Outcomes and Toxicology of Herbal Drugs in Alcoholic Hepatitis-A Single Center Experience from India

Background and Aims:We aimed to study clinical out-comes and liver biopsy features of alcoholic hepatitis(ah)patients on complementary and alternative medicines(CAMs)and to analyze the retrieved drugs for chemical and toxic components linked to drug-induced liver ***:We retrospectively assessed clinical,biochemical and liver bi-opsy features of ah patients on CAM with drug-induced liver injury(ah-CAM,n=27)and compared them to a control group(classical ah,n=29)on standard of *** without liver biopsy evaluation and other causes for liver dis-ease were *** of the CAMs(n=42)from pa-tients were retrieved and assessed for chemical and ***:All were males,and significantly worse clinical pre-sentation,biochemical severity,and liver disease scores were notable in patients with *** Ayurve-dic-polyherbal formulations were the most commonly used *** liver histology,varying grades of severe-necrosis,severe hepatocellular,canalicular,cholangiolar cholestasis with predominant lymphocytic-portal-inflammation and varying grades of interface-hepatitis were noted in *** of CAMs revealed presence of heavy metals up to 100,000 times above detectable range and adulter-ants,such as antibiotics,chemotherapy agents,nonsteroi-dal anti-inflammatory drugs,alcohols,antidepressants,anxiolytics,and recreational *** follow up,a signifi-cantly higher number of patients with ah on CAM died at end of 1,3-and-6-months compared to controls(37%vs.83%,29%vs.62%,18%vs.52%respectively;pah and CAM-related drug-induced liver injury have extremely poor short-term survival in the absence of liver transplantation compared to those patients with ah on evidence-based *** transplant referral and educating on and curbing of CAM use in severe liver disease through strict monitoring of unregulated traditional health practices can help ease the burden of liver-related death.

This study presents a systematic review of the literature pertaining to dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs), in order to anticipate the direction and speed of change in technology trend. To study the general progression in DSSC research, we have assessed the evolution in annual DSSCs publications and their citations. Further, in order to identify the intellectual bases, we have also classified the journals, authors, institutes, and countries according to their scientific productivity in the field of DSSCs research during the period of 2007–2017.

Comparison of the efficacy and safety of once-daily dosing and on-demand use of udenafil for type 2 diabetic patients with erectile dysfunction

We compared the efficacy and safety between once-daily dosing and on-demand use of udenafil for type 2 diabetic patients with erectile dysfunction （ed）. A multi-center, randomized, open-label, parallel-group, 12-week study was conducted. 161 patients who improved with on-demand 200 mg of udenafil according to Sexual Encounter Profile （SEP） diary Question 2 and 3 （Q2 and Q3） were randomized into 200 mg on-demand （n = 80） or 50 mg once-daily （n = 81） dosing groups for 8 weeks. The dosing period was followed by a 4-week treatment-free period. The primary efficacy endpoint was the change of the International Index of Erectile Function （IIEF） erectile function domain （EFD） score. The secondary efficacy endpoints included changes to the SEP diary Q2, Q3, IIEF Q3, Q4, other domains of IIEF, Global Assessment Question, and shift to the normal rate （EFD 〉 26）. Vascular endothelial markers were also assessed. The IIEF-EFD score of both groups improved after 8 weeks of treatment （P 〈 0.0001）. There was no statistically significant difference between two groups. Improvement was not maintained after the treatment-free follow-up period. Similar results were observed in the secondary efficacy endpoints. There was also no significant difference in vascular endothelial markers. Daily udenafil was well-tolerated, and there was no significant difference in the adverse drug reactions and adverse events between the two groups. Flushing and headache were the most frequent adverse events. Both regimens improved ed in diabetic patients and were well-tolerated. Further studies are needed to assess the effect of daily udenafil treatment in diabetic patients.

目的：探讨伽玛刀对脑深部和功能区海绵状血管瘤（ＣＡ）的治疗效果及有关问题。方法：采用伽玛刀对６７例大脑半球深部、丘脑、基底节及脑干海绵状血管瘤进行治疗。结果：随访３月～８年（平均２．６年），评价其治疗效果，２例死于其他疾病，６例行手术治疗。在ＭＲＩ检查随访５９例中，病变稳定好转率达９８％，并且年再出血发生率大大降低。结论：应用伽玛刀治疗脑深部及险要部位的ＣＡ是一种无创伤、效果比较好的方法。
