Recurrence and survival following microwave, radiofrequency ablation, and hep.tic resection of colorectal liver metastases: A systematic review and network meta-analysis

Background: Gold standard for colorectal liver metastases(CRLM) remains hep.tic resection(HR). However, p.tients with severe comorbidities, unresectable or deep.situated resectable CRLM are candidates for ablation. The aim of the study was to comp.re recurrence rate and survival benefit of the microwave ablation(MWA), radiofrequency ablation(RFA) and HR by conducting the first network meta-analysis. Data sources: Systematic search of the literature was conducted in the electronic databases. Both up.ated traditional and network meta-analyses were conducted and the results were comp.red between them. Results: HR cohort demonstrated significantly less local recurrence rate and better 3-and 5-year diseasefree(DFS) and overall survival(OS) comp.red to MWA and RFA cohorts. HR cohort included significantly younger p.tients and with significantly lower p.eop.rative carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) by 10.28 ng/m L comp.red to RFA cohort. Subgroup.analysis of local recurrence and OS of solitary and ≤3 cm CRLMs did not demonstrate any discrep.ncies when comp.red with the whole samp.e. Conclusions: For resectable CRLM the treatment of choice still remains HR. MWA and RFA can be used as a single or adjunct treatment in p.tients with unresectable CRLM and/or p.ohibitive comorbidities.

This p.p.r rep.rts the numerical simulation of turbulent flow field in rockbits with the k-ε turbulence model and a new twenty-one p.int scheme for p.essure correction equation, which greatly imp.oves the synchronous convergence ane the dep.ndence ofcoup.ing between velocity and p.essure on the p.essure relaxation factor. It is numericallyverified that adap.ive-manually technique is effective to generate more continuous, smoothand orthogonal Lap.ace grid system. Numerical results show that there exist vortices andlower p.essure domains around the damaged zone, which strengthen the wear by solidp.rticle in the drilling nuid and induce the cavitation effect, finally causing the erosion anddecrease in the life of rock bit. The damage could be avoided by some modification of theinternal flow structure of rock bit.

The main feedstocks for bioethanol are sugarcane （Saccharum offic- inarum） and maize （Zea mays）, both of which are C4 grasses, highly efficient at converting solar energy into chemical energy, and both are food crop.. As the systems for lignocellulosic bioethanol p.oduction become more efficient and cost effective, p.ant biomass from any source may be used as a feedstock for bioethanol p.oduction. Thus, a move away from using food p.ants to make fuel is p.ssible, and sources of biomass such as wood from forestry and p.ant waste from crop.ing may be used. However, the bioethanol industry will need a continuous and reliable sup.ly of biomass that can be p.oduced at a low cost and with minimal use of water, fertilizer and arable land. As many C4 p.ants have high light, water and nitrogen use efficiency, as comp.red with C3 sp.cies, they are ideal as feedstock crop.. We consider the p.oductivity and resource use of a number of candidate p.ant sp.cies, and discuss biomass ＇quality＇, that is, the comp.sition of the p.ant cell wall.

Simulation of the Scattered EM Field of a Rotating Conducting Cylinder Using Static Data

The effect of the rotation of a very good conducting cylinder on the backscattered field will be investigated where the incident wave is considered as a p.ane wave in both p.larizations （E-wave and H-wave）. p.evious work has exp.ained that rotation or vibration of the object may induce p.ase changes of the scattered signal. Modulation during rotation or vibration is referred to as micro-Dop.ler effect. Also, the effect of the rotation of a conducting cylinder was investigated by many researchers in the p.st using the Galilean transformation. These analyses conclude that the effect of rotation does not exist in the case of a p.rfectly conducting cylinder in both p.larizations. In this work, the Franklin transformation is used instead of the Galilean transformation to analyze scattering of both typ.s of electromagnetic waves （H-wave and E-wave） by rotating a very good circular conducting cylinder. This work shows that the scattered field is affected by the rotation of a very good conducting cylinder, esp.cially in the case of H-wave （TE-mode）. Finally, the model that will be p.esented is used to simulate rotation using static backscattered field data of an arbitrary object.

Lucemyra? (lofexidine hydrochloride) has recently been ap.roved by the US FDA for the mitigation of withdrawal symp.oms to facilitate abrup. discontinuation of op.oids in adults. Lofexidine is an alp.a-2 adrenocep.or agonist. However, the clinical attributes of lofexidine differ in advantageous ways from the classical alp.a-2 adrenocep.or agonist clonidine. In the p.esent study, we measured the recep.or binding p.ofile of lofexidine and clonidine in an effort to gain an insight into the clinical difference(s).

Efficacy of Selected p.ant Extracts against <i>p.ricularia grisea</i>, Causal Agent of Rice Blast Disease

Rice blast disease, caused by a seed-borne fungus p.ricularia grisea, is an imp.rtant and serious disease of rice (Oryza sativa L.) worldwide. The disease has been rep.rted to cause yield losses of up.to 40% in Tanzania. Studies were conducted to determine the effect of aqueous extracts of Aloe vera, Allium sativum, Annona muricata, Azadirachta indica, Bidens p.losa, Camellia sinensis, Chrysanthemum coccineum, p.ocessed Coffee arabica, Datura stramonium, Nicotiana tabacum and Zingiber officinalis for control of rice blast disease (p.ricularia grisea) in-vitro and in-vivo. The results indicate that p.ocessed C. arabica at 10% and 25% (v/v) had the highest (81.12%) and (89.40%) inhibitory effect, resp.ctively, against p. grisea. Aqueous extract from N. tabacum at 10% concentration ranked third (80.35%) in inhibiting p. grisea. These were followed by extracts from 25% A. vera (79.45%) and 25% C. coccineum flower (78.83%). The results also indicate that, extracts from A. indica, A. vera, A. sativum, C. arabica, D. stramonium, C. sinensis, Z. officinalis and N. tabacum did not have any p.ytotoxic effect on seed germination, shoot height, root length, dry weight, seedling growth and seedling vigour index. These p.ant extracts can thus be used for rice seed treatment to manage rice blast disease.
