Leveraging the potential of big genomic and phenotypic data for genome-wide association mapping in wheat

Genome-wide association mapping studies(GWAS)based on Big Data are a potential approach to improve marker-assisted selection in plant *** number of available phenotypic and genomic data sets in which medium-sized populations of several hundred individuals have been studied is rapidly *** these data and using them in GWAS could increase both the power of QTL discovery and the accuracy of estimation of underlying genetic effects,but is hindered by data heterogeneity and lack of *** this study,we used genomic and phenotypic data sets,focusing on central European winter wheat populations evaluated for heading *** explored strategies for integrating these data and subsequently the resulting potential for *** interoperability between data sets was greatly aided by some overlapping genotypes and a linear relationship between the different phenotyping protocols,resulting in high quality integrated phenotypic *** this context,genomic prediction proved to be a suitable tool to study relevance of interactions between genotypes and experimental series,which was low in our *** to expectations,fewer associations between markers and traits were found in the larger combined data than in the individual experimental ***,the predictive power based on the marker-trait associations of the integrated data set was higher across data ***,the results show that the integration of medium-sized to Big Data is an approach to increase the power to detect QTL in *** results encourage further efforts to standardize and share data in the plant breeding community.

The presence of organic matter in lakes profoundly impacts drinking water supplies,yet treatment processes involving coagulants and disinfectants can yield carcinogenic disinfection *** assessments of organic matter,such as chemical oxygen demand(cOD_(Mn))and biochemical oxygen demand(BOD_(5)),are often ***,optical measurements of dissolved organic matter(DOM)offer a rapid and reliable means of obtaining organic matter composition *** we employed DOM optical measurements in conjunction with parallel factor analysis to scrutinize cOD_(Mn)and BOD_(5)*** was performed using an independent dataset encompassing six lakes on the Yungui Plateau from 2014 to 2016(n=256).Leveraging multiple linear regressions(MLRs)applied to DOM absorbance at 254 nm(a254)and fluorescence components c1-c5,we successfully traced cOD_(Mn)and BOD_(5)variations across the entire plateau(68 lakes,n=271,R^(2)>0.8,Pcal indices yielded superior estimates(higher R^(2))of cOD_(Mn)and BOD_(5)during the rainy season compared to the dry season and demonstrated increased accuracy(R^(2)>0.9)in mesotrophic lakes compared to oligotrophic and eutrophic *** study underscores the utility of MLR-based DOM indices for inferring cOD_(Mn)and BOD_(5)variability in plateau lakes and highlights the potential of integrating in situ and remote sensing platforms for water pollution early warning.

Roseiflexus castenholzii is a gram-negativefilamentous phototrophic bacterium that carries out anoxygenic photosynthesis through a cyclic electron transport chain(ETc).The ETc is composed of a reaction center(Rc)–light-harvesting(LH)complex(rcRc–LH);an alternative complex III(rcAcIII),which functionally re-places the cytochrome bc1/b6f complex;and the periplasmic electron acceptor auracyanin(rcAc).Although compositionally and structurally different from the bc1/b6f complex,rcAcIII plays similar essential roles in oxidizing menaquinol and transferring electrons to the ***,rcAcIII-mediated electron transfer(which includes both an intraprotein route and a downstream route)has not been clearly elucidated,nor have the details of cyclic ***,we identify a previously unknown monoheme cytochrome c(cyt c551)as a novel periplasmic electron acceptor of *** reduces the light-excited rcRc–LH to complete a cyclic *** also reveal the molecular mechanisms involved in the ETc using electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR),spectroelectrochemistry,and enzymatic and structural *** that electrons released from rcAcIII-oxidized menaquinol are transferred to two alternative periplasmic electron acceptors(rcAc and cyt c551),which eventually reduce the rcRc to form the complete cyclic *** work serves as a foundation for further studies of AcIII-mediated electron transfer in anoxygenic photosynthesis and broadens our under-standing of the diversity and molecular evolution of prokaryotic ETcs.

Improving a Patient’s cVD Risk Assessment—Updating the Interpretation of the Lipid Profile

The lipid profile remains an important laboratory assessment to prevent cardiovascular disease. Interpretation of the non-fasting lipid profile has significantly changed based on new information concerning the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. In particular, the assessment of risk from cholesterol containing particles following triglyceride metabolism (termed remnant cholesterol) can now be done from a lipid profile. In addition, non-HDL cholesterol as calculated from the lipid profile will provide a complete assessment of total circulating cholesterol containing particles. Furthermore, the formula for measurement of LDL cholesterol from a lipid profile has now been revised so that triglyceride levels exert less interference. Finally, the old concept that the “higher the HDL-c, the better” is no longer tenable. New data indicate that the optimal high density lipoprotein level is below 100 mg/dl for both male and female patients. correct interpretation of the lipid profile will optimize anti-atherosclerotic therapy and reduce the number one cause of death in the United States.

Fukui Functions for the Temporary Anion Resonance States of Be^-, Mg^-, and ca^-

comparative Study of Exhaust Emissions from Diesel and Syngas Powered 3.5 kW compression Ignition Engine with and without Load

Despite diesel engines being highly efficient, with low fuel consumption and reduced carbon dioxide emissions, they emit relatively high levels of particulate matter and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) due to high exhaust gas temperatures. Engine emissions show the quality and completeness of combustion. This paper aims to present the results of a study comparing exhaust emissions from a diesel and syngas powered engine. Syngas was produced from co-firing coal and biomass in a gasifier then cleaned, cooled and applied as an alternative fuel in an engine operated from 0 - 100% load. Exhaust-emissions were monitored at this load conditions. The exhaust-temperature was measured using thermocouples and the emission gases were analyzed using Testo 350. The emissions were lower and decreased as the engine load increased, except for sulphur dioxide and NOx. The study shows that levels of carbon monoxide, were higher in a range of 46.5 - 80.2%, while carbon dioxide was 3.3 - 18% higher compared to those from diesel. Hydrocarbon emissions were 480 and 1250 ppm for diesel and syngas respectively. The study reveals that the engine operates optimally at higher loads since hydrocarbons and oxides of carbon are low due to complete combustion at higher temperatures. Exhaust gas temperature was higher in the syngas fuel and increased as the engine load increased in the range of 455.83 - 480.03˚c which influenced the formation of NOx. NOx from diesel was found to be higher, ranging from 32.5 - 40.5%, compared to those from syngas with an engine load of 75%. The study observed that relative to diesel, the emissions of sulfur dioxide at 50% engine load were lower in a range of 23.7 - 57.1%. Emissions of hydrocarbons depended on the degree of substitution of diesel and engine load. The study therefore shows that, relative to diesel, emissions decreased when syngas was used with upgraded syngas from Prosporis juliflora presenting as the best alternative followed by Hyphanae compressa, and last
