Patch testing and cross sensitivity study of adverse cutaneous drug reactions due to anticonvulsants: A preliminary report

AIM To evaluate the utility of patch test and cross-sensitivity patterns in patients with adverse cutaneous drug reactions(ACDR) from common anticonvulsants. METHODS Twenty-four(M:F = 13:11) patients aged 18-75 years with ACDR from anticonvulsants were patch tested 3-27 mo after complete recovery using carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbitone, lamotrigine, and sodium valproate in 10%, 20% and 30% conc. in pet. after informed consent. Positive reactions persisting on D3 and D4 were considered significant. RESULTS Clinical patterns were exanthematous drug rash with or without systemic involvement(DRESS) in 18(75%), Stevens-Johnsons syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis(SJS/TEN) overlap and TEN in 2(8.3%) patients each, SJS and lichenoid drug eruption in 1(4.2%) patient each, respectively. The implicated drugs were phenytoin in 14(58.3%), carbamazepine in 9(37.5%), phenobarbitone in 2(8.3%), and lamotrigine in 1(4.7%) patients,respectively. Twelve(50%) patients elicited positive reactions to implicated drugs; carbamazepine in 6(50%), phenytoin alone in 4(33.3%), phenobarbitone alone in 1(8.3%), and both phenytoin and phenobarbitone in 1(8.33%) patients, respectively. Cross-reactions occurred in 11(92%) patients. Six patients with carbamazepine positive patch test reaction showed cross sensitivity with phenobarbitone, sodium valproate and/or lamotrigine. Three(75%) patients among positive phenytoin patch test reactions had cross reactions with phenobarbitone, lamotrigine, and/or valproate. CONCLUSION Carbamazepine remains the commonest anticonvulsant causing ACDRs and cross-reactions with other anticonvulsants are possible. Drug patch testing appears useful in DRESS for drug imputability and cross-reactions established clinically.

Preparation, characterization and luminescence behavior of some samarium complexes

The synthesis of luminescent complexes of Sm(III) with the general formula [Sm(L)_(3)·(X)] was done in powder form. In the formula, L is 6-methyl-4-oxo-4 H-1-benzopyran-3-carboxaldehyde and X represents 2H_(2)O(C1), 1,10-phenanthroline(C2), 2,20-bipyridine(C3);bathophenanthroline(C4) and neocuproine(C5). The complexes were characterized by using various analytical and spectroscopic tools like elemental analysis, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry(ESI–MS+), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), ultraviolet–visible(UV–Vis) spectroscopy, thermo-gravimetric analysis/differential thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA/DTG), field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), powder X-ray diffraction(XRD), and photoluminescence(PL)studies. TGA/DTG showed high thermal stability of synthesized complexes. Powder XRD depicts that the average particle size lies in the nano-range. On monitoring at the excitation wavelength of 370 nm, the complexes display characteristic luminescence peaks of Sm(III) at ~564,~600 and ~647 nm assigned to^(4)G_(5/2)→^(6)H_(5/2),^(4)G_(5/2)→^(6)H_(7/2), and ^(4)G_(5/2)→6H9/2 transitions, respectively, with the most intense transition at ~600(orange emission) and~647 nm(bright red emission) in liquid and powder state, respectively. The investigations demonstrate that the synthesized novel complexes might be practically useful in electroluminescent devices, bio-assays, and liquid lasers due to their attractive photoluminescent properties.

Hybrid Image Compression-Encryption Scheme Based on Multilayer Stacked Autoencoder and Logistic Map

Secure transmission of images over a communication channel, with limited data transfer capacity, possesses compression and encryption schemes. A deep learning based hybrid image compression-encryption scheme is proposed by combining stacked auto-encoder with the logistic map. The proposed structure of stacked autoencoder has seven multiple layers, and back propagation algorithm is intended to extend vector portrayal of information into lower vector space. The randomly generated key is used to set initial conditions and control parameters of logistic map. Subsequently, compressed image is encrypted by substituting and scrambling of pixel sequences using key stream sequences generated from logistic *** proposed algorithms are experimentally tested over five standard grayscale images. Compression and encryption efficiency of proposed algorithms are evaluated and analyzed based on peak signal to noise ratio(PSNR), mean square error(MSE), structural similarity index metrics(SSIM) and statistical,differential, entropy analysis respectively. Simulation results show that proposed algorithms provide high quality reconstructed images with excellent levels of security during transmission..

