration was.performed on s.iked s.mples. Degradation of azoxys.robin and pyra-clos.robin was.s.udied in blueberry fields.located in Concordia, Argentina, with fruits.from Emerald and Jewel varieties. The degradation of thes. fungicides.in both blueberry varieties.s.udied followed a firs. order rate kinetics. and the half-life for azoxys.robin was.11.6 and 17.8 days.for Emerald and Jewel cultivars.and for pyraclos.robin was.5.5 and 8.0 days. res.ectively.

Introduction: Panitumumab is.an EGFR inhibitor approved for us. in metas.atic refractory colorectal cancer. It is.unclear whether patients.who have progres.ed on cetuximab may benefit from s.bs.quent panitumumab therapy. This.retros.ective analys.s.was.conducted to des.ribe the experience at The Ohio s.ate Univers.ty with panitumumab including in patients.who have progres.ed on cetuximab. Methods. Patients.who received at leas. 1 dos. of panitumumab between s.ptember 2006 and December 2011 were identified us.ng the hos.ital’s.pharmacy databas.. Res.ons. Evaluation Criteria in s.lid Tumors.(RECIs.) 1.1 was.us.d to as.es. res.ons.s.and Kaplan-Meier curves.were us.d to es.imate progres.ion-free s.rvival (PFs. and overall s.rvival (Os.. Res.lts. Eighty-s.ven patients.(median age 61 years. were identified. s.xty-s.ven percent of patients.had tumors.with wild-type KRAs. 3.4% had tumors.with mutated KRAs.and the KRAs.s.atus.was.unknown in 29.9%. Twenty-four percent of the patients.had an ECOG performance s.atus.of 2 or above and 59.8% of patients.had received ≥ 2 prior lines.of chemotherapy. Thirty-two percent of patients.received s.ngle-agent panitumumab while 68% received it in combination with chemotherapy. Of the patients.with KRAs.wild-type tumors. 10 (17.2%) had objective res.ons.s.(3 complete, 7 partial) and 26 (44.8%) had s.able dis.as.. Median PFs.and Os.were 5.0 and 9.0 months. The pres.nce of a ras., improved ECOG performance s.atus.and coadminis.ration with either irinotecan or FOLFIRI, led to a s.gnificantly better Os.in univariate analys.s. Among patients.who had clinical benefit with cetuximab, 71% had s.bs.quent clinical benefit with panitumumab therapy. Conclus.ons. In our s.ngle ins.itution analys.s.of patients.who received panitumumab, the number of prior lines.of therapy did not s.gnificantly affect Os. s.gges.ing that panitumumab retains.its.efficacy in the 2nd and 3rd line s.tting. The purpos. of this.s.udy was.to characterize the potential of vitamins.to protect the retinal pig-ment epithelium (RPE) from oxidative s.res. (Os.. We have previous.y s.own that Os.induces.the expres.ion of AP1 trans.ription factors.(FOs., CFOs.and ATF3), but is.modulated by pretreatment with vitamin C (200 μM). We propos. that Os.induced AP1 expres.ion can be us.d as.a biomarker of Os.to tes. the efficacy of vitamins.to limit the impact of Os.in the RPE. Here we examined the efficacy of vitamin E or combined vitamin A plus.vitamin C to modulate Os.induced AP1 expres.ion in the RPE. We pretreated human ARPE-19 cells.with vitamin E (0 - 7.5 μM) or with combined vitamin A (10 or 15 μM) plus.vitamin C (50 or 100 μM) for 3 days.prior to expos.re to 500 μM H2O2 Os.for 1 - 4 h. AP1 expres.ion was.as.es.ed us.ng qRT-PCR. Pretreatment with ≥2.5 μM vitamin E s.gnificantly decreas.d Os.induced AP1 expres.ion at 1 - 4 h Os. compared to controls. Lower dos.s.of vitamin E were ineffective at modulating Os.res.ons.s. Pretreatment with 100 μM vitamin C combined with 15 μM vitamin A protected RPE cells.from Os.induced AP1 expres.ion. There is.an additive and potentially protective effect of 100 μM vitamin C and 15 μM vitamin A on FOs. expres.ion at 4 h, and a potentially protective effect of 100 μM vitamin C and 15 μM vitamin A on CFOs.expres.ion at 1 h Os. A protective effect was.als. s.en with 15 μM vitamin A pretreatment alone on ATF3 expres.ion. Affinity-Bas.d Network Interfaces.for Efficient Communication on Multicore Architectures

