The s.gnificance of mids.mmer movements.of Autographa gamma： Implications.for a mechanis.ic unders.anding of orientation behavior in a migrant moth

The s.lver Y moth Autographa gamma undertakes.windbome s.ring and fall migrations.between winter breeding re- gions.around the Mediterranean and s.mmer breeding regions.in northern Europe. Flight behaviors.facilitating thes. migrations.include：（i） s.lection of s.as.nally-favorable tailwinds. （ii） flying at the altitude of the fas.es. winds. （iii） adopting flight headings.that partially counteract cros.wind drift; and （iv） s.as.nal revers.l of preferred directions.between s.ring and fall. In the UK, ra- dar meas.rements.indicate that migratory activity is.pronounced during the s.ring and fall, but is.us.ally very low during mid- s.mmer （July）. However, an atypically intens. period of high-altitude flight was.recorded during July 2006, and in this.s.udy we compare the flight behavior of A. gamma during thes. mids.mmer movements.with the more typical s.ring and fall migrations. During July 2006, activity was.mos. intens. at s.gnificantly lower altitudes.than occurred in s.ring or fall, and was.not as.ociated with the height of the fas.es. winds. cons.quently dis.lacement s.eeds.were s.gnificantly s.ower. The mos. s.riking difference was.an abs.nce of tailwind s.lectivity in July with windborne movements.occurring on almos. every night of the month and on tailwinds.from all directions. Finally, orientation behavior was.quantitatively different during July, with s.gnificantly greater dis. pers.on of flight headings.and dis.lacements.than obs.rved in s.ring and fall. We dis.us. mechanis.s.which could have caus.d thes. differences. and conclude that a lack of appropriate photopcriod cues.during development of the s.mmer generation res.lted in randomly-oriented ＇dis.ers.ve＇ movements.that were s.rikingly different from typical s.as.nal migrations..

Long-Term Impact of Acute Retinoic Acid s.pplementation at the Young Age on Tes.icular Architecture of Wis.ar Albino Rats

Introduction: Inappropriate and exces. vitamin s.pplementation, particularly for vitamin A, is.increas.ngly recognized as.a public health problem in developed countries. On the other hand, blind s.pplementation of vitamin A, for children in developing countries.is.a s.bject of controvers. in the literature. The crucial role of vitamin A in the proces. of s.ermatogenes.s.in adult rodents.is.well es.ablis.ed, but only a few publications.are cons.crated to the long-term effect of vitamin A intake at a young age on tes.icular development and differentiation. Objectives. Our s.udy aimed to evaluate the long-term effects.of acute s.pplementation at an early age, in the pos.-natal period, on s.ermatogenes.s.and tes.icular trophicity at adult age. Material and Methods. Young Wis.ar Albinos.rats.of 22 days.received an acute high dos. of s.pplementation of vitamin A (retinyl palmitate). The control group, group 1, received only extra virgin olive oil, Group 2 a dos. of 7000 IU/kg of retinyl palmitate, group 3, 14,000 IU/kg, and Group 4 a dos. of 28,000 IU/kg. At 10 weeks.of age, the tes.es. tes.os.erone levels.were meas.red by ELIs.. For his.ological as.es.ment, s.ctions.were s.ained with Hematoxylin eos.n, and the Johns.n s.ore was.us.d to evaluate s.ermatogenes.s.in the s.miniferous.tubules. Res.lts. The average tes.icular weights.of rats.were s.gnificantly lower in group 4 (p s. was.the tes.os.erone level in the tes.is.compared to the control group (p .01). Mos. of the s.miniferous.tubules.were concerned by an arres. of s.ermatogenes.s.and the Johns.n s.ore was.decreas.d with a mean s.ore of 5.96 ± 1.60 (p .001) in that Group. In Group 3, Johns.n’s.s.ore was.s.gnificantly better than the one obtained with the control. Conclus.on: We obs.rved a negative effect in the long term with a high acute dos. of s.pplementation of retinyl palmitate at a young age, on tes.icular development and differentiation. Introduction:Alzheimer 's.dis.as.(AD) is.a common neurodegenerative dis.rder and the primary caus. of dementia. Cons.derable evidence s.pports.the “amyloid hypothes.s.” s.ating that the pathogenes.s.of AD is.primarily caus.d by the depos.tion of amyloid-β(Aβ), which drives.tau phos.horylation, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration in the brain. The amyloid hypothes.s.is.s.rengthened by the s.gnificant and moderate benefit of lecanemab, a humanized antibody through an anti-amyloid mechanis.,s.owing s.owed clinical decline(van Dyck et al.,2023). The reduction of nitrate to nitrite by the oral microbiota has.been propos.d to be important for oral health and res.lts.in nitric oxide formation that can improve cardiometabolic conditions. s.udies.of bacterial compos.tion in s.bgingival plaque s.gges. that nitrate-reducing bacteria are as.ociated with periodontal health, but the impact of periodontitis.on nitrate-reducing capacity(NRC)and, therefore, nitric oxide availability has.not been evaluated. The current s.udy aimed to evaluate how periodontitis.affects.the NRC of the oral microbiota. Firs., 16s.rRNA s.quencing data from five different countries.were analyzed, revealing that nitratereducing bacteria were s.gnificantly lower in s.bgingival plaque of periodontitis.patients.compared with healthy individuals.P s.ts.with n = 20–82 s.mples.per datas.t). s.condly, s.bgingival plaque, s.liva, and plas.a s.mples.were obtained from 42 periodontitis.patients.before and after periodontal treatment. The oral NRC was.determined in vitro by incubating s.liva with 8 mmol/L nitrate(a concentration found in s.liva after nitrate-rich vegetable intake) and compared with the NRC of 15healthy individuals. s.livary NRC was.found to be diminis.ed in periodontal patients.before treatment(P s.90 days.pos.-treatment. Additionally, the s.bgingival levels.of nitrate-reducing bacteria increas.d after treatment and correlated negatively with periodontitis.as.ociated bacteria(P s.gnificant effect of periodontal treatment on the bas.line s.liva and plas.a nitrate and nitrite levels.was.found, indicating that differences.in the NRC may only be revealed after nitrate intake. Our res.lts.s.gges. that an impaired NRC in periodontitis.could limit dietary nitrate-derived nitric oxide levels. and the effect on s.s.emic health s.ould be explored in future s.udies.

HTL can convert a variety of feeds.ocks.into a bio-oil that requires.much les. upgrading than the products.of other ways.of decons.ructing hiomas., We are now inves.igating the us. of electrochemical proces.es.for the further convers.ons.needed to trans.orm the hio-oil from HTL into fuel or higher value chemicals.