Antimicrobial ability and growth promoting effects of feed supplemented with probiotic bacterium isolated from gut microflora of Cirrhinus mrigala

The present studies were conducted to isolate, select, identify and characterize gut bacteria as antimicrobial and growth promoting agent for the feed of economically important fish Cirrhinus mrigala. Intestinal microflora were isolated, counted, and identified, and their in vitro antibacterial properties were determined. The results have revealed that occurrence of Gram-negative rods was around 75% and of Gram-positive rods was 25%. Among the isolates Gram-positive were maintained in nutrient agar slants at 4℃. Of these, eight strains were replica-plated on agar seeded with Aeromonas hydrophila and only one strain CM2（C. mrigala 2） exhibited antibacterial properties in vitro showing inhibition against fish pathogen by well diffusion assay. This isolated strain was identified as Bacillus cereus. This bacterium was mass cultured and incorporated in the pelleted diet（40% protein and 18 k J g^–1 gross energy） of C. mrigala to investigate its effect on growth performance, digestibility, nutrient retention and activities of digestive enzymes. The results of feeding trial revealed significantly（P〈0.05） high growth performance in terms of specific growth rate, growth percent gain in body weight（BD）（272.4±1.5）%, high apparent protein digestibility（（79.9±0.30）%） and low food conversion ratio in the group of fishes fed on diet containing B. cereus in comparison to the fishes fed on diet without probiotics. The carcass composition also revealed high accumulation of proteins（（15.28±0.15） g 100 g^–1） in fishes fed on diet containing probiotics. Intestinal enzyme activities of protease, amylase and cellulase were also significantly（P〈0.05） high in the group of fishes fed on diet supplemented with probiotics indicating the extracellular enzyme production by B. cereus. These results indicate that probiotics stimulate the digestion through the supply of digestive enzyme and certain essential nutrients to animals. Nuclear magnetic resonance based structure of the protoberberine alkaloid coralyne and its self-association by spectroscopy techniques

Coralyne is an important alkaloid due to its anti-cancer and other medicinal *** targets DNA in cells and acts as human topoisomerase-I poison,telomerase inhibitor and nucleic acid *** has high tendency to undergo self-association,which is a matter of concern for therapeutic *** understanding of its interaction with DNA requires precise knowledge of chemical shifts in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance(NMR)spectra besides *** present study is the first report of a complete assignment of all 1H/13C resonances in NMR spectra of coralyne in DMSO-d6 using one dimensional 1H/13C and two dimensional NMR *** chemical shift of all proton and several 13C resonances have also been obtained in D2O and *** same has been calculated using Density Functional Theory(DFT).NMR spectra of coralyne show upfield shift of 0.6e1.2 ppm in aromatic ring protons suggesting stacking *** from 11 intra molecular NOE cross peaks in 2D 1H e1H ROESY spectra,3 short distance NOE correlations,H6e10OCH3,H5e10OCH3 and H12e16CH3,give direct independent evidence of the formation of a stacked *** absorbance,fluorescence,circular dichroism and fluorescence lifetime experiments conducted in the present investigations corroborate results obtained by NMR.

In present work,five novel europium complexes[Eu(L)3·Phen(2),Eu(L)3·Bipy(3),Eu(L)3·Neo(4),Eu(L)3·Biq(5)and Eu(L)3·Batho(6)]were synthesized,derived from[Eu(L)3·2 H_(2)O](1)complex by using ligand(HL)5-hydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)-4 H-pyran-4-one and coligands 1,10-phenanthroline,bipyridine,neocuproine,2,2’-biquinoline and *** order to seek excellent photoluminescent properties,coligands were introduced in the complexes to form a rigid conjugated system,thus enhancing luminescence properties of *** synthesized complexes reveal four narrow characteristic emission lines of Eu(III)consistent with ^(5)D0→^(7)FJ transitions,where J=0,1,2 and 3 at about 580,595,614 and 650 nm,*** ^(5)D0→^(7)F_(2) transition is responsible for strong red *** coordinate diagram also indicates that x,y coordinates lie in deep red *** data are in favour of high thermal stability of synthesized *** to their high thermal stability and strong red luminescence,these complexes might be used in fabrication of optoelectronic devices.

Potential of biocontrol agents against Ganoderma lucidum causing basal stem rot in mesquite(Prosopis cineraria)in arid regions of India

This study investigates the potential of native biocontrol agents(BCAs)as controls against Ganoderma lucidum causing root rot mortality in Indian *** disease is prevalent in sandy soils where trees grow under rainfed *** addition,a beetle namely A canthophorus serraticornis damages the roots,resulting in increasing vulnerability of the host thereby allowing easy of the *** dual culture tests,Ganoderma infected cowpea root bit experiment and compatibility with insecticides revealed that the three BCAs(Trichoderma longibrachiatum,***,and Aspergillus nidulans)significantly inhibited *** mycelial *** highest mycelial growth inhibition(47.6%)was recorded after 96 h followed by 39.8%and 29.3%at 72 and 48 h,respectively,by *** free filtrates of ***,***,and *** were superior in inhibiting mycelium growth.A low concentration(3 ml)of *** was more effective in inhibiting mycelium growth compared to other *** P rosopis julifl ora compost and onion residue compost amendments as food substrates favored the growth of these BCAs,which ultimately reduced the viability of Ganoderma-colonized root bits of *** on compatibility between insecticides and BCAs suggests that ***,harzianum and *** can be combined with phorate or chloropyriphos(both organophosphates)at variable concentrations if amended together for partially infected trees,or as a prophylactic measure in healthy *** studies demonstrate that there is considerable opportunity for using native BCAs against *** in managing root rot disease.
