High scale integration of renewable energies has led power system towards a new set of challenges that have increased the complexity of cost optimization problems.Moreover,forecast errors in the prediction of wind,PV and load greatly affect the accuracy of optimization.Previous studies have been focused by using optimal transmission switching（OTS）to solve different power system problems.As renewable sources integration in the power system imposes the uncertainties which change the system state dynamically,and to apply OTS under such conditions is a big challenge.To cater with the above mentioned problem we used probabilistic load flow（PLF）with Gram-Charlier expansion method,to calculate the uncertain condition of the power system and the state of the power flow.Therefore,Gram-Charlier method has been proposed for solving PLF based OTS for large-scale integration of renewable energy.The Gram-Charlier Expansion method has been used for forecast error evaluation in order to improve the accuracy of the proposed method.Furthermore,proposed method use in this work has the fast convergence properties.In this work,uncertainies of a wind farm along with PV and load are considered as in realistic aspect.In this thesis,the simultaneous optimization of generation dispatch and network topology for PLF based OTS has been investigated.The results evaluations are based on the 24 hours with varying topology structure and cost reduction.With the different time scales,different level of penetration of RES is considered to verify the model effectiveness and system behavior.For justification and benchmarking of the proposed model modified IEEE-118 bus system is used.Using proposed formulation,uncertainties of the renewable sources can be taken into account to deal with the dynamic behavior of the system.The results depict that the proposed approach is quite useful for large-scale power systems.The introduction of new technologies to create a more controllable and flexible grid is a part of the smart grid concept and essential to its

Electric-field induced fluctuations in laser generated plasma plume

The effect of an external electric field on laser-generated plasma has been studied.It is observed that the laser-generated plasma can be used for the ignition of a spark in the presence of a low voltage external electric field.An eight-fold emission intensity enhancement in Cu I spectral lines are measured as compared to the signal intensity in the absence of an external electric field.The plasma parameters remain the same initially,up to a few microseconds after the generation of plasma,and this feature makes it more interesting for the quantitative analysis of any sample using laser induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS).In the presence of an external electric field,fluctuations(contraction and expansion)in the laser-generated plasma are observed which increase the plasma decay time and consequently result in enhanced signal intensity.

An Evaluation of the Advanced Dvorak Technique (9.0) for the tropical cyclones over the North Indian Ocean

The Advanced Dvorak Technique(ADT)is used by tropical cyclone prediction centres around the world to accurately evaluate the intensity of tropical cyclones(TCs)from meteorological operational satellites.The algorithm development team has introduced new improvements to the objective ADT to further extend its capabilities and accuracy.A study has therefore undergone to evaluate the new edition of ADT(9.0)based on all the North Indian Ocean Tropical cyclones during 2018,2019 and 2020(Total 15 No.).It is found that ADT(9.0)performed well with the conformity of IMD’s best track T.No estimates.ADT is reasonably good in estimating the intensity for T≥4.0(VSCS to SuCS)and overestimate the intensity for T≤3.5(CS/SCS).

This study investigates the influence of using ground palm oil fuel ash(G-POFA) from 10%-30% as cement replacement(by weight) on the cement mortar's pH under various curing conditions. These findings were supplemented by thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA). Moreover, the resistance of G-POFA blended cement mortars to water absorption and sorptivity was determined. Further, the k-value test was carried out to explain the pozzolanic and filler behavior of G-POFA and to support the results obtained from TGA. It was found that there was no significant impact of several curing conditions on the pH of mortars. The mortar with 10% G-POFA in replacement of cement(G-POFA-10) exhibited the best resistance against water absorption and sorptivity.

Characteristic features of Super Cyclonic Storm(Su CS),AMPHAN which crossed West Bengal-Bangladesh Coast on May 20,2020 have been analyzed based on INSAT-3 D&passive microwave(PMW)images with special emphasis on eye characteristics and its relationship with intensity.These satellite images/products are analyzed to determine the centre of the cyclone,its intensity and the characteristics of the eye of the cyclone.It shows the characteristic variation of intensity of Su CS with geometric and thermal characteristics of the‘eye’.Precise changes in the eye features of the cyclone can be used for very short-range forecasting of the intensity of the cyclone.

