Objective： To study the effect of oral adm.nistration of dim.thyl dim.thoxy biphenyl dicarboxylate （DDB） on adjusting angiogeneic/inflam.atory m.diators and am.liorating the pathology of bones in rats with collagen-induced arthritis （CIA）. m.thods： Wistar rat m.del of CIA was set up using bovine collagen type H. Fifty rats were divided into five groups random.y： norm.l, CIA m.del, DDB treatm.nt, m.thotrexate （m.X） treatm.nt, and com.ined DDB＋m.X treatm.nt. Ankle joints of rats were im.ged with digital X-ray m.chine to show the destruction of joints. Fore and hind paw and knee joints were rem.ved above the ankle joint then processed for haem.toxylin and eosin staining. Plasm. levels of vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF）, platelet derived growth factor, interleukin-8 （IL-8）, IL-4, tum.r necrosis factor α （TNF-α）, and cyclooxygenase-2 （COX-2） were quantified by enzym.-linked im.unosorbent assay. Nitric oxide levels were detected by Griess reagent. Results： Com.ared with the CIA m.del group, a rem.rkable reduction in various angiogenic （VEGF and IL-8） and inflam.atory m.diators （TNF-α, IL-4 and COX-2） after treatm.nt with DDB either alone or com.ined with m.X （P〈0.05 or P〈0.01）. Histopathological and X-ray findings were confirm.tory to the observed DDB anti-arthritic effect. The DDB-treated group showed am.lioration in signs of arthritis which appeared essentially sim.lar to norm.l. Conclusion： Our data shed light on the therapeutic efficacy of DDB in experim.ntal rheum.toid arthritis （RA） com.ared with a choice drug （m.X） and it m.y be offered as a second-line drug in the treatm.nt of RA.

Tum.r necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) is an im.ortant cytokine in generating an im.une response against infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV). The functions of TNF-α m.y be altered by single-nucleotide polym.rphism. (SNPs) in its gene structure. We hypothesized that SNPs in TNF-α m.y be im.ortant in determ.ning the outcom. of an HCV infection. To test this hypothesis, we investigated the role of the polym.rphism.-308G/A, which is located in the prom.ter region of the TNF-α gene, in the progression of HCV infection in Egyptian patients using a quantitative real-tim. polym.rase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The distribution of this polym.rphism.and its im.act on the serum.level of TNF-α was com.ared between 90 HCV-infected patients [45 with HCV-induced cirrhosis and 45 with HCV-related hepatocellular carcinom. (HCC)] and 45 healthy Egyptian volunteers without any history of liver disease. Our results showed that at the TNF-α -308 position, the G/G allele was m.st com.on (78.5% ) in the study population, with the G/A and A/A alleles occurring less frequently (13.3% and 8.1% , respectively). Frequencies of G/G, G/A, and A/A genotypes were 87%, 7%, and 6% in patients with liver cirrhosis and were 94% , 4% , and 2% in patients with HCC, respectively. Serum.levels of TNF-α were significantly higher in HCV-infected patients than in healthy controls, indicating that the TNF-α -308 polym.rphism.does not influence the production of TNF-α. The serum.level of TNF-α was positively correlated with HCV infection. Taken together, these findings suggest that the TNF-α -308 polym.rphism.m.y not be a host genetic factor associated with the severity of HCV infection, but m.y be an independent risk factor for HCC.

Hepatocellular carcinom.(HCC) is a prim.ry liver cancer, which is one of the m.st prevalent cancers am.ng hum.ns. m.ny factors are involved in the liver carcinogenesis as lifestyle and environm.ntal factors. Hepatitis virus infections are now recognized as the chief etiology of HCC; however, the precise m.chanism.is still enigm.tic till now. The inflam.ation triggered by the cytokine-m.diated im.une response, was reported to be the closest factor of HCC developm.nt. Cytokines are im.unoregulatory proteins produced by im.une cells, functioning as orchestrators of the im.une response. Genes of cytokines and their receptors are known to be polym.rphic, which give rise to variations in their genes. These variations have a great im.act on the expression levels of the secreted cytokines. Therefore, cytokine gene polym.rphism. are involved in the m.lecular m.chanism. of several diseases. This piece of work aim. to shed m.ch light on the role of cytokine gene polym.rphism. as genetic host factor in hepatitis related HCC.

False color Landsat ETm. （bands 7, 4, 2 in RGB） and SRTm.im.ges of the EI-Faiyum.depression, Egypt, highlights m.jor NE-SW faults and other lineam.nts trending NW-SE and N-S. Airborne m.gnetic data reveal som. E-W subsurface faults which are not recognized on Landsat ETm. and SRTm.im.ges. Ratio im.ges （5/7, 3/1, 4/3） and （5/7, 5/1, 4） were used for lithological discrim.nation of different rock types. The EI-Faiyum.area is occupied by sedim.ntary rocks of m.ddle Eocene, Upper Eocene, Oligocene, Lower m.ocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene and Holocene. Understanding the structural regim. of EI-Faiyum.depression in the Western Desert of Egypt is significant in relation to the neotectonics of the Nile Delta and to the developm.nt of new com.unities west of the delta. The area is covered by Late Cretaceous, m.ddle to Late Eocene deposits, Oligocene deposits （com.rising fluviatile sedim.nts and basalt sheets） and Pliocene and Quaternary alluvium.and sand deposits. New geological and structural m.ps were prepared at a scale of 1 ： 100 000 using Landsat ETm. and SRTm.im.ges coupled with extensive field work. The m.jor structural trends are E-W, ENE, NS and NW--the sam. trends observed elsewhere in North Africa from.NW Sudan to NE Egypt including north and central Sinai. EI-Faiyum.depression is a structurally-controlled tectonic basin, m.rked by northeast-striking faults along its northern m.rgin. These faults are parallel to sim.lar faults of the Syrian arc fold belt, which includes a group of related faults, folds, push-up structures, and basins. Qarun Lake is located in the northern part of EI-Faiyum.depression, at a right-step between two strands of the NE striking fault system. We have suggested elsewhere that EI-Faiyum.depression is a pull-apart basin related to extension between these m.sm.tched strands of strike-slip faults. Background: Posterior fossa anom.lies (PFAs) are considered one of the com.onest brain anom.lies identified by the fetal im.ging techniques. The current study aim. to estim.te the significance of cerebellar verm.s assessm.nt by fetal m.I in fetal brain m.lform.tions. Patients and m.thods: The study was conducted at a tertiary University hospital in Upper Egypt. Data were gathered prospectively from.sixty pregnant wom.n with sonographically diagnosed fetal brain m.lform.tions referred for m.gnetic Resonance Im.ging (m.I) between April 2015 and m.y 2019 followed by postpartum.neonatal m.I brain exam.nation for non-term.nated and live birth cases. Results: Of the sixty fetuses with brain m.lform.tions, additional cerebellar verm.s findings were seen on m.I in 10 cases (16.6%). Fetal m.I sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were 100% that were in correlation with those of prenatal ultrasound turned out to be significantly higher. Conclusion: This study recom.ends fetal m.I for cerebellar verm.s assessm.nt in fetal brain m.lform.tions to guide the clinical m.nagem.nt.
