Crustal thickness beneath Atlas region from gravity,topographic,sediment and seismic data

The Atlas region in northwest Africa is characterized by the Quaternary volcanism and elevated topography with past complex tectonic mitigation between the African and European *** of this atypical region has left indubitably imprin.s in crustal architectonics,mainly regarding the crustal thickness as well as the crustal density *** knowledge of crustal thickness variations is of a significant interest,since it provides a crucial constraint to geodynamic and geophysical modelling of this *** this study,we use gravity,topographic,bathymetric and sediment data together with results of seismic surveys to image the Moho topography beneath the Atlas *** Bouguer gravity anomalies used for a gravimetric Moho recovery are obtained from the free-air gravity anomalies after subtracting the gravitational contributions of topography,bathymetry and *** regional gravimetric Moho inversion constrained on seismic data is carried out by applying a regularized inversion technique based on Gauss-Newton’s formulation of improved Bott’s method,while adopting Earth’s spherical *** numerical result reveals relatively significant Moho depth variations in the Moroccan Atlas,with minima of approximately 24 km along continental margins of the Mediterranean Sea and maxima exceeding 51 km beneath the Rif *** Moho depth beneath the West African Craton varies from 32 km in its southern margin to 45 km beneath the Middle *** Tell Atlas is characterized by the shallow Moho depth of approximately 22 km and further deepening to 42 km towards the northern edge of the Aures *** findings indicate a limited tectonic shortening of the High Atlas with the crustal thickness mostly within 36-42 *** discrepancies between the Rif Cordillera and the Atlas Mountains suggest that the hypothesis of isostatic compensation cannot be fully established.

Predictive factors for compliance with transanal irrigation for the treatment of defecation disorders

AIM To investigate compliance with transanal irrigation(TAI) one year after a training session and to identify predictive factors for *** The compliance of one hundred eight patients [87 women and 21 men; median age 55 years(range 18-83)] sufferin. from constipation or fecal incontinence(FI) was retrospectively assessed. The patients were trained in TAI over a four-year period at a single institution. They were classified as adopters if they continued using TAI for at least one year after beginning the treatment or as non-adopters if they stopped. Predictive factors of compliance with TAI were based on pretreatment assessments and trainingprogress. The outcomes of the entire cohort of patients who had been recruited for the TAI treatment were expressed in terms of *** Forty-six of the 108(43%) trained patients continued to use TAI one year after their training session. The patients with FI had the best results, with 54.5% remaining compliant with TAI. Only one-third of the patients who complained of slow transit constipation or obstructed defecation syndrome continued TAI. There was an overall discontinuation rate of 57%. The most common reason for discontinuing TAI was the lack of efficacy(41%). However, 36% of the patients who discontinued TAI gave reasons independent of the efficacy of the treatment such as technical problems(catheter expulsion, rectal balloon bursting, instilled water leakage or retention, pain durin. irrigation, anal bleeding, anal fissure) while 23% said that there were too many constraints. Of the patients who reported discontinuing TAI, the only predictive factor was the progress of the training(OR = 4.9, 1.3-18.9, P = 0.02).CONCLUSION The progress of the training session was the only factor that predicted patient compliance with TAI.

Epidemiological Aspects of Diabetic Retinopathy at the Center of the Application of the Diploma of Specialised Studies in Ophthalmology (Cadeso)/Donka-Conakry

Purpose: The authors analyzed the epidemiological and clinical aspects of diabetic retinopathy at the Center for the Application of the Specialized Studies Diploma in Ophthalmology, Gamal Abdel Nasser University (CHU/ Donka) Conakry. Diabetic retinopathy (eye damage: eye and retina) is a serious complication of diabetes that affects 50% of type 2 diabetic patients. The eyes are particularly sensitive to damage to a small vessel. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the retinal localization of diabetic micro angiopathy resulting in impaired blood flow in the affected territories, the consequences of which will determine the clinical manifestations of the disease. DR is the leading cause of vision loss in adults of working age. Patients and Methods: This is a longitudinal prospective study carried out at CADES/O concerning 198 diabetic patients. The selection criteria were that the media be transparent and the fundus accessible over a period of six months from February to July 2018. Results: A total of 73 patients (37%) presented with diabetic retinopathy with an average age of 49.5 +/−9 years. The sex ratio (M/F) was 0.6 with a female predominance of 59%. Liberal profession patients were the most numerous 47.5%. Type 2 diabetes was the most common (85.86%). Diabetes fundus assessment was the most common reason for consultation (52%). Arterial hypertension was the most incriminated risk factor (45.45%) followed by the poor balance of diabetes (40.90%), and the age of diabetes (28.28%). 9.5% had diabetic retinopathy complicated by rubella iris, neovascular glaucoma and retinal detachment. Conclusion: Diabetic retinopathy is a common condition for which early detection and regular monitorin. must be the rule to prevent, slow down or avoids irreversible blindness if possible, induced by this pathology by a good balance of diabetes and good control of associated risk factors.

