Single-emitter super-resolved imaging of radiative decay rate enhancement in dielectric gap nanoantennas

High refractive index dielectric nanoantennas strongly modify the decay rate via the Purcell effect through the design of radiative channels.Due to their dielectric nature,the field is mainly confined inside the nanostructure and in the gap,which is hard to probe with scanning probe techniques.Here we use single-molecule fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy(smFLIM)to map the decay rate enhancement in dielectric GaP nanoantenna dimers with a median localization precision of 14 nm.We measure,in the gap of the nanoantenna,decay rates that are almost 30 times larger than on a glass substrate.By comparing experimental results with numerical simulations we show that this large enhancement is essentially radiative,contrary to the case of plasmonic nanoantennas,and therefore has great potential for applications such as quantum optics and biosensing.

Purpose:The study aimed to examine the reporting completeness of randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of non-pharmacological interventions following concussion.Methods:We searched MEDLINE,Embase,PsycInfo,CINAHL,and Web of Science up to May 2022.Two reviewers independently screened studies and assessed reporting completeness using the Template for Intervention Description and Replication(TIDieR),Consensus on Exercise Reporting Template(CERT),and international Consensus on Therapeutic Exercise aNd Training(i-CONTENT)checklists.Additional information was sought my study authors where reporting was incomplete.Risk of bias(rob)was assessed with the Cochrane rob-2 Tool.RCTs examining non-pharmacological interventions following concussion.Results:We included 89 RCTs(n=53 high rob)examining 11 different interventions for concussion:sub-symptom threshold aerobic exercise,cervicovestibular therapy,physical/cognitive rest,vision therapy,education,psychotherapy,hyperbaric oxygen therapy,transcranial magnetic stimulation,blue light therapy,osteopathic manipulation,and head/neck cooling.Median scores were:TIDieR 9/12(75%;interquartile range(IQR)=5;range:5-12),CERT 17/19(89%;IQR=2;range:10-19),and i-CONTENT 6/7(86%;IQR=1;range:5-7).Percentage of studies completely reporting all items was TIDieR 35%(31/89),CERT 24%(5/21),and i-CONTENT 10%(2/21).Studies were more completely reported after publication of TIDieR(t_(87)=2.08;p=0.04)and CERT(t_(19)=2.72;p=0.01).Reporting completeness was not strongly associated with journal impact factor(TIDieR:rs=0.27;p=0.01;CERT:r_(s)=-0.44;p=0.06;i-CONTENT:r_(s)=-0.17;p=0.48)or rob(TIDieR:rs=0.11;p=0.31;CERT:rs=0.04;p=0.86;i-CONTENT:rs=0.12;p=0.60).Conclusion:RCTs of non-pharmacological interventions following concussion demonstrate moderate to good reporting completeness,but are often missing key components,particularly modifications,motivational strategies,and qualified supervisor.Reporting completeness improved after TIDieR and CERT publication,but publication in highly cited journals and low rob

A falling weight deflectometer is a testing device used in civil engineering to measure and evaluate the physical properties of pavements,such as the modulus of the subgrade reaction(Y1)and the elastic modulus of the slab(Y2),which are crucial for assessing the structural strength of pavements.In this study,we developed a novel hybrid artificial intelligence model,i.e.,a genetic algorithm(GA)-optimized adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS-GA),to predict Y1 and Y2 based on easily determined 13 parameters of rigid pavements.The performance of the novel ANFIS-GA model was compared to that of other benchmark models,namely logistic regression(LR)and radial basis function regression(RBFR)algorithms.These models were validated using standard statistical measures,namely,the coefficient of correlation(R),mean absolute error(MAE),and root mean square error(RMSE).The results indicated that the ANFIS-GA model was the best at predicting Y1(R=0.945)and Y2(R=0.887)compared to the LR and RBFR models.Therefore,the ANFIS-GA model can be used to accurately predict Y1 and Y2 based on easily measured parameters for the appropriate and rapid assessment of the quality and strength of pavements.

Iatrogenic preterm premature rupture of fetal membranes(iPPROM)after fetal surgery remains a strong trigger for premature birth.As fetal membrane defects do not heal spontaneously and amniotic fluid leakage and chorioamniotic membrane separation may occur,we developed a biocompatible,fetoscopically-applicable collagen plug with shape memory to prevent leakage.This plug expands directly upon employment and seals fetal membranes,hence preventing amniotic fluid leakage and potentially iPPROM.Lyophilized typeⅠcollagen plugs were given shape memory and crimped to fit through a fetoscopic cannula(Ø3 mm).Expansion of the plug was examined in phosphate buffered saline(PBS).Its sealing capacity was studied ex vivo using human fetal membranes,and in situ in a porcine bladder model.The crimped plug with shape memory expanded and tripled in diameter within 1 min when placed into PBS,whereas a crimped plug without shape memory did not.In both human fetal membranes and porcine bladder,the plug expanded in the defect,secured itself and sealed the defect without membrane rupture.In conclusion,collagen plugs with shape memory are promising as medical device for rapid sealing of fetoscopic defects in fetal membranes at the endoscopic entry point.