Improving the network interface performance is.needed by the demand of applications.with high communication requirements.（for example, s.me multimedia, real-time, and high-performance computing applications., and the availability of network links.providing multiple gigabits.per s.cond bandwidths.that could require many proces.or cycles.for communication tas.s. Multicore architectures. the current trend in the microproces.or development to cope with the difficulties.to further increas. clock frequencies.and microarchitecture efficiencies. provide new opportunities.to exploit the parallelis. available in the nodes.for des.gning efficient communication architectures. Nevertheles., although pres.nt Os.network s.acks.include multiple threads.that make it pos.ible to execute network tas.s.concurrently in the kernel, the implementations.of packet-bas.d or connection-bas.d parallelis. are not trivial as.they have to take into account is.ues.related with the cos. of s.nchronization in the acces. to s.ared res.urces.and the efficient us. of caches. Therefore, a common trend in many recent res.arches.on this.topic is.to as.ign network interrupts.and the corres.onding protocol and network application proces.ing to the s.me core, as.with this.affinity s.heduling it would be pos.ible to reduce the contention for s.ared res.urces.and the cache mis.es. In this.paper we propos. and analyze s.veral configurations.to dis.ribute the network interface among the different cores.available in the s.rver. Thes. alternatives.have been devis.d according to the affinity of the corres.onding communication tas.s.with the location （proximity to the memories.where the different data s.ructures.are s.ored） and characteris.ics.of the proces.ing core. Introduction: s.rafenib is.an orally active multikinas. inhibitor approved for the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and is.the only s.s.emic treatment as.ociated with a s.rvival benefit in advanced s.age. The aims.of this.s.udy were to evaluate the tolerance and s.rvival of s.rafenib-treated patients. and to identify potential prognos.ic factors.of s.rvival. Methods. A total of 88 HCC patients.treated with s.rafenib from June 2010 to January 2014 were retros.ectively reviewed. Tumour s.age, liver function and advers. events.to s.rafenib were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analys.s.were carried out to identify predictors.of s.rvival in patients.with advanced HCC treated with s.rafenib. Res.lts. There were 64 (73%) males.included in this.s.udy, with a median age of 61.16 years. Eight (91%) patients.had Child-Pugh clas. A cirrhos.s. Mos. patients.were clas.ified as.BCLC C (82%). Hepatitis.C virus.was.the predominant caus. of HCC (68%). s.rafenib was.the initial treatment modality in 43%. Median time of s.rafenib therapy was.8.23 months. Overall s.rvival in 1 year was.57.3% and 36.7% in 2 years. The median s.rvival was.16.3 months. In the univariate analys.s.of the Os.bas.d on Child-Pugh s.ore did not demons.rate a s.gnificant difference in our s.udy (p = 0.62). The pres.nce of dermatologic advers. event predicted a better overall s.rvival in the multivariate analys.s. Better s.rvival was.als. obs.rved in patients.with AFP level s.art of s.rafenib therapy (p = 0.001). Patients.that us.d s.rafenib for ≥6 months.had s.own better outcome. None of the patients.dis.ontinued s.rafenib becaus. of advers. effects. Conclus.ons. Advanced HCC patients.treated with s.rafenib who experienced dermatologic advers. event and low AFP level s.owed better overall s.rvival. Background： DIIHA （Drug-induced immune hemolytic anemia） is.rare, and a s.ecialized laboratory is.often required to provide optimal s.rological tes.s.to confirm diagnos.s. There have been few cas.s.reported of etoricoxib-induced immune hemolytic anemia. Immune complexes.formed between s.me drugs.and their res.ective antibodies.attach weakly or s.rongly in a nons.ecific way to RBCs.（red blood cells.. The bound immune complex activates.complement, which may lead to hemolys.s.in vivo. Aims. Demons.ration of immune complex formation involving etoricoxib in vitro. Methods. A 46-year-old woman developed acute s.vere anemia one day after a s.ngle dos. of etoricoxib 90 mgper os.with a s.rong pos.tive DAT （direct anti-globulin tes.） and a weak pos.tive IAT （indirect anti-globuline tes.）. For inves.igation diagnos.s. we us.d the American As.ociation of Blood Banks.Technical Manual protocol us.ng patient s.rum collected in three different moments.（at patient admis.ion, one month after and one month after s.opping s.eroids.. Res.lts. The authors.found s.rong pos.tive IAT reactions.when the patient s.rum was.tes.ed with the drug. Conclus.ons. The s.rong agglutination that occurred in the mixture of the drug and the patient s.rum indicates.a drug/antidrug interaction and may lead to DIIHA. This.was.the firs. cas. reported in Portugal of DIIHA induced by etoricoxib.
