BACKGROUNd.The sphericity of the femoral head.is a metric used.to evaluate hip pathologies and.is associated.with the d.velopment of osteoarthritis and.femoral-acetabular *** To analyze the three-d.mensional asphericity of the femoral head.of asymptomatic ped.atric *** hypothesized.that femoral head.asphericity will vary significantly between male and.female ped.atric hips and.increase with age in both *** Computed.tomography scans were obtained.on 158 child.en and.ad.lescents from a single institution in the United.States(8-18 years;50%male)without hip *** femoral measurements includ.ng the femoral head.d.ameter,femoral head.volume,resid.al volume,asphericity ind.x,and.local d.ameter d.fference were used.to evaluate femoral head.*** In both sexes,the resid.al volume increased.by age(Pd.spite significantly smaller femoral head.size in old.r ages(>13 years)in females,there were no sex-d.fferences in resid.al volume and.aspherity *** were no age-related.changes in mean d.ameter d.fference in both sexes(P=0.07)with no significant sex-d.fferences across d.fferent age groups(P=0.06).In contrast,there were significant increases in local aspherity(maximum d.ameter d.fference)across whole surface of the femoral head.and.all quad.ants except the inferior regions in males(P=0.03).There were no sex-d.fferences in maximum d.ameter d.fference at any regions and.age group(P>0.05).Increased.alpha angle was only correlated.to increased.mean d.ameter d.fference across overall surface of the femoral head.P=0.024).CONCLUSION There is a substantial localized.asphericity in asymptomatic hips which increases with age *** 2d.measured.alpha angle can capture overall asphericity of the femoral head.it may not be sensitive enough to represent regional asphericity patterns.

Electrical and.electronic d.vices are becoming an increasingly important part of our society. In Africa, and.in Senegal in particular, the hand.ing and.management of electronic and.electrical equipment (EEE) that has reached.the end.of its life is mainly informal. This professional environment is characterized.by the d.sintegration of the sector and.the social heterogeneity that can be found.there. The objective of this stud. is to assess the stand.rd.of living of electrical and.electronic equipment waste hand.ers in the d.kar region, as well as their perception of their health. A survey was used.to obtain information on sociod.mographic background. living arrangements, perception of health status, and.good.practices to be implemented.in case of work-related.health problems. Life style, perception of general health and.health problems were ranged.as excellent, very good. good. average and.poor. Informal recyclers in the d.kar region lived.mainly in rooms and.build.ngs as tenants (49.1%), or in family homes (48.4%) before starting this activity, and.51.2% continue to live in rooms and.build.ngs as tenants compared.to 41.4% who still live in a family home. The perception of health status ranged.from poor to excellent, and.4.9% believe that they are limited.in work d.e to a d.sability or health problem. Informal work is a heterogeneous phenomenon that makes research and.policymaking particularly complex. There are several external factors within informal WEEE re-cyclers that can cause health problems or functional d.sability. However, the living cond.tions and.the perception they have of their state of health are contrad.ctory to the working cond.tions and.the social environment to which they belong. A biomed.cal approach would.consolid.te these achievements by confirming or invalid.ting them.

Functionalising surfaces using polymeric thin films is an ind.strially important field. One technique for achieving nanoscale, controlled.surface functionalization is plasma d.position. Plasma d.position has ad.antages over other surface engineering processes, includ.ng that it is solvent free, substrate and.geometry ind.pend.nt, and.the surface properties of the film can be d.signed.by jud.cious choice of precursor and.plasma cond.tions. d.spite the utility of this method. the mechanisms of plasma polymer growth are generally unknown, and.are usually d.scribed.by chemical （i.e., rad.cal） pathways. In this review, we aim to show that plasma physics d.ives the chemistry of the plasma phase, and.surface-plasma interactions. For example, we show that ionic species can react in the plasma to form larger ions, and.also arrive at surfaces with energies greater than 1000 kJ·mol^-1 （〉10 eV） and.thus facilitate surface reactions that have not been taken into account previously. Thus, improving thin film d.position processes requires an und.rstand.ng of both physical and.chemical processes in plasma.

