The ascendent theory that unifies the Earth Sciences is Plate Tectonics, a regime which is unique to Earth. Other convectively active, solid silicate bodies of our Solar System (Venus, Mars, and Io) are encased in a single deforming "lid";on these, multiple plates and hence plate motions do not exist [1]. As Earth’s tectonic plates are driven by the sinking of old and cold oceanic lithosphere at subduction zones, understanding how new subduction zones originate is vital for a complete plate tectonic theory. Proposed mechanisms of subduction initiation (SI) are controversial but can be either spontaneous, i.e., caused by forces originating at the SI site, or induced by ongoing plate motions [2].

Information sharing in procurement occurs in rich and varied industry contexts in which managerial decisions are made and organizational strategy is formulated. We explore how information sharing ought to work in procurement contexts that involve investments in inter-organizational information systems （IOS） and collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment （CPFR） practices. How and under what circumstances does a firm that plays the role of a supply chain buyer decide to share information on key variables, such as point-of-sale consumer demand data with its supplier, up the supply chain？ This is a key issue that crosses the boundary between supply chain management and information systems （IS） management. The answers that we provide are based on our use of a game-theoretic signaling model of buyer and supplier strategy in the presence of uncertainties about final consumer demand. We also explore the connection between operational costs that are associated with the firm＇s information sharing and information withholding strategies. Our results provide normative guidance to supply chain buyers about how to interpret different demand uncertainty scenarios to improve their decisions and generate high value. From the IS management perspective, we show the impacts on the firm of different information sharing approaches that are made possible by present day technologies.

The nanoscale morphology within the photoactive layer of organic solar cells is critical in determining the power conversion efficiency (PCE). Here, we draw attention to the roles of molecular arrangement, and domain size in improving performance, which can be tuned by subj.cting the photovoltaic materials to solvent vapor annealing (SVA). In our PTB7-Th:ITIC devices, the PCE can be improved by exposing the device to solvent vapor for 60 s after solution casting. The solvent vapor prolongs reorganizational time and increases molecular ordering and domain size/phase separation, which are sub-optimal in pristine PTB7-Th:ITIC blend films. This improved morphology results in better charge mobility, reduced recombination, and ultimately an improved PCE from 7.1% to 7.9% when using CS2 as the annealing solvent. This simple SVA technique can be applied to a range of OPV systems where the molecular ordering is inferior within the as-cast photoactive layer.

Wavelet threshold denoising is a powerful method for suppressing noise in signals and images. However, this method often uses a coordinate-wise processing scheme, which ignores the structural properties in the wavelet coefficients. We propose a new wavelet denoising method using sparse representation which is a powerful mathematical tool recently developed. Instead of thresholding wavelet coefficients individually, we minimize the number of non-zero coefficients under certain conditions. The denoised signal is reconstructed by solving an optimization problem. It is shown that the solution to the optimization problem can be obtained uniquely and the estimates of the denoised wavelet coefficients are unbiased, i.e., the statistical means of the estimates are equal to the noise-free wavelet coefficients. It is also shown that at least a local optimal solution to the denoising problem can be found. Our experiments on test data indicate that this new denoising method is effective and efficient for a wide variety of signals including those with low signal-to-noise ratios.

BACKGROUND Patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) are prone to several nutritional deficiencies. However, data are lacking on vitamin C deficiency in Crohn’s disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC) patients, as well as the impact of clinical, biomarker and endoscopic disease severity on the development of vitamin C *** To determine proportions and factors associated with vitamin C deficiency in CD and UC *** In this retrospective study, we obtained clinical, laboratory and endoscopic data from CD and UC patients presenting to the IBD clinic at a single tertiary care center from 2014 to 2019. All patients had an available plasma vitamin C level. Of 353 subj.cts who met initial search criteria using a cohort discovery tool, 301ultimately met criteria for inclusion in the study. The primary aim described vitamin C deficiency(≤ 11.4 μmol/L) rates in IBD. Secondary analyses compared proportions with deficiency between active and inactive IBD. Multivariate logistic regression analysis evaluated factors associated with *** Of 301 IBD patients, 21.6% had deficiency, including 24.4% of CD patients and 16.0% of UC patients. Patients with elevated C-reactive protein(CRP)(39.1% vs 16.9%, P j.ctive inflammatory marker utilized for analysis(elevated CRP) was the only factor associated with deficiency(odds ratio = 3.1, 95%confidence interval: 1.5-6.6, P = 0.003). Discovery of N-benzyl hydroxypyridone carboxamides as a novel and potent antiviral chemotype against human cytomegalovirus (HCMV)
