Isabel grape(IG)products have high contents of phenolic compounds and fiber recognized for their positive impacts on microorganisms associated with health benefits to *** study evaluated the effects of goat yogurts formulated with ingredients from IG integral valorization on the growth and metabolism of different probiotic strains,as well as on the population of selected bacterial groups and metabolic activity of human colonic microbiota in *** yogurts with IG ingredients(IGI)stimulated the growth of tested Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotic strains during a 48-h cultivation,as well as decreased the pH values and enhanced the organic acid *** yogurts with IGI increased the population of Lactobacillus *** Bifidobacterium *** a 24-h in vitro colonic fermentation.A stable Firmicutes:Bacteroidetes ratio close to 1 was found in media with goat yogurt formulations during the colonic fermentation,being similar to the effect caused by *** yogurt formulations with IGI caused increased production of short-chain fatty acids and sugar consumption during colonic *** yogurts with IGI should be a valuable strategy for development of novel added-value foods with beneficial effects on gut microbiota and human health.

Effects of bixin in high-fat diet-fed-induced fatty liver in C57BL/6J mice

Objective:To evaluate the anti-obesity activity of bixin(BIX) on C57BL/6J mice which were fed a high-fat diet(HFD) and to determine the mechanism of this ***:C57BL/6J mice were separately fed a high-calorie diet or a normal diet for 8weeks,then they were treated with BIX for another 13 *** administration for 13 weeks,the animals were *** adiposity,serum lipid level,and insulin resistance were *** addition,a histological assay of pancreas and liver,an evaluation of the inhibitory properties on pancreatic lipase,and a-amylase were ***:Administration of BIX significantly decreased the body weight gain,adipocyte size,fat pad weights,hepatic lipid levels in HFD-induced obese *** addition,reduced liver weight exhibited decreased serum leptin levels,malic enzyme,glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase,hepatic fatty acid synthase,aspartate aminotransferase,alanine aminotransferase and hepatic phosphatidate phosphohydrolase ***,superoxide dismutase,catalase,glutathione peroxidase,and glutathione levels were increased in hepatic *** also decreased lipid and carbohydrates absorption due to inhibition of pancreatic lipase and *** term supplementation of BIX significantly decreased hyperlipidemia,insulin resistance and glucose *** levels of hepatic steatosis and the islets of Langerhans appeared less shrunken in HFD-fed ***:The antiobesity effect of BIX appears to be associated at least in part,to its inhibitory effect on lipids and carbohydrate digestion enzymes such as pancreatic lipase,a-glucosidase,and *** results suggested that BIX also act as an antioxidant and may treat visceral obesity normalizing glucose levels,improving insulin resistance and increasing energy ***,achiote which has a main component,the carotenoid BIX,could be a viable food for the treatment of obesity and diabetes.

This study aimed at investigating the chitinase enzyme activity produced by chitinolytic bacteria from the skin of blue swimmer crab(Portunus pelagicus)and identification of the genus *** study consists of two stages:firstly,the qualitative and quantitative activity of the chitinase enzyme;and secondly,biochemical identification of the *** quantitative chitinase enzyme activity is measured using the UV-Vis spectrophotometer UV-Vis at the wavelength at 660 *** chitinase enzyme is obtained from the isolation of chitinolytic bacteria cultured within a media to grow solid chitin,which contains colloidal chitin substrate as chitinase inductor at the temperature of 30℃.The highest chitinolytic activity is obtained from the 24 h supernatant culture,with a value of enzyme activity at 0.149 U/*** and microscopic identification showed that the chitinolytic bacteria isolate R1,whereas the biochemical cell shows the characteristics of the genus Pseudomonas.

Preserving the literary past, looking to the future: the first Hong Kong Literature Database

In the last two decades of the 20th century, there has been an increasing interest in and emphasis on the study of the Hong Kong literature in both the academic and general public in Hong Kong. Recognizing the emergent need of the resources on Hong Kong literature, the University Library System of the Chinese University of Hong Kong set up the Hong Kong Literature Database (the “Database”), which was the first Chinese literature database in the Internet in 2000. The paper will examine how the database is constructed using XML technology and metadata schema. The database also employs Unicode UTF-8 as the internal code. A mapping table for traditional and simplified Chinese characters was created based on Unihan and is used behind the scene so that a user can either input traditional or simplified Chinese characters and retrieval will give both traditional and simplified Chinese characters. Currently 65% of journals use OCR technology so that full-text searching is possible. The Chinese OCR technology will be examined in greater detail. Special features of the Database such as, page-by-page browse mode, posi- tion-highlight for full-page newspaper, linking Table-Of-Contents and book jackets from the Library catalogue, etc. are described. The paper will also bring out the problem of massive downloading and compare the state-of-the-art technology and their short- comings. This paper shows how the Hong Kong Literature Database facilitates future collaboration and data exchange by using open standard, shareable structure and the latest technology.

