A Rapid Method for determination of Some Phenolic Acids in Brazilian Tropical Fruits of Mangaba(Hancornia speciosa Gomes)and Umbu(Spondias tuberosa Arruda camara)by UPLc

A rapid chromatographic method for the determination of six phenolic acids (chlorogenic, ferulic, gallic, p-coumaric, protocatechuic and vanillic acids) by ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLc), was developed and applied for Brazilian tropical fruits mangaba (Hancornia speciosa Gomes) and umbu (Spondias tuberosa Arruda camara). A multivariate statistical experimental design was employed to optimize analytical conditions (solvent A, solvent B concentrations and flow rates). Samples were cleaned-up by solid-phase extraction (SPE) with different solvents (methanol and acetone) employing SPE cartridges (amine and octadecyl-silane). The method using dihydrogen potassium phosphate 5 mmoL as solvent A and 8% acetonitrile as solvent B presented limits of detection varying from 14 to 94 ***, limits of quantification from 39 to 277 ***-1 with 2 μL of injection volume while total run time for all six compounds was only 9.6 minutes. Higher recovery was obtained by extraction with methanol-acetone of 69.51% to 72.59% for protocatechuic acid and 69.58% to 126.31% for the chlorogenic acid. The concentrations of chlorogenic, p-coumaric and ferulic acids in mangaba extracts were 113.4, 32.1 and 1.5 μg.g-1, respectively while concentrations of chlorogenic, protocatechuic, gallic, vanillic, ferulic and p-coumaric acids present in umbu fruit were 118.9, 141.3, 3.5, 2.5, 2.2 and 1.8 μg.g-1, respectively.

Polygenic Profile and Magnitude Impact of Inflammatory Response in Soccer Athletes

The practice of soccer involves carrying-out actions of high intensity, which demand a great generation of eccentric strength, which in turn results in an increase in the inflammatory response after training practice and game matches. The study aimed to investigate, in combination and individually, the association of 28 polymorphisms with the inflammatory responses of soccer athletes. The sample consisted of 47 male under-20 soccer athletes who belong to clubs in the first division of Brazilian soccer. Blood samples were collected at Pre, and 03, 24, and 48 hours after the training session to evaluate the inflammatory responses (hematological analyzes (hemogram), creatine phosphokinase (cK), high sensitivity quantitative c-reactive protein (cRP), tumor necrosis factor-alpha, (TNFα), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1)). DNA was obtained through scraping of buccal cells, where a sterile swab was rubbed on the inner side of the mouth of each participant 06 times. The database was built using the TruSeq DNA PcRFree kit (Illumina®) and the covaris equipment for shearing genomic DNA (gDNA) by ultrasound. Of the analyzed SNPs, 09 (AcTN3 rs1815739, cOL5A1 rs12722, cOL5A1 rs3196378, HGF rs5745697, IGF1 rs35767, IL-6 rs1800795, MMP3 rs679620, SLc30A8 rs13266634, SOX15 rs4227) were individually associated with biomarkers and 07 SNPs, (cOL5A1 rs12722, cOL5A1 rs3196378, cOL5A1 rs1800012, HGF rs5745697, IGF1 rs35767, IL-6 rs1800795 and MMP3 rs679620) analyzed in combination, explained 16% to 40% of the variation of inflammatory responses in soccer athletes. The results suggest that the genotypic profile can be taken into account for a more individualized distribution of the training load, along with the elaboration of recovery strategies for high-level athletes between training sessions and games of high physical and physiological demand.

Mammals can show conspicuous behavioral responses to thermal variation,including changes in movement *** used an integrative approach to understand how environmental temperature can drive the movement behavior of a mammal with low capacity for physiological thermoregulation,the giant anteater(Myrmecophaga tridactyla).We tracked 52 giant anteaters in 7 areas throughout the Brazilian *** estimated the distance moved,area used,use of forest areas,and mean environmental temperature for each monitoring day of each *** modeled these data with Mixed Structural Equations—considering the possible interactions between our variables and controlling for sex and body *** anteaters reduced displacement and increased forest use with decreasing environmental temperature,probably because of their low body heat *** is possible that they reduce distance moved and area used by reducing the duration of *** decreasing temperature,forest habitats become warmer than open ones,besides buffer rain and chilly *** displacement and using forests are important strategies to reduce body heat loss and the energetic costs of ***,decreasing movement can limit food access and,consequently,***,we highlight the importance of forests as thermal *** increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events,we showed the need to preserve forest patches to offer suitable conditions for tropical mammals’behavioral *** this context,policies favoring deforestation on Brazilian territory are especially ***,we emphasize the need of integrative approaches to understand the complex interactions between organisms and the environment.

