This study investigates the potential of contem.orary Earth-Sheltered Buildings to contribute to sustainable societies by achieving Plus Energy Building status during the heating *** buildings analyzed are intended to house a four-m.m.er fam.ly(102.5 m.(2)).The house is equipped with a ground source heat pum.,geotherm.l vertical probes,floor heating panels,an energy recovery ventilator,and building-integrated photovoltaic panels installed on the exposed building *** num.rical analysis(using EnergyPlus software)was carried out for nine European sites covering five different clim.tic zones(nam.ly:southern,Atlantic,continental,alpine,and northern clim.te)and three latitude belts spanning Europe from.south to *** above 65°N(northern and alpine clim.te)could not achieve Plus Energy status with 20% efficient *** 15% efficient BIPVs,the building above 59°N(northern clim.te)was incapable of achieving this as *** the m.nthly tim. step,the buildings in the southern and Atlantic clim.tes with 15% efficient BiPVs were able to produce an energy surplus every m.nth,as was the building in theAlps with 20% efficientBIPVs.

BACKGROUND Prim.ry thum. carpom.tacarpal(Cm.)osteoarthritis is one of the m.st com.on conditions encountered by hand *** the vast num.er of operations that have been proposed,none have dem.nstrated results significantly superior to trapeziectom. *** The purpose of our study was to determ.ne why surgeons opt for their technique in treating Cm. *** A cross-sectional survey of active m.m.ers of the Am.rican Society for Surgery of the Hand was conducted to evaluate the reasons behind their preferred technique in the treatm.nt of isolated thum. Paddy fields play an im.ortant role in global carbon(C) cycling and are an im.ortant source of m.thane(CH_(4)) em.ssions. Insights into the processes influencing the dynam.cs of soil organic C(SOC) in paddy fields are essential for m.intaining global soil C stocks and m.tigating clim.te change. Periphytic biofilm. com.osed of m.croalgae, bacteria, and other m.croorganism. are ubiquitous in paddy fields, where they directly m.diate the transfer of elem.nts at the soil-water interface. However, their contributions to C turnover and exchange have been largely neglected. Periphytic biofilm. affect and participate in soil C dynam.cs by altering both abiotic(e.g., pH and redox potential) and biotic conditions(e.g., m.crobial com.unity com.osition and m.tabolism.. This review sum.arizes the contributions of periphytic biofilm. to soil C cycling processes, including carbon dioxide fixation, SOC m.neralization, and CH_(4) em.ssions. Future research should be focused on: i) the m.chanism. underlying periphytic biofilm.induced C fixation and turnover and ii) quantifying the contributions of periphytic biofilm. to soil C uptake, stabilization, and sequestration in paddy fields.

Two well-preserved petrified palm.stem. from.the latest m.astrichtian(Late Cretaceous) to earliest Danian(Early Paleocene) sedim.nts of the Deccan Intertrappean Beds of m.dhya Pradesh, Central India are described. Their significant anatom.cal characteristics include a Calam.s-type general stem.pattern,the presence of well-preserved fibrovascular bundles(fvbs) with two wide m.taxylem.vessel elem.nts(230 μm.250 μm. and one phloem.strand, uniform.density of fvbs, lack of continuity between protoxylem.and m.taxylem.vessel elem.nts, and an absence of centrifugal differentiation of sclerenchym.tous fibrous *** features reveal a close resem.lance to those of extant genera of scandent Calam.ideae. The perm.neralized stem. are described as a new species nam.ly, Palm.xylon calam.ides Kum.r, Roy et Khan sp. *** fossils represent the oldest reliable fossil records of this fam.ly, supporting their Gondwanan origin, their im.ortance in tracing their m.gration pathways from.India to Europe and other continents after the docking of the Indian subcontinent with Eurasia during the Paleocene, and an “Out-of-India” dispersal hypothesis. Today the subfam.ly Calam.ideae is disjunctly occurred in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and South Am.rica, but the poor deep-tim. fossil record of this subfam.ly with a sm.ll num.er of Cenozoic fossils m.kes hypotheses concerning its origin and dispersal difficult to evaluate. The present study has significant im.lications for the origin and m.gration of this subfam.ly and the paleoclim.te.

Introduction:Alzheim.r 's disease(AD) is a com.on neurodegenerative disorder and the prim.ry cause of dem.ntia. Considerable evidence supports the “am.loid hypothesis,” stating that the pathogenesis of AD is prim.rily caused by the deposition of am.loid-β(Aβ), which drives tau phosphorylation, neuroinflam.ation, and neurodegeneration in the brain. The am.loid hypothesis is strengthened by the significant and m.derate benefit of lecanem.b, a hum.nized antibody through an anti-am.loid m.chanism.showing slowed clinical decline(van Dyck et al.,2023). The recent positive results of anti-am.loid trials have brought back focus on the am.loid hypothesis through biochem.cal, genetic, and pharm.cological approaches(Zhang, 2023).

Abandoned chem.cal sm.lting sites containing toxic substances can seriously threaten and pose a risk to the surrounding ecological *** sam.les were collected from.different depths(0 to 13 m.and analyzed for m.tal(loid)s content and fractionation,as well as m.crobial *** potential ecological risk indices for the different soil depths(ordered from.high to low)were:1 m.D-1)>surface(S-0)>5 m.D-5)>13 m.D-13)>9 m.D-9),ranging between 1840.65-13,089.62,and representing extrem.ly high environm.ntal risks,of which Cd(and probably not arsenic)contributed to the highest environm.ntal risk.A m.dified com.ined pollution risk index(m.R)com.ining total content and m.bile proportion of m.tal(loid)s,and relative toxicities,was used to evaluate the degree of contam.nation and potential environm.ntal *** the near-surface sam.les(S-0 and D-1 layers),the m.R considered that As,Cd,Pb,Sb,and Zn achieved high and alarm.ng degrees of contam.nation,whereas Fe,m.,and Ti were negligible or low to m.derate pollution *** m.crocalorim.try and enzym.tic activity m.asurem.nts of contam.nated soil sam.les were used to assess the m.crobial m.tabolic activity *** analysis elucidated the relationship between m.tal(loid)s exchangeable fraction or content and m.crobial activity characteristics(pm.crobial m.tabolic activity in the D-1 layer was low presum.bly due to heavy m.tal *** activity indicators and m.crocalorim.tric growth rate(k)m.asurem.nts were considered sensitive indicators to reflect the soil m.crobial activities in abandoned chem.cal sm.lting sites.

Various sectors of the industry are searching for new m.terials with specific requirem.nts,providing im.roved *** study presents novel com.osite m.terials based on polylactide that have been m.dified with the organosilicon com.ound,(3-thiopropyl)polysilsesquioxane(SSQ-SH).The SSQ-SH com.ound is a m.xture of cage structures and not fully condensed random.*** com.osite m.terials were obtained through injection *** study includes a com.rehensive characterization of the new m.terials that analyze their functional properties,such as rheology(m.R),m.chanical strength(tensile strength,Charpy im.act strength),and therm.l *** m.croscopic photos were also taken to analyze the m.crostructure of the *** addition of a 5%by-weight organosilicon com.ound to polylactide resulted in a significant increase in m.R by 73.8%com.ared to the neat *** greatest im.rovem.nt in im.act strength was achieved for the 5%SSQ-SH/PLA com.osite,increasing it by 32.0 kJ/m.(2)com.ared to PLA,which represents an increase of up to 187%.The conducted research confirm. the possibility of m.difying the properties of the polym.r by em.loying organosilicon com.ounds.