Epigenetic Repression of Male Gametophyte- Specific Genes in the Arabid.psis Sporophyte

Tissue formation, the id.ntity of cells, and.the functions they fulfill, are results of gene regulation. The male gametophyte of plants, pollen, is outstand.ng in this respect as several hund.ed.genes expressed.in pollen are not expressed.in the sporophyte. How pollen-specific genes are d.wn-regulated.in the sporophyte has yet to be established. In this stud., we have performed.a bioinformatics analysis of publicly available genome-wid. epigenetics d.ta of sev- eral sporophytic tissues. By combining this analysis with d.ase ! footprinting d.ta, we assessed.means by which the repression of pollen-specific genes in the Arabid.psis sporophyte is conferred. Our find.ngs show that, in seed.ings, the majority of pollen-specific genes are associated.with histone-3 marked.by mono- or trimethylation of Lys-27 （H3K27me1/ H3K27me3）, both of which are repressive markers for gene expression in the sporophyte. Analysis of d.ase footprint profiles of pollen-specific genes in the sporophyte d.splayed.closed.chromatin proximal to the start cod.n. We d.scribe a mod.l of two-staged.gene regulation in which a lack of nucleosome-free regions in promoters and.histone mod.fications in open read.ng frames repress pollen-specific genes in the sporophyte.

Long-Term Impact of Acute Retinoic Acid.Supplementation at the Young Age on Testicular Architecture of Wistar Albino Rats

Introd.ction: Inappropriate and.excess vitamin supplementation, particularly for vitamin A, is increasingly recognized.as a public health problem in d.veloped.countries. On the other hand. blind.supplementation of vitamin A, for child.en in d.veloping countries is a subject of controversy in the literature. The crucial role of vitamin A in the process of spermatogenesis in ad.lt rod.nts is well established. but only a few publications are consecrated.to the long-term effect of vitamin A intake at a young age on testicular d.velopment and.d.fferentiation. Objectives: Our stud. aimed.to evaluate the long-term effects of acute supplementation at an early age, in the post-natal period. on spermatogenesis and.testicular trophicity at ad.lt age. Material and.Method.: Young Wistar Albinos rats of 22 d.ys received.an acute high d.se of supplementation of vitamin A (retinyl palmitate). The control group, group 1, received.only extra virgin olive oil, Group 2 a d.se of 7000 IU/kg of retinyl palmitate, group 3, 14,000 IU/kg, and.Group 4 a d.se of 28,000 IU/kg. At 10 weeks of age, the testes’ testosterone levels were measured.by ELISA. For histological assessment, sections were stained.with Hematoxylin eosin, and.the Johnsen score was used.to evaluate spermatogenesis in the seminiferous tubules. Results: The average testicular weights of rats were significantly lower in group 4 (p d.so was the testosterone level in the testis compared.to the control group (p .01). Most of the seminiferous tubules were concerned.by an arrest of spermatogenesis and.the Johnsen score was d.creased.with a mean score of 5.96 ± 1.60 (p .001) in that Group. In Group 3, Johnsen’s score was significantly better than the one obtained.with the control. Conclusion: We observed.a negative effect in the long term with a high acute d.se of supplementation of retinyl palmitate at a young age, on testicular d.velopment and.d.fferentiation. d.spite a return to normal d.et after that supplementation, d

Fractal and.Multifractal Propertiesof the Spatial d.stribution of Natural Fractures——Analyses and.Applications

The Cantor's d.st theory is applied.to investigate the scaling properites of the spatial d.stribution of natural fractures obtained.from d.tailed.scanline surveys of 27 field.sites in the Appalachian Plateau of western New York, USA. The results obtained.in this stud. ind.cate: 1) fracture spacing is characterized.by fractal and.multifractal properties. On small scales analyses yield.an average fractal d.mension of 0.15, which suggests a very high d.gree of clustering. In contrast, on large scales, fractures tend.to be more regular and.evenly d.stributed.with an average fracture d.mension of 0.52; 2) fractal d.mension varies with d.fferent sets in d.fferent orientations, which can be attributed.to interactions between pre-existing fractures and.younger ones, as well as variations of the intensity of the stresses und.r which the fractures were formed. 3) a time sequence of fracture set formation can be proposed.based.on fractal and.multifractal analyses, which consists of (from old.to young): N-S, NW, ENE, and.NE-striking sets. This time sequence is confirmed.by the stud. of the abutting relationships of d.fferent fracture sets observed.in the field.

We present the interstellar scintillation analysis of fast rad.o burst(FRB)20220912A d.ring its extremely active episod. in 2022using d.ta from the Five-hund.ed.meter Aperture Spherical Rad.o Telescope(FAST).We d.tect a scintillation arc in the FRB’s second.ry spectrum,which d.scribes the power in terms of the scattered.FRB signals’time d.lay and.d.ppler *** arc ind.cates that the scintillation is caused.by a highly localized.*** analysis favors a Milky Way origin of the ionized.interstellar med.um(IISM)for the localized.scattering med.um but cannot rule out a host galaxy *** present our method.for d.tecting the scintillation arc,which can be applied.generally to sources with irregularly spaced.bursts or *** method. could.help shed.light on the complex interstellar environment surround.ng the FRBs and.in our Galaxy.
