Objective:Brain metastasis is considered rare in metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC);thus,surveillance imaging does not routinely include the *** reported incidence of brain metastases ranges from 0.6% to 3.2%.Methods:The South Australian mCRC Registry(SAmCRC)was analyzed to assess the number of patients presenting with brain metastasis during their *** to small numbers,a descriptive analysis is ***:Only 59 patients of 4,100 on the registry at the time of analysis had developed brain metastasis(1.4%).The clinical characteristics of those with brain metastasis were as follows:the median age was 65.3 years and 51% were *** the V-Ki-ras2 Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog(KRAS)mutation status of the tumor was known,the majority harbored a KRAS mutation(55%);31(53%)underwent craniotomy and 55(93%)underwent whole-brain *** median survival time from diagnosis of brain metastasis was 4.2 months(95% confidence interval 2.9–5.5).Patients who underwent craniotomy and radiotherapy had superior survival compared to those who underwent whole-brain radiotherapy(8.5 months vs.2.2 months,respectively).Data from the SAmCRC(a population-based registry)confirm that brain metastases are rare and the median time to development is approximately 2 ***:Brain metastasis is a rare outcome in advanced *** within the registry tended to be female,young in age,and harbored with higher rates of KRAS *** routine surveillance brain scanning should be considered remains controversial given the relative rarity of developing brain metastases in mCRC and ultimately,most patients with central nervous system involvement die from their extracranial disease.

In-situ stress measurements and stress change monitoring to monitor overburden caving behaviour and hydraulic fracture pre-conditioning

A coal mine in New South Wales is longwall mining 300 m wide panels at a depth of 160–180 m directly below a 16–20 m thick conglomerate strata. As part of a strategy to use hydraulic fracturing to manage potential windblast and periodic caving hazards associated with these conglomerate strata,the in-situ stresses in the conglomerate were measured using ANZI strain cells and the overcoring method of stress relief. Changes in stress associated with abutment loading and placement of hydraulic fractures were also measured using ANZI strain cells installed from the surface and from underground. Overcore stress measurements have indicated that the vertical stress is the lowest principal stress so that hydraulic fractures placed ahead of mining form horizontally and so provide effective pre-conditioning to promote caving of the conglomerate strata. Monitoring of stress changes in the overburden strata during longwall retreat was undertaken at two different locations at the mine. The monitoring indicated stress changes were evident 150 m ahead of the longwall face and abutment loading reached a maximum increase of about7.5 MPa. The stresses ahead of mining change gradually with distance to the approaching longwall and in a direction consistent with the horizontal in-situ stresses. There was no evidence in the stress change monitoring results to indicate significant cyclical forward abutment loading ahead of the face. The forward abutment load determined from the stress change monitoring is consistent with the weight of overburden strata overhanging the goaf indicated by subsidence monitoring.

In order to facilitate optimal quality and continuity of care and self-management of patients with schizophrenia, Personal Control in Rehabilitation (PCR) has been developed, a comprehensive internet-based platform. PCR aims to reach patients with schizophrenia or related psychotic disorders and their (in)formal caregivers. It provides caregivers and patients with a kind of dashboard giving them (tailored) information about the physical and psychosocial situation of the patient, their compliance with treatment, and facilitates optimal self-management for patients. With the use of PCR, informal caregivers have access to information about treatment and can consult formal caregivers, formal caregivers have easy access to the multidisciplinary guideline schizophrenia and to the regional care plans. Patients and their formal and informal caregivers completed questionnaires about empowerment, quality of life, quality of care and workload before the introduction of PCR and nine months later. A sample of them also participates in focus group discussions about the usefulness and usability of PCR and bottle necks in using the platform. Response to the questionnaires, especially at followup, was not adequate for statistical analyses of its results. Therefore, the focus of this paper is on the process evaluation of the implementation of PCR in two large mental health organisations in the Netherlands. Data for this evaluation are results of a number of open questions of the questionnaire and results of the focus group discussions. In these discussions, 19 patients, 12 informal caregivers, 33 formal caregivers and three managers participated. Preliminary results of this study show that the implementation of PCR is feasible and patients, formal and informal caregivers were satisfied with the use of PCR and frequently used PCR to communicate, make appointments, give feedback and look for information about their disease and its treatment. Morphotropic phase boundary(MPB)containing piezoelectric systems generally exhibit enhanced piezoelectric performance at compositions within,or close to,the MPB *** mechanism/s underlying such enhancement,however,are still contentious due to complex micro/nanostructure and apparently inherent local structural variability associated with octahedral tilt disorder/platelet precipitates in such piezoelectric *** paper reviews some recent structural analysis results from Bi_(0.5)Na_(0.5)TiO_(3)(BNT)and other binary,lead-free,piezoelectric materials systems derived from it via electron diffraction and in situ neutron *** results suggest that intrinsically existing local microstructure(LMS)in BNT essentially continues across the MPB *** LMS,originating from inherent octahedral tilt disorder,is strongly temperature-,electric field-,pressure-and chemical composition-dependent,and may help to explain a series of phenomena observed in BNT-based binary materials systems,including the enhanced piezoelectric effect in the region of the MPB.

生态集约化是指通过强化生态系统服务实现以补充或替代人为输入来维持或增加产量的目标。生态集约化具有提高农业环境可持续性的潜力,例如通过降低对环境不利的管理活动而又维持产量。生态集约化基于生态过程,而这些过程受到生物多样性的影响。本文综述了多空间尺度下生物多样性,特别是维管植物多样性如何调节与生态集约化相关的生态过程。在植物个体基因型水平上,功能性状的互补性直接影响生产力;在田块内种群水平上,作物混合类型具有抗灾能力,以减少病虫害的发生和传播的风险;尺度转换到田间水平,非作物植物类型(如杂草)的多样性为田块内的功能过程提供了必要的资源,包括地下(碳输入、分解)和地上(传粉媒介和天敌的资源连续性)。在景观尺度上,半自然和管理的植被嵌合体通过减轻洪涝和干旱风险、改善气候和调节虫害种群,为抵御极端事件提供缓冲。总体而言,上述强调了尺度异质性在农田维持生态系统功能的重要性。本综述的主要研究挑战包括:1)将植物功能多样性(从性状到栖息地尺度)更好地整合到种植系统设计中;2)量化植物多样性相对于其他管理选项对有效生态集约化的可能互动贡献,3)并通过有针对性的管理优化生物多样性的系统功能优势,以实现具有弹性、高效和高产的农业生态系统。
