Diagnostic Performance of Serial bedside Capillary Lactate, Hemoglobin, and Shock Index for Severe Postpartum

Objective: To assess the diagnostic capacity of bedside capillary lactate (CLact), capillary Haemoglobin (CHb), and shock index (SI) for severe postpartum haemorrhage (SPPH > 2000 ml) at diagnosis, 15 minutes and 30 minutes later. Method: A cohort study was carried out in a reference hospital in San Luis Potosi, Mexico from February 2020 to March 2021, and included sixty women in vaginal labor or c-section who presented PPH (≥500 ml in labor or ≥1000 ml in c-section) measured by the gravimetric method. CLact, SI, and CHb concentrations were analyzed at diagnosis of PPH, 15 minutes, and 30 minutes. Patients who presented total blood loss of >2000 ml were considered SPPH. A T-test or Wilcox test was performed to compare the groups of non-severe and severe. Sensitivity, specificity, and performance were calculated by A Receiver Operating Curve. Results: A CLact measurement at 30 minutes was significantly different between the non-severe and severe groups (4.0 + 1.9 vs 4.8 + 1.15 P-value 0.001, with an optimal cut point of 4.3 mmol/dl at AUC 0.75, sensitivity 0.85, and specificity of 0.62. With a cut-point of 1.17, an AUC of 0.76, sensitivity of 0.43, and specificity of 0.98, SI at diagnosis was significantly different between the non-severe and severe groups (0.70 + 0.20 vs. 0.90 + 0.38 P-value 0.0228). Conclusion: SI is an early sign of SPPH;CLact can significantly identify SPPH after 30 minutes.

Oxidative desulfurization of diesel fuel oil using supported Fenton catalysts and assisted with ultrasonic energy

An ultrasound-assisted heterogeneous catalytic oxidation process was applied to eliminate sulfur from commercial diesel fuel *** studied variables were catalyst concentration,type of catalyst(homogeneous or heterogeneous),oxidizing agent concentration,and the application of ultrasound *** catalysts were prepared by impregnation of coal fly ash with an iron(Ⅱ)sulfate aqueous solution using ultrasound *** drying,the catalyst was calcined at 500℃for 4 *** oxidizing agent was hydrogen *** energy was applied with a frequency of 47 kHz and an intensity of 147 *** was employed for extracting the oxidized compounds from the hydrocarbon *** fly ash and ethanol were used with the purpose of applying low-cost raw materials in chemical *** was found that under the studied conditions,increasing oxidizing agent concentration and the application of ultrasound energy can enhance the sulfur removal from commercial diesel fuel *** concentration did not play a significant role in the *** results were obtained using homogeneous or heterogeneous catalyst,which is important since the heterogeneous catalyst could be recovered,reactivated,and used in many cycles.

The primary goal in the analysis of hierarchical distributed monitoring and control architectures is to study the spatiotemporal patterns of the interactions between areas or *** this paper,a novel conceptual framework for distributed monitoring of power system oscillations using multiblock principal component analysis(MB-PCA)and higher-order singular value decomposition(HOSVD)is proposed to understand,characterize,and visualize the global behavior of the power *** proposed framework can be used to evaluate the influence of a given area or utility on the oscillatory behavior,uncover low-dimensional structures from high-dimensional data,and analyze the effects of heterogeneous data on the modal characteristics and interpretation of power *** metrics are then investigated to examine the relationships between the dynamic patterns and participation of individual data blocks in the global behavior of the *** application of these techniques is demonstrated by case studies of two systems:a 14-machine test system and a 5449-bus 635-generator equivalent model of a large power system.

In existing references,authors and companies have defined the maintenance variables over time;it is found that in some cases there are traditions,incorrect postulates or the inappropriate use of terminology,which leads to a misinterpretation of the results when maintenance management is *** from a documentary and deductive methodology,in this article,the analysis of some authors is presented and,from its origin,the initial variables that allow the construction of adequate algorithms for the maintenance function and to obtain the correct information related to it are *** a simple way with mathematical models,to then apply statistical models which allows,subsequently,calculating the maintenance information and achieving that professionals,professors and students are incorporated into maintenance analysis processes with a higher cognitive level,producing continuous information and comprehensive to analyze and investigate industrial equipment based on a basic history.

