Liver tra.splantation in the management of cholangiocarcinoma:Evolution and contemporary advances

Cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is an aggressive malignancy arising from the biliary epithelium.It may occur at any location along the biliary tree with the perihilar area being the most common.Prognosis is poor with 5-year overall survival at less than 10%,typically due to unresectable disease at presentation.Radical surgical resection with clear margins offers a chance of cure in patients with resectable tumours,but is frequently not possible due to locally advanced disease.On the other hand,orthotopic liver tra.splantation(LT)allows for a radical and potentially curative resection for these patients,but has been historically controversial due to the limited supply of donor grafts and previously poor outcomes.In patients with perihilar CCA,within specific criteria and following the implementation of a protocol combining neoadjuvant chemoradiation and LT,excellent results have been achieved in the last decades,resulting in its increasing acceptance as an indication for LT and the standard of care in several centres with significant experience.However,in intra.epatic CCA,the role of LT remains controversial and owing to dismal previous results it is not an accepted indication.Nevertheless,more recent studies have demonstra.ed favourable results with LT in early intra.epatic CCA,indicating that,under defined criteria,its role may increase in the future.This review highlights the history and contemporary advances of LT in CCA,with particular focus on the improving outcomes of LT in intra.epatic and perihilar CCA and future perspectives.

Intra.epatic cholangiocarcinoma(iCCA)is an aggressive malignancy with an increasing incidence worldwide and poor prognosis,despite several advances and continuous efforts to develop effective treatments.Complete surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment and offers a potentially curative option,but is only possible in less than a third of patients,owing to advanced disease.Chemotherapy is a well-established treatment in the adjuvant and palliative setting,however,confers limited benefit.Conventional radiotherapy is challenging due to local toxicity.With recent advances in stereotactic ablative radiotherapy(SABR),it is now possible to focus ablative beams of radiotherapy precisely aimed at tumours to minimise damage to surrounding viscera.This review details the history,technical background and application of SABR to iCCA,with directions for future research suggested.

Effect of Active Zeolite in the Pyrolysis of Polypropylene and Low Density Polyethylene Types of Plastic Waste

Plastic is a basic need for humans,but it has also caused big problems for the environment.Then,the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the type of plastic and the addition of a zeolite catalyst on the oil yield from the pyrolysis of plastic waste.The research stages were natural zeolite activation,pyrolysis reactor settings,pyrolysis of plastic waste(PP and LDPE types),and characterization.The results showed that the used natural zeolite had a mordenite phase and activated natural zeolite had a higher Si/Al ratio than the inactivated one.The addition of a zeolite catalyst had an effect on the produced yield.The yields of oil from plastic waste pyrolysis with zeolite catalyst for PP and LDPE plastics were about 75.9 and 76.9 w/w,respectively.The results of the GCMS analysis showed that the compounds of the pyrolysis oil were thought to be from the alkanes,cycloalkanes,alkenes,carboxylic acids with aromatic rings,and ketones.The results of the GC-MS test showed that the uncatalyzed pyrolysis product consists of compounds with a range of C5-C11 carbon chains.Meanwhile,the ranges of pyrolysis products with active zeolite catalyst were C6-C24 carbon chains.

Assessing phylogenetic relationships of Lycium samples using RAPD and entropy theory

Aim: To evaluate the phylogenetic relationships among related species of Lycium samples. Methods: Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting and lab-on-a-chip electrophoresis techniques were used to analyze the characteristics of Lycium species. Seven species and 3 varieties of Lycium were studied. Based on RAPD fingerprint data obtained from 11 primers, we proposed a new index, called dispersivity, using entropy theory and projection methods to depict the diversity of the DNA fingerprints. Results: Using the proposed dispersivity, primers were sorted and the dendrograms of the 7 species and 3 varieties of Lycium were constructed synthetically by merging primer information. Conclusion:Phylogenetic relationships among Lycium samples were constructed synthetically based on RAPD fingerprint data generated from 11 primers.

Ranking Modules for Integrate Testing Based on PageRank Algorithm

The testing industry need to prioritize the limited resources and focus on testing modules whose failure is mostly likely to cause faults.This paper discusses a method that can rank modules in a software package for integrate testing using the PageR ank algorithm.In this algorithm,a sequences of random walks iteratively can find a high likelihood of encountering a node,which is interpreted as it being an important performance resource.An experiment result prove that the proposed method actually can be used to prioritize testing of specific modules when testing resource are scarce.

Cluster-Based Advantages in the Innovation Process： The Diffusion of Nanotechnology in Two Chinese Cities

Researchers have shown that ＂cluster＂ is a more useful unit of analysis than ＂nation＂ in innovation studies. Clusters are characterized by interconnected organizations, shared resources and frequent knowledge flows. Within national boundaries, multiple clusters with different relative advantages may coexist, and exhibit very different innovation patterns. Yet, in studies of innovation in emerging economies, there remains little attention on cluster-based advantages, and how these advantages generate distinct patterns of innovation. To bridge this gap, this study analyzes the diffusion patterns of nanotechnology in two Chinese clusters--Beijing and Shanghai. With different relative advantages, the diffusion of nanotechnology has been oriented by different levels of ＂imitation＂ and ＂innovation＂ forces in the two Chinese clusters. This study applies the Bass Model to quantify imitation and innovation forces, and compare the resultant diffusion patterns of nanotechnology in the two clusters with other technologies. Supplementary qualitative data is also provided to show how Chinese scientists perceive their relative advantages in different clusters. Among other things, the findings suggest that scientists of emerging economies favor the learning-by-doing principle while utilizing external networks.

Spacing optimization of high power LED arrays for solid state lighting

This paper provides an analytical approach to determine the optimum pitch by utilizing a thermal resistance network, under the assumption of constant luminous efficiency. This work allows an LED array design which is mounted on a printed circuit board （PCB） attached with a heat sink subject to the natural convection cooling. Being validated by finite element （FE） models, the current approach can be shown as an effective method for the determination of optimal component spacing in an LED array assembly for SSL.

In 2011,a court near Milan,Italy,reduced the sentence of a convicted murderer from life to 20years in jail,after considering results from neuroimaging and genetic tests.These tests had been used to convince the judge that the trial's female defendant,Stefania Albertani,was suffering from partial mental illness (http:// ***/news/2011/09]italian_court_reduces_murde_s. html).The structural MRI images showed that Albertani's grey matter volume was different from the average volume of a randomly-selected group -10healthy women with no history of mental or neurological disorders -in brain areas including the anterior cingulate gyrus (ACC)and insula.The expert testimony concluded that "these alterations (of brain structures)have to be considered in causal relation to the psychiatric symptomatology of the murderer."

Contents of four active components in different commercial crude drugs and preparations of Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza)

AIM: To detect the contents of four active components of Salvia miltiorrhiza in various commercially available danshen crude drugs and preparations. METHODS: Commercially available danshen crude drugs from different sources, as well as danshen pills and intra.enous injection preparations containing danshen alone or in combination with other herbs were collected. The composition of these danshen samples was analyzed using HPLC. Specifically, the amounts of magnesium tanshinoate B (MTB), danshensu, isotanshinone IIA, and ctyptotanshinone were determined. In some of these samples, the content of MTB was further confirmed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer (LC-MS)/MS method. RESULTS: There were great variations in the amount of the four active ingredients in the commercially available danshen crude drugs and drug preparations in this study.