基于对中藏药材狼毒大戟的药用价值及其安全性的考究,笔者通过查阅藏医药古籍及相关文献,从狼毒大戟的药理活性、毒性实验以及藏医中狼毒大戟的炮制方法、组方特点和临床价值等方面进行分析。发现狼毒大戟不仅有着可观的药用价值,而且在低剂量或治疗剂量下对正常组织及细胞没有毒性或毒性作用较小,尤其是经过炮制加工后更是起到了减毒存效甚至增效的双重作用。因此,在未来研究中若能考证以狼毒大戟为主的藏药方剂及其药理作用,将为狼毒大戟的进一步开发利用提供有力的参考依据,更能为狼毒大戟的临床治疗提供更多的选择。

SPECT-computed tomography in rats with TNBS-induced colitis: A first step toward functional imaging

AIM To assess the feasibility of SPECT-computed tomography(CT) in rats with trin.trobenzene sulfonic acid(TNBS)-induced acute colitis and confront it with model inflammatory *** Colitis was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats by intrarectal injection of TNBS(n = 10) while controls received vehicle(n = 10). SPECT-CT with intravenous injection of 10 MBq of 67Ga-Citrate was performed at day 2. SPECT-CT criteria were colon wall thickness andmaximal wall signal intensity. Laboratory parameters were assessed: colon weight:length ratio, colon cyclooxygenase-2 expression by western blot and histological inflammatory *** Colon weight/length ratio, colon COX-2 expression and histological inflammatory score were significantly higher in the TNBS group than in the control group(P = 0.0296, P < 0.0001, P = 0.0007 respectively). Pixel max tend to be higher in the TNBS group than in the control group but did not reach statistical significance(P = 0.0662). Maximal thickness is significantly increased in the TNBS group compared to the control group(P = 0.0016) while colon diameter is not(P = 0.1904). Maximal thickness and colon diameter were correlated to colon COX-2 expression(P = 0.0093, P = 0.009 respectively) while pixel max was not(P = 0.22). Maximal thickness was significantly increased when inflammation was histologically observed(P = 0.0043) while pixel max and colon diameter did not(P = 0.2452, P = 0.3541, respectively).CONCLUSION SPECT-CT is feasible and easily distinguished control from colitic rats.

The quantitative interpretation of gravity anomalies due to shallow structures needs separation between long wavelength anomalies(regional anomalies) and short wavelength anomalies(residual anomalies).The regional-residual field separation can be carried out using the polynomial *** this case, the so-called regional field of order n is treated as a polynomial of degree *** present study shows that the degree n must vary between a smallest value n_(min) and a maximum value n_(max).This article presents a method to process gravity data that allows determination of n_(min) and n_(max) for a given study *** apply the method to gravity data of the South-West Cameroon *** this chosen study area, we find that regional anomaly maps of orders ranging from 1 to 9 and residual anomaly maps of orders ranging from 1 to 8 can be used for suitable *** analyses show that one may need residual anomaly maps of several orders to perform satisfactory quantitative interpretation of the different intrusive bodies found in a given area.

Recurrent massive bleeding due to dissecting intramural hematoma of the esophagus: Treatment with therapeutic angiography

Spontaneous or traumatic intramural bleeding of the esophagus, which is often associated with overlying mucosal dissection, constitutes a rare spectrum of esophageal injury called dissecting intramural hematoma of the esophagus (DIHE). Chest pain, swallowing diffi culty, and minor hematemesis are common, which resolve spontaneously in most cases. This case report describes a patient with spontaneous DIHE with recurrent massive bleeding which required critical management and highlights a potential role for therapeutic angiography as an alternative to surgery.
