Multispecies forests have received increased scientific attention,driven by the hypothesis that biodiversity improves ecological ***,a greater species diversity presents challenges for forest management and *** study aims to develop basal area growth models for tree species *** analysis is based on a dataset of 423 permanent plots(2,500 m^(2))located in temperate forests in Durango,***,we define tree species cohorts based on individual and neighborhood-based variables using a combination of principal component and cluster ***,we estimate the basal area increment of each cohort through the generalized additive model to describe the effect of tree size,competition,stand density and site *** principal component and cluster analyses assign a total of 37 tree species to eight cohorts that differed primarily with regard to the distribution of tree size and vertical position within the *** generalized additive models provide satisfactory estimates of tree growth for the species cohorts,explaining between 19 and 53 percent of the total variation of basal area increment,and highlight the following results:i)most cohorts show a"rise-and-fall"effect of tree size on tree growth;ii)surprisingly,the competition index"basal area of larger trees"had showed a positive effect in four of the eight cohorts;iii)stand density had a negative effect on basal area increment,though the effect was minor in medium-and high-density stands,and iv)basal area growth was positively correlated with site quality except for an oak *** developed species cohorts and growth models provide insight into their particular ecological features and growth patterns that may support the development of sustainable management strategies for temperate multispecies forests.

Synthetic dimensions(SDs) opened the door for exploring previously inaccessible phenomena in high-dimensional space. However, construction of synthetic lattices with desired coupling properties is a challenging and unintuitive task. Here, we use deep learning artificial neural networks(ANNs) to construct lattices in real space with a predesigned spectrum of mode eigenvalues, and thus to validly design the dynamics in synthetic mode dimensions. by employing judiciously chosen perturbations(wiggling of waveguides at desired frequencies), we show resonant mode coupling and tailored dynamics in SDs. Two distinct examples are illustrated: one features uniform synthetic mode coupling, and the other showcases the edge defects that allow for tailored light transport and confinement. Furthermore, we demonstrate morphing of light into a topologically protected edge mode with modified Su–Schrieffer–Heeger photonic lattices. Such an ANN-assisted construction of SDs may advance toward “utopian networks,” opening new avenues for fundamental research beyond geometric limitations as well as for applications in mode lasing,optical switching, and communication technologies.

In this study, a series of Gd^(3+)-doped mixed Ni-Cu-Zn ferrites with composition of Zn_(0.5)Ni_(0.3)Cu_(0.2)Fe_(2-x)Gd_(x)O_(4)(x = 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075, 0.1) was prepared using self-ignition sol-gel method. The prepared nanoparticles with an average size ranging from 22 to 26 nm show a single-phase cubic structure belonging to the spinel matrix. A rise in the Gd^(3+)concentration leads to an increase in crystallite size and lattice parameter. In Fourier transform infrared spectra, two main absorption bands belonging to the spinel structure are observed. The high-frequency bands(v_(1)) represent the tetrahedral complex, while the lowfrequency bands(v_(2)) signify the octahedral complex. The optical bandgap of the nanoferrites is found within the range of 2.91 to 2.41 eV, depending on their size. The magnetic characteristics of the material,such as saturation magnetization and coercivity are significantly altered with the concentration of Gd^(3+)in the solution. Using Rhodamine b(Rhb) as a model organic pollutant, an in-depth investigation of the photocatalytic activity of the compounds was carried out. The present outcomes show that adding an adequate amount of Gd^(3+)significantly enhances the number of hydroxyl radicals produced by the ferrite,in turn, increasing the photocatalytic activity of the material. Mechanism elucidated by scavenger studies reveals that ·OH and holes are the primary reactive radicals responsible for the degradation *** photocatalysts show an insignificant performance loss in five consecutive cycles. Thus, it is concluded that these photocatalysts are highly suitable for the remediation of dye-contaminated wastewater.

Gravity models given by higher-order scalar curvature corrections are believed to bear important consequences. Einstein-bel-Robinson (EbR) gravity with quartic curvature modification motivated Sajadi et al. to explore static spherically symmetric black hole solutions using perturbative methods. In this study, inspired by their work, we investigate AdS black hole shadows in EbR gravity and demonstrate how the gravity parameter alters the energy emission rate. Finally, we address the same problem in the presence of plasma, because the black holes are thought to be surrounded by a medium that changes the geodesic of photons.

With the increased interest of plants in space, gravity cannot be ignored when studying soil-plant-water relations. Therefore, it is important to understand the water relations of soils under zero gravity in space or under reduced gravity on the Moon or Mars. This paper outlines the problems of moving water in soils under zero gravity or microgravity, as well as growing plants in these soils. It is suggested that microgravity experiments could be done on Earth using both soils and plants. Results from such experiments could be used to grow plants when mankind establishes bases on the Moon and Mars.

We apply a zircon redox index to a global compilation of detrital zircons to track the variation of oxidation state,expressed asΔFMQ,through Earth's *** from I-type rocks,which comprise mantle and crustal igneous protoliths,including tonalite–trondhjemite–granodiorites(TTGs),generally have a high oxidation state(ΔFMQ>0).In contrast,zircons from igneous rocks derived from supracrustal source rocks(S-type)are commonly reduced(ΔFMQbability density function derived from the Gaussian-Kernel-Density-Estimation,we use the maximum likelihood estimation(MLE)to distinguish Stype from I-type zircons through Earth's history using zircon *** S-type magma production shows a ca.600 Ma cyclicity that is closely related to the supercontinent *** link a cyclic drop in redox values after 2.6 Ga to periodic S-type magma generation associated with burial and melting of metasedimentary rocks during supercontinent assembly and ***ΔFMQ of the detrital zircons rise at~3.5 Ga followed by a consistent averageΔFMQ>0 over the last 3 *** that the redox state of magmas is independent of crustal thickness and silica variation,and elevated values are likely more closely related to tectonic setting,we suggest that the consistent averageΔFMQ>0 from ca.3.5 Ga onwards relates to recycling of oceanic lithosphere back into the mantle in what eventually became established as subduction *** more reduced magmas associated with sedimentary sources,became established at 2.6 Ga,presumably in response to continental rocks rising above sealevel,and follow peaks of productivity associated with the supercontinent cycle.
