Fast prediction of rain erosion in wind turbine blades using a data-based computational tool

Wind turbines(WTs)face a high risk of failure due to environmental factors like erosion,particularly in high-precipitation areas and offshore *** this paper we introduce a novel computational tool for the fast prediction of rain erosion damage on WT blades that is useful in operation and maintenance decision making *** approach is as follows:Pseudo-Direct Numerical Simulation(P-DNS)simulations of the droplet-laden flow around the blade section profile are employed to build a high-fidelity data set of impact statistics for potential operating *** this database as training data,a machine learning-based surrogate model provides the feature of the impact pattern over the 2-D section for given wind and rain *** this information,a fatigue-based model estimates the remaining lifetime and erosion damage for both homogeneous and coating-substrate blade *** prediction is done by quantifying the accumulated droplet impact energy and evaluating operative conditions over time periods for which the weather at the installation site is *** this work,we describe the modules that compose the prediction method,namely the database creation,the training of the surrogate model and their coupling to build the prediction ***,the method is applied to predict the remaining lifetime and erosion damage to the blade sections of a reference *** evaluate the reliability of the tool,several site locations(offshore,coastal,and inland),the coating material and the coating thickness of the blade are *** few minutes we are able to estimate erosion after many years of *** results are in good agreement with field observations,showing the promise of the new rain erosion prediction approach.

Factors Impacting Benefits of Participatory Forest Management in Upper Imenti Forest, Meru County, Kenya

This study focused on identifying factors affecting the benefits of Participatory Forestry Management (PFM) income generating activities in Upper Imenti Forest and whether they are dependent on status of participation in forest management through membership of Community Forest Association (CFA) or not. Cross-sectional survey research design was applied for collecting quantitative data using a semi-structured questionnaire administered to 384 households stratified on the basis of PFM participation status. Qualitative data was collected through focused group discussions using a checklist and key informant interviews using an interview schedule. Using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 25, Binomial regression with Wald Chi-square was analyzed to identify factors perceived to be significantly influencing benefits for PFM participants and Pearson Chi-square to compare factors perceived to be affecting PFM and non-PFM participants. CFA members participation in PFM was significantly and positively affected by benefits of PFM income generating activities and forest products accessed in the forest. Benefits linked to Plantation Establishment for Livelihood Improvement System (PELIS) for CFA members were significantly reduced by enforcement of moratorium policy since February 2018, diseases and pests, poor PELIS guideline adherence and animal damage. Benefits related to state forest access for firewood by the CFA members were negatively influenced by the moratorium policy. Diseases and pests affected benefits associated with bee keeping significantly. Comparing factors under different PFM participation status, crop production was significantly affected by policy changes, pest and diseases, animal damage and PELIS guideline adherence for CFA members than for Non-CFA members. Policy changes also affected the CFA members significantly in firewood collection and access to fodder in the state forest than the Non-CFA members. Hence, sustainable community participation

Fast-charging lithium-ion batteries are highly required,especially in reducing the mileage anxiety of the widespread electric *** of the biggest bottlenecks lies in the sluggish kinetics of the Li^(+)intercalation into the graphite anode;slow intercalation will lead to lithium metal plating,severe side reactions,and safety *** premise to solve these problems is to fully understand the reaction pathways and rate-determining steps of graphite during fast Li^(+)***,we compare the Li^(+)diffusion through the graphite particle,interface,and electrode,uncover the structure of the lithiated graphite at high current densities,and correlate them with the reaction kinetics and electrochemical *** is found that the rate-determining steps are highly dependent on the particle size,interphase property,and electrode *** Li^(+)diffusion leads to high polarization,incomplete intercalation,and the coexistence of several staging *** Li^(+)diffusion and electrode transportation are the main rate-determining steps if the particle size is less than 10μ*** former is highly dependent on the electrolyte chemistry and can be enhanced by constructing a fluorinated *** findings enrich the understanding of the graphite structural evolution during rapid Li^(+)intercalation,decipher the bottleneck for the sluggish reaction kinetics,and provide strategic guidelines to boost the fast-charging performance of graphite anode.

Electrophysiological evaluation of alterations in penile sensation due to penile prosthesis implantation in patients with erectile dysfunction

Objective The present study was aimed to determine the effect of penile prosthesis implantation(PPI)surgery on penile sensation by evaluating the penile electromyography(EMG)*** The research was designed as a prospective *** patients who were diagnosed with organic erectile dysfunction and had underwent PPI surgery between January 2017 and January 2018 in the Urology Clinic of Antalya Training and Research Hospital were included in this *** sensory EMG was performed on each patient 1 day prior to the surgery by the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation ***,the control EMG study was also performed in the 3rd and 6th postoperative *** We included 27 patients in this study who attended regular follow-ups and had complete EMG *** of the 27 patients,23(85.2%)patients had received malleable(ProMedon)penile prosthesis,one(3.7%)patient had received a two-piece inflatable(Ambicor)penile prosthesis,and three(11.1%)patients had received a three-piece inflatable(AMS 700 CXR)penile *** mean nerve conduction value(NCV)of the patients was 29.85(standard derivation:22.54;range:0-78.4)m/s during the preoperative period,whereas it was 27.64(standard derivation:24.72;range:0-83.3)m/s in the 3rd postoperative month and 24.80(standard derivation:22.31;range:0-88.4)m/s in the 6th postoperative *** was no significant difference between preoperative NCV and 3rd postoperative month NCV(p=0.607).Similarly,no significant difference was observed between preoperative NCV and 6th postoperative month NCV(p=0.276).Additionally,the change between NCV values at postoperative 3rd and 6th months was not statistically significant(p=0.553).Conclusion Significant loss of penile sensation does not occur in patients who undergo PPI surgery.