Antidiabetic therapy and increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma in chronic liver disease

AIM： To explore the association between hepatocellular carcinoma （Hcc） and type 2 diabetes mellitus, describe the temporal relations between the onset of diabetes and the development of Hcc and evaluate the possible effects of antidiabetic therapy on Hcc risk,METHODS： We recruited 465 Hcc patients, 618 with cirrhosis and 490 control subjects. We evaluated the odds ratio （OR） for Hcc by univariate and multivariate analysis. Moreover, OR for Hcc in diabetic subjects treated with insulin or sulphanylureas and with metformin were ***： The prevalence of diabetes mellitus was 31.2% in Hcc, 233% in cirrhotic patients and 12.7% in the control group. By univariate and multivariate analysis, the OR for Hcc in diabetic patients were respectively 3.12 （cI 2.2-4.4, P 〈 0.001） and 2.2 （cI 1.2-4.4, P = 0.01）. In 84.9% of cases, type 2 diabetes mellitus was present before the diagnosis of Hcc. Moreover, we report an OR for Hcc of 2.99 （cI 1.34-6.65, P = 0.007） in diabetic patients treated with insulin or sulphanylureas, and an OR of 0.33 （cI 0.1-0.7, P = 0.006） in diabetic patients treated with ***： Our study confirms that type 2 diabetes mellitus is an independent risk factor for Hcc and pre-exists in the majority of Hcc patients. Moreover, in male patients with type 2 diabetes meUitus, our data shows a direct association of Hcc with insulin and sulphanylureas treatment and an inverse relationship with metformin therapy.

The Use of Data Mining Techniques in Rockburst Risk Assessment

Rockburst is an important phenomenon that has affected many deep underground mines around the world. An understanding of this phenomenon is relevant to the management of such events, which can lead to saving both costs and lives. Laboratory experiments are one way to obtain a deeper and better understanding of the mechanisms of rockburst. In a previous study by these authors, a database of rockburst laboratory tests was created; in addition, with the use of data mining （DM） techniques, models to predict rockburst maximum stress and rockburst risk indexes were developed. In this paper, we focus on the analysis of a database of in situ cases of rockburst in order to build influence diagrams, list the factors that interact in the occurrence of rockburst, and understand the relationships between these factors. The in situ rockburst database was further analyzed using different DM techniques ranging from artificial neural networks （ANNs） to naive Bayesian classifiers. The aim was to predict the type of rockburst-that is, the rockburst level-based on geologic and construction characteristics of the mine or tunnel. conclusions are drawn at the end of the paper.

Discrepancies between the responses to skin prick test to food and respiratory antigens in two subtypes of patients with irritable bowel syndrome

AIM:To compare the response to skin prick tests (SPTs) to food antigens (FAs) and inhalant allergens (IAs) in patients with two subtypes of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and healthy controls. METHODS:We compared the results of SPTs for IAs and FAs in 87 volunteers divided into three groups:diarrhea predominant IBS (D-IBS) GroupⅠ(n = 19), constipation predominant IBS (c-IBS) Group Ⅱ (n = 17), and normal controls Group Ⅲ (n = 51). RESULTS:Of the 285 tests (171 for FAs and 114 for IAs) performed in GroupⅠwe obtained 45 (26.3%) positive responses for FA and 23 (20.1%) for IA. Of the 153 tests for FA in Group Ⅱ, we obtained 66 (20.1%) positive responses, and of the 102 tests for IA, we obtained 20 (19.6%) positive responses. Of the 459 tests for FA performed in Group Ⅲ, we obtained 39 (84%) positive responses, and of the 306 for IA, we obtained 52 (16.9%) positive responses. The numbers of positive responses were not significantly different between the three groups, but in the D-IBS group, the number of SPTFA responses differed significantly from those for the other two groups (P cONcLUSION:despite the small number of cases studied, the higher reactivity to FAs in GroupⅠcompared to Groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ adds new information, and suggests the presence of a possible alteration in intestinal epithelial function.

Purpose:This study aims at reporting the experience of a cancer hospital’s multiprofessional team with surgery patients in performing cytoreductive surgeries associated with hyperthermic intraperitoneal ***:It is a reporting about the experience of the multiprofessional team at Ac camargo cancer center’s surgery center,which operates in cytoreductive surgeries with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy,thus guaranteeing the surgery patient’s ***:No safety report for the surgery patient subjected to intraperitoneal hypothermic chemotherapy was found in the ***,the surgery center’s multiprofessional team’s practice was based on standards for manipulating chemotherapeutic agents and for safely administering medication.A checklist was elaborated for cytoreductive surgeries with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy based on the surgery patient safety protocol and the institution’s multiprofessional team’s ***:From the multiprofessional team’s experiences in cytoreductive surgeries with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy,the importance of elaborating a checklist to promote the quality of assistance and guarantee patient safety during the entire intraoperative phase became evident.

This paper is a report of a 34-year-old man with chronic renal failure undergoing continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis which developed peritonitis due to Geotricum candidum. The diagnosis was established by culture of dialysis fluid. The purpose of this report is to provide data on a fungal peritonitis due to a non-common agent.