Correlation between tibial nail length and olecrenon to 5th metacarpal head measurement: An anthropometric study

Purpose:During fracture fixation,the size of tibial nail is a vital factor affecting the outcomes and thus preoperative estimation of tibial nail length is very important.This study aims to find out whether"olecranon to 5th metacarpal head"(O-MH)measurement can be used to reliably predict the tibial nail length.Methods:This was a cross sectional study involving 100 volunteers.Measurements were done and recorded by two observers on two separate occasions.Tibial nail length estimation measurement was done from highest point of tibial tuberosity to the tip of the medial malleolus(TT-MM).O-MH measurement was taken from tip of olecranon to the tip of 5th metacarpal head with wrist in neutral position and hand clenched.Statistical analysis was done to find out correlation between two measurements and influence of age,gender and body mass index on them.Results:Paired t-test showed no systematic error between the readings.Intraclass correlation coefficient showed strong agreement in inter and intra observer settings.Strong correlation was found between the TT-MM&O-MH measurements using Pearson's correlation coefficient test(r=0.966).Hierarchical regression analysis showed age,gender and BMI have no statistically significant bearings on these measurements and their correlations.Conclusion:O-MH measurement is a useful and accurate means of estimating tibial nail length preoperatively.

The widespread use of smartwatches has increased their specific and complementary activities in the health sector for patient’s prognosis.In this study,we propose a framework referred to as smart forecasting CardioWatch(SCW)to measure the heart-rate variation(HRV)for patients with myocardial infarction(MI)who live alone or are outside their homes.In this study,HRV is used as a vital alarming sign for patients with MI.The performance of the proposed framework is measured using machine learning and deep learning techniques,namely,support vector machine,logistic regression,and decision-tree classification techniques.The results indicated that the analysis of heart rate can help health services that are located remotely from the patient to render timely emergency health care.Further,taking more cardiac parameters into account can lead to more accurate results.On the basis of our findings,we recommend the development of health-related software to aid researchers to develop frameworks,such as SCW,for effective provision of emergency health.

Software-Defined Networking(SDN)is a new network technology that uses programming to complement the data plane with a control plane.To enable safe connection,however,numerous security challenges must be addressed.Flooding attacks have been one of the most prominent risks on the internet for decades,and they are now becoming challenging difficulties in SDN networks.To solve these challenges,we proposed a unique firewall application built on multiple levels of packet filtering to provide a flooding attack prevention system and a layer-based packet detection system.This study offers a systematic strategy for wrapping up the examination of SDN operations.The Mininet simulator examines the effectiveness of SDN-based firewalls at various network tiers.The fundamental network characteristics that specify how SDN should operate.The three main analytical measures of the network are jitter,response time,and throughput.During regular operations,their behavior evaluates in the standard SDN conditions of Transmission Control Protocol(TCP)flooding and User Datagram Protocol(UDP)flooding with no SDN occurrences.Low Orbit Ion Cannon(LOIC)is applied to launch attacks on the transmission by the allocated server.Wireshark and MATLAB are used for the behavioral study to determine how sensitive the parameters are used in the SDN network and monitor the fluctuations of those parameters for different simulated scenarios.

The United States is in the throes of a severe opioid overdose epidemic,primarily fueled by the pervasive use of fentanyl and the emerging threat of xylazine,a veterinary sedative often mixed with fentanyl.The high potency and long duration of fentanyl is compounded by the added risks from xylazine,heightening the lethal danger faced by opioid users.Measures such as enhanced surveillance,public awareness campaigns,and the distribution of fentanylxylazine test kits,and naloxone have been undertaken to mitigate this crisis.Fentanyl-related overdose deaths persist despite these efforts,partly due to inconsistent policies across states and resistance towards adopting harm reduction strategies.A multifaceted approach is imperative in effectively combating the opioid overdose epidemic.This approach should include expansion of treatment access,broadening the availability of medications for opioid use disorder,implementation of harm reduction strategies,and enaction of legislative reforms and diminishing stigma associated with opioid use disorder.

A unified approach of energy and data cooperation in energy harvesting WSNs

Energy harvesting(EH) provisioned wireless sensor nodes are key enablers to increase network life time in modern wireless sensor networks(WSNs). However, the intermittent nature of the EH process necessitates management of nodes’ limited data and energy buffer capacity. In this paper, a unified mathematical model for a cooperative EHWSN with an opportunistic relay is presented. The energy and data causality constraints are expressed in terms of throughput, available energy, delay and transmission time.Considering finite energy buffers, data buffers and discrete transmission rates(as defined in the standard IEEE 802.15.4) at the nodes, different intuitive online power allocation policies at the relay are studied.The results show that a policy achieving high throughput is less fair and vice versa. Therefore, a joint rate and power allocation policy(JRPAP) is proposed in this study which provides a better trade off between fairness, throughput and energy over intuitive policies. Based on the JRPAP results, we propose to use data aggregation(DA) to achieve throughput gain at lower buffer sizes. In addition, the notion of energy aggregation(EA) is introduced to achieve throughput gain at higher buffer sizes. Combining both EA and DA further improves the overall throughput at all buffer sizes.