Photo-irradiation of 2-（5-methylthiophen-2-yl）-3-[（naphthalen-2-yl）methoxy]-4H-chromen-4-ones yielded the fascinating angular tetracyclic products via cyclization involving both 2-thienyl ring and naphthylmethoxy group via 1,4-biradical generated in the Norrish type-II process. The stereochemical dispositions of the products were determined by MM2 energy minimized programme and spectroscopic analysis.

Combined estimation of state and feed-back gain for optimal load frequency control is *** frequency control(LFC)addresses the problem of controlling system frequency in response to disturbance,and is one of main research areas in power system operation.A well acknowledged solution to this problem is feedback stabilization,where the Linear Quadratic Regulator(LQR)based controller computes the feedback gain K from the known system parameters and implements the control,assuming the availability of all the state ***,this approach restricts control to cases where the state variables are readily available and the system parameters are ***,by estimating the states continuously from available measurements of some of the states,it can accommodate dynamic changes in the system *** paper proposes the technique of augmenting the state variables with controller *** introduces a non-linearity to the augmented system and thereby the estimation is performed using an Extended Kalman *** results in producing controller gains that are capable of controlling the system in response to changes in load demand,system parameter variation and measurement noise.

A multiobjective routing model for Multiprotocol Label Switching networks with multiple service types and traffic splitting is presented in this paper. The routing problem is formulated as a multiobjective mixed-integer program, where the considered objectives are the minimization of the bandwidth routing cost and the minimization of the load cost in the network links with a constraint on the maximal splitting of traffic trunks. Two different exact methods are developed for solving the formulated problem, one based on the classical constraint method and another based on a modified constraint method. A very extensive experimental study, with results on network performance measures in various reference test networks and in randomly generated networks, is also presented and its results are discussed.

Role of chemotherapy in prostate cancer

Chemotherapy in prostate cancer （PCa） has undergone dramatic landscape changes. While earlier studies utilized varying chemotherapy regimens which were found to be largely palliative in nature and hardly resulted in durable or meaningful responses, docetaxel resulted in the first chemotherapy agent that showed improvement in overall survival in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer （mCRPC）. However, combination chemotherapy or any agents added to docetaxel have failed to yield incremental benefits. The improvement in overall survival as well as secondary endpoints of prostate-specific antigen （PSA） and time to recurrence when using docetaxel in the metastatic hormone-sensitive state has changed the standard of care for treatment of newly diagnosed de novo metastatic PCa. There are also promising results in locally advanced PCa and high-risk PCa in both the neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings. This review summarizes the historical as well as the more contemporary use of chemotherapeutic agents in PCa in varying states and phases of disease.

The vitality of European forests continues to decline due to new pests and diseases,climate-change related disturbances and high loads of atmospheric nitrogen *** soil health is a major factor underpinning the low vitality of West-European *** tree species with soil ameliorative traits is proposed as an avenue to counteract soil acidification and improve overall forest *** we evaluate the impact of black cherry(Prunus serotina Ehrh.),a known rich litter species,on the vitality of neighboring pedunculate oak(Quercus robur L.)in ten mixed forests on sand in Germany,Belgium and the *** found that black cherry admixture increases foliar N and P to a surplus whereas it causes deficiencies in foliar Mg,thereby resulting in an overall negative effect on oak foliar nutrient ***,defoliation of oak leaves by herbivory decreases with the proximity of black *** structural equation modelling(SEM),we tested the hypothesized‘improved soil health’*** analyses showed that black cherry admixture leads to lower accumulation in the humus layer,resulting in higher soil base saturation which has a positive effect on foliar Ca yet a negative effect on total ***,the SEM illustrated that herbivory of oak leaves decreases when black cherry is admixed,both via dilution and improved soil *** effects of black cherry on oak vitality via“improved soil health”in our SEM are however small in comparison to direct ***,our study showed that the combined positive and negative impacts of black cherry on oak vitality are limited,which tempers the potential benefits of using the rich litter species to counteract oak decline via improved soil health–yet,the concern of black cherry as an invasive alien species negatively affecting the vitality of mature pedunculate oak trees may also be exaggerated.