Effects of turbulence on carbon emission in shallow lakes

Turbulent mixing is enhanced in shallow lakes. As a result, exchanges across the air–water and sediment–water interfaces are increased, causing these systems to be large sources of greenhouse gases. This study investigated the effects of turbulence on carbon dioxide（CO2）and methane（CH4） emissions in shallow lakes using simulated mesocosm experiments.Results demonstrated that turbulence increased CO2 emissions, while simultaneously decreasing CH4 emissions by altering microbial processes. Under turbulent conditions, a greater fraction of organic carbon was recycled as CO2 instead of CH4, potentially reducing the net global warming effect because of the lower global warming potential of CO2 relative to CH4. The CH4/CO2 flux ratio was approximately 0.006 under turbulent conditions, but reached 0.078 in the control. The real-time quantitative PCR analysis indicated that methanogen abundance decreased and methanotroph abundance increased under turbulent conditions, inhibiting CH4 production and favoring the oxidation of CH4 to CO2.These findings suggest that turbulence may play an important role in the global carbon cycle by limiting CH4 emissions, thereby reducing the net global warming effect of shallow lakes.

Water level predictions in the river,lake and delta play an important role in flood management.Every year Mekong River delta of Vietnam is experiencing flood due to heavy monsoon rains and high tides.Land subsidence may also aggravate flooding problems in this area.Therefore,accurate predictions of water levels in this region are very important to forewarn the people and authorities for taking timely adequate remedial measures to prevent losses of life and property.There are so many methods available to predict the water levels based on historical data but nowadays Machine Learning(ML)methods are considered the best tool for accurate prediction.In this study,we have used surface water level data of 18 water level measurement stations of the Mekong River delta from 2000 to 2018 to build novel time-series Bagging based hybrid ML models namely:Bagging(RF),Bagging(SOM)and Bagging(M5P)to predict historical water levels in the study area.Performances of the Bagging-based hybrid models were compared with Reduced Error Pruning Trees(REPT),which is a benchmark ML model.The data of 19 years period was divided into 70:30 ratio for the modeling.The data of the period 1/2000 to 5/2013(which is about 70%of total data)was used for the training and for the period 5/2013 to 12/2018(which is about 30%of total data)was used for testing(validating)the models.Performance of the models was evaluated using standard statistical measures:Coefficient of Determination(R2),Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)and Mean Absolute Error(MAE).Results show that the performance of all the developed models is good(R2>0.9)for the prediction of water levels in the study area.However,the Bagging-based hybrid models are slightly better than another model such as REPT.Thus,these Bagging-based hybrid time series models can be used for predicting water levels at Mekong data.

Adaptive moving mesh research usually focuses either on analytical deriva-tions for prescribed solutions or on pragmatic solvers with challenging physical appli-cations. In the latter case, the monitor functions that steer mesh adaptation are oftendefined in an ad-hoc way. In this paper we generalize our previously used moni-tor function to a balanced sum of any number of monitor components. This avoidsthe trial-and-error parameter fine-tuning that is often used in monitor functions. Thekey reason for the new balancing method is that the ratio between the maximum andaverage value of a monitor component should ideally be equal for all components.Vorticity as a monitor component is a good motivating example for this. Entropy alsoturns out to be a very informative monitor component. We incorporate the monitorfunction in an adaptive moving mesh higher-order finite volume solver with HLLCfluxes, which is suitable for nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws. Whenapplied to compressible gas flow it produces very sharp results for shocks and otherdiscontinuities. Moreover, it captures small instabilities (Richtmyer-Meshkov, Kelvin-Helmholtz). Thus showing the rich nature of the example problems and the effective-ness of the new monitor balancing.

Transforming growth factor-β （TGF-β） members are key cytokines that control embryogenesis and tissue homeostasis via transmembrane TGF-β type II （TβR II） and type I （TβRI） and serine/threonine kinases receptors. Aberrant activation of TGF-β signaling leads to diseases, including cancer. In advanced cancer, the TGF-β/SMAD pathway can act as an oncogenic factor driving tumor cell invasion and metastasis, and thus is considered to be a therapeutic target. The activity of TGF-β/SMAD pathway is known to be regulated by ubiquitination at multiple levels. As ubiquitination is reversible, emerging studies have uncovered key roles for ubiquitin-removals on TGF-β signaling components by deubiquitinating enzymes （DUBs）. In this paper, we summarize the latest findings on the DUBs that control the activity of the TGF-β signaling pathway. The regula- tory roles of these DUBs as a driving force for cancer progression as well as their underlying working mech- anisms are also discussed.