Emerging melt quality control solution technologies for aluminium melt

The newly developed ＂MTS 1500＂ Melt Treatment System is performing the specifically required melt treatment operations like degassing, cleaning, modification and/or grain refinement by an automated process in one step and at the same location. This linked process is saving time, energy and metal losses allowing - by automated dosage of the melt treatment agents - the production of a consistent melt quality batch after batch. By linking the MTS Metal Treatment System with sensors operating on-line in the melt, i.e., with a hydrogen sensor ＂Alspek H＂, a fully automated control of parts of the process chain like degassing is possible. This technology does guarantee a pre-specified and documented melt quality in each melt treatment batch. Furthermore, to ensure that castings are consistent and predictable there is a growing realization that cdtical parameters such as metal cleanliness must be measured prior to casting. There exists accepted methods for measuring the cleanliness of an aluminum melt but these can be both slow and costly. A simple, rapid and meaningful method of measuring and bench marking the cleanliness of an aluminum melt has been developed to offer the foundry a practical method of measuring melt cleanliness. This paper shows the structure and performance of the integrated MTS melt treatment process and documents achieved melt quality standards after degassing, cleaning, modification and grain refinement operations under real foundry conditions. It also provides an insight on a melt cleanliness measuring device ＂Alspek MQ＂ to provide foundry men better tools in meeting the increasing quality and tighter specification demand from the industry.

Evaluation of Multiple-Use Cover Crops under Rainfed during Two Seasons in Yucatan, Mexico

The aim of the study was assessing seven legumes as cover crops during cropping seasons of the years 2000 and 2001 in the central region of the Yucatan. An experimental design of randomized blocks with arrangement of split plots was used;where treatment was the legume, and sub-treatment, was the management of defoliation, 90 days after sowing (DAS) or after harvesting the grain (AHG). Treatments were: short-cycle seed white lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus), long-cycle seed white lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus), cowpea (Vigna unguiculata), dwarf velvet bean (Mucuna pruriens var. utilis), ash velvet bean (Mucuna pruriens var. utilis), sword bean (Canavalia ensiformis) and red rice bean (Vigna umbellata). It was collected data on coverage and biomass production, grain, leaf litter and stubble yields, biomass and relative frequency of weeds, pH, total nitrogen, organic matter (OM), potential anaerobic mineralization of nitrogen (MPAN) and soil CO2 evolution. Coverage varied from 70% to 90%;and biomass from 1900 to 2500 kg·DM·ha-1 at 90 DAS in ash velvet bean (AVB) and sword bean (SB). Stubble yielded from 800 to 2200 kg·DM·ha-1. The SB reached ~3200 kg·DM·ha-1 of grain yield in the first cropping season and it was reduced in the second cropping season. AVB and SB reduced the biomass of weeds from 890 to 780 kg·DM·ha-1. The OM of soil reached 14.9% in AVB. NH4, pH, and soil CO2 evolution remained without significant changes by effect of legumes.

Ifirst met Dr. Andrew V Schally （PhD, MDhc （Multi）, DSc, Distinguished Medical Research Scientist, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Professor of Pathology and Department of Medicine, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, Miami, Florida, USA） many years ago, probably around the beginning of the 1990＇s in one of his visits to Mexico City （Figure 1）. He has many friends in my country since some of the investigations that led to the development of the LHRH agonists were made in a couple of Mexican hospitals in collaboration with some outstanding Mexican physicians that I will mention later. In that time, I was the head of the Department of Urology of the Mexican National Cancer Institute and our Director, Dr. Jaime de la Garza, invited him for a meeting. I was surprised by his humbleness, intelligence and easy going personality, in spite of being a Nobel Prize scientist.

An Approach to Design MIMO FO Controllers for Unstable Nonlinear Plants

This paper develops an approach to control unstable nonlinear multi-inputs multi-output(MIMO) square plants using MIMO fractional order(FO) controllers. The controller design uses the linear time invariant(LTI) state space representation of the nonlinear model of the plant and the diagonal closedloop transfer matrix(TM) function to ensure decoupling between inputs. Each element of the obtained MIMO controller could be either a transfer function(TF) or a gain. A TF is associated in turn with its corresponding FO TF. For example, a D(Derivative) TF is related to a FO TF of the form Dδ, δ =[0, 1]. Two applications were performed to validate the developed approach via experimentation: control of the angular positions of a manipulator, and control of the car and arm positions of a translational manipulator.

Usability perceptions and beliefs about smart thermostats by chi-square test, signal detection theory, and fuzzy detection theory in regions of Mexico

It is well known that smart thermostats (STs) have become key devices in the implementation of smart homes;thus, they are considered as primary elements for the control of electrical energy consumption in households. Moreover, energy consumption is drastically affected when the end users select unsuitable STs or when they do not use the STs correctly. Furthermore, in future, Mexico will face serious electrical energy challenges that can be considerably resolved if the end users operate the STs in a correct manner. Hence, it is important to carry out an in-depth study and analysis on thermostats, by focusing on social aspects that influence the technological use and performance of the thermostats. This paper proposes the use of a signal detection theory (SDT), fuzzy detection theory (FDT), and chi-square (CS) test in order to understand the perceptions and beliefs of end users about the use of STs in Mexico. This paper extensively shows the perceptions and beliefs about the selected thermostats in Mexico. Besides, it presents an in-depth discussion on the cognitive perceptions and beliefs of end users. Moreover, it shows why the expectations of the end users about STs are not met. It also promotes the technological and social development of STs such that they are relatively more accepted in complex electrical grids such as smart grids.