西昆仑玛尔坎苏地区是中国重要的锰矿资源基地,目前区内仍不断有新的锰矿点被报道,已发现多个大中型锰矿床。该地区锰矿床为海相沉积型矿床,赋矿层位为上石炭统喀拉阿特河组(C_(2)k)与下二叠统玛尔坎雀库塞山组(P_(1)m)。本文在总结玛尔坎苏地区锰矿床成矿规律的基础上,基于MRAS证据权重法,重建了该地区的锰矿床找矿模型。提取并构置了地层、遥感、锰化探异常3个预测要素作为证据因子。(1)地层信息证据因子:上石炭统喀拉阿特河组(C_(2)k)碳酸盐岩与下二叠统玛尔坎雀库塞山组(P_(1)m);(2)遥感证据因子:铁染异常区及羟基异常区;(3)化探证据因子:锰单元素化探异常区域。根据后验概率值圈定三级找矿有利靶区7处,并对找矿靶区进行了验证。通过圈定有利区,为下步找矿新突破提供了新的借鉴。

What Is the Relation between Aerobic Capacity and Physical Activity Level in Adults with Congenital Heart Disease?

Background:Aerobic capacity(AC)in adults with congenital heart disease(CHD)is often reduced,mainly due to low confidence levels towards physical activity(PA).The main objective of this study was to estimate the association between PA level and AC(measured as peak of oxygen consumption,VO_(2peak))in adults with ***:A total of 183 individuals(83 women and 100 men;mean(SD)age 36.9(11.0)years old)from Vall d’Hebron Hospital,Barcelona-Spain in 2019,participated in this cross-sectional *** AC was assessed by cardiopulmonary exercise testing(CPET)using a treadmill ramp *** values of metabolic equivalent of task(MET,MET-min·week-1)obtained by the short International Physical Activity Questionnaire(IPAQ),participants were divided into three categories of PA:health-enhancing PA(HEPA),minimally active,and ***:Median(SD)PA was 2737.2(2835.7)MET-min·week-1,with 60 participants(32.8%)reporting HEPA,91(49.7%)minimally active,and 32(17.5%)*** demonstrated a mean VO_(2peak) of 28.9(8.8)mL·Kg^(-1)·min^(-1),showing AC values on average 13%lower than expected in a healthy ***,PA and AC were positively *** for sex and age,an increase of 1000 MET-min·week^(-1) was associated with an increase in VO_(2peak) of 0.8 units(95%CI 0.4–1.2;p<0.001).There were no differences in the degree of increase between sexes(p=0.427).Conclusion:These findings suggest that an increase in PA in patients with CHD significantly improves their AC,and hence,could be recommended when the goal is to improve their physical condition.

Overcoming the barrier of nanoparticle production by femtosecond laser ablation in liquids using simultaneous spatial and temporal focusing

There exists an increasing demand of industrial-scale production of high-purity ligand-free nanoparticles due to the continuous development of biomedicine, catalysis, and energy applications. In this contribution, a simultaneous spatial and temporal focusing(SSTF) setup is first proposed for increasing nanoparticle productivity of the eco-friendly pulsed laser ablation in liquids(PLAL) technique. In spite of the fact that femtosecond pulses have proved to achieve higher ablation rates in air than picosecond pulses, in PLAL this is reversed due to the nonlinear energy losses in the liquid. However, thanks to the incorporation of SSTF, the energy delivered to the target is increased up to 70%, which leads to a nanoparticle production increase of a 2.4 factor. This breaks a barrier toward the employment of femtosecond lasers in high-efficiency PLAL.

Crystal and electronic structure study of the Li2Mn1-xNdxO3 battery cathode

Neodymium substituted Li2MnO3samples were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. The crystal and electronic structure properties of the prepared samples were investigated by x-ray based techniques. According to the analysis, it was determined that Nd atoms did not sit in to the Cr coordinations in Nd substituted samples and built up a different crystal structure. To support the analysis of the crystal structure study of the samples,electronic structure properties of the Nd substituted samples were studied via the collected data by x-ray absorption fine structure（XAFS） spectroscopy from the Mn K-edge. The results of the data analysis revealed that due to the misfit with the ionic radii and also the oxidation states, substituted neodymium atoms built up isolated crystal domains in Li8Mn5Nd18O39cubic crystal structure. The symmetry in Mn K-edge absorption data of the sample both in parent Li2MnO3and Nd substituted samples confirmed that Mn coordinations has not been influenced by the Nd substitution.
