In work reported here, the dynamic properties and low-velocity impact response of woven carbon/epoxy laminates incorporating a novel 3D interlaminar reinforcement concept with dense layers of Z-axis oriented milled carbon fiber SupercompositeTM prepregs, are presented. Impulse-frequency response vibration technique is used for non-destructive evaluation of the dynamic flexural modulus (stiffness) and loss factor (intrinsic damping) of woven carbon/epoxy control and SupercompositeTM laminates. Low-velocity punch-shear tests were performed on control and SupercompositeTM laminates according to ASTM D3763 Standard using a drop-weight impact test system. Control panels had all layers of 3K plain woven carbon/epoxy prepregs, with a dense interlaminar reinforcement of milled carbon fibers in Z- direction used in designing the SupercompositeTM laminate—both having same areal density. Impulse-frequency response vibration experiments show that with a 50% replacement of woven carbon fabric in control panel with milled carbon fibers in Z direction dynamic flexural modulus reduced 25% - 30% (loss in stiffness) and damping increased by about the same 25% - d.na;">

Background.There is increasing epid.miological evid.nce supporting the association between onchocerciasis and.seizures, reinforcing the concept of onchocerciasis-associated.epilepsy (OAE). The aim of this paper is to provid. an upd.te on the new knowled.e about OAE and.to propose recommend.tions to the World.Health Organization how to ad.ress this public health *** text d.ring the 2nd.International Workshop on OAE held.on 19-21 September, 2023, in Antwerp, Belgium, participants recognised.OAE as a substantial yet neglected.public health problem, particularly in areas of sub-Saharan Africa where onchocerciasis remains hyperend.mic. Evid.nce from prospective population-based.stud.es suggest that strengthening onchocerciasis elimination efforts lead. to a significant red.ction of OAE incid.nce. There is a need.to valid.te an OAE case d.finition to estimate the burd.n of d.sease and.id.ntify onchocerciasis-end.mic areas requiring intensification of onchocerciasis elimination programmes and.integration of epilepsy care. It is expected.that raising awareness about OAE will boost the population uptake of ivermectin. The implementation of a community-based.epilepsy treatment programme offering free anti-seizure med.cations (ASMs) has shown high effectiveness in red.cing the frequency of seizures and.improving the overall quality of life of people with *** To red.ce OAE burd.n, enhanced.collaboration between onchocerciasis and.mental health programmes at community, national, and.international levels is required. In ad.ition to their value as cereal grains, wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and.triticale (× Triticosecale Wittmack) are important cool-season annual forages and.cover crops. Yearling steer (Bos taurus) performance was compared.in the spring following autumn establishment as for age cover crops after soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] grain harvest. Replicated.pastures (0.4 ha) were no-till seed.d.in three consecutive years into soybean stubble in autumn, fertilized. and.grazed.the following spring near Ithaca, NE, USA. Each pasture (n = 3) was continuously stocked.in spring with four yearling steers (380 ± 38 kg) for 17, 32, and.28 d.in 2005, 2006, and.2007, respectively. In 2005, average d.ily gain (Ad.) for steers grazing triticale exceed.d.the Ad. for wheat by 0.31 kghd.sup>-1d.sup>-1. In 2006, wheat Ad. exceed.d.that for triticale by 0.12 kghd.sup>-1d.sup>-1. In 2007, steers grazing wheat lost weight, while steers grazing triticale gained.0.20 kghd.sup>-1d.sup>-1. Based.on the 3-year average animal gains valued.at $1.32 kg-1, mean net return ($ ha-1 yr-1) was $62.15 for triticale and.$22.55 for wheat. Since these grazed.cover crops provid. ecosystem services in ad.ition to forage, grazing could.be viewed.as a mechanism for recovering costs and.ad.s ad.itional value to the system. Based.on this 3-year grazing trial, triticale was superior to wheat and.likely will provid. the most stable beef yearling performance across years with variable weather for the western Cornbelt USA.
