High-spin states in neutron-rich 102Mo nucleus have been studied by measuring the prompt γ-rays in the spontaneous fission of 252Cf. The previous level scheme has been updated and some new levels and transitions are identified. The one-phonon γ-band is expanded and a band head level of the two-phonon γ- band is proposed. The systematic characteristics of yrast bands, one-phonon γ-bands, two-phonon γ-bands and quasi-particle bands in 102Mo, 104Mo and 106Mo are discussed.

A characterization of the clinical demographic features of patients with infection caused Acinetobacter baumannii, and the antibiotyping of the isolates recovered from these patients was undertaken, with a special reference to carbapenem-resistant variants, and their risk factors. This study was conducted retrospectively from january 2010 to March 2011 at a 616-bed tertiary care university hospital. Sixty-four patients were identified. Clinical and microbiological data were analyzed for risk factors and demographic features to derive relative risk and odds ratio. We identified 100 A. baumannii from 64 patients during 15 months period. Significant risk factors were working age (18 - 60 years), male gender, hospital stay (>1 week but Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae were the significant co-infecting agents. The antibiogram demonstrated multidrug resistance in a majority of the isolates. Relative risk associated with ventilator, diabetes, and surgery was higher in repeat isolates than in first isolates and were multidrug resistant. Repeat isolates were more resistant that the first isolates to most anti-acinetobacter agents, but the overall crude mortality was not significant during this study period, and couldn’t correlated to the choice of treatment. In conclusion, a resistance against all clinically used carbapenems, and colistin is rapidly increasing in repeat isolates of A. baumannii;leaves narrow therapeutic options to treat multidrug-resistant and pandrug-resistant A. baumannii infection. For the first time we report rising incidence of colistin resistance by 20 percent in repeat isolates, and is worrisome for healthcare centers. A combination therapy should be adopted to treat such infection to avoid the emergence of colistin-resistant phenotypes in the United States.

Levels in the neutron-rich ^105Mo nucleus have been investigated by observing prompt γ-rays following the spontaneous fission fragments of^252 Cf with the Gammasphere detector array. The yrast band has been confirmed and updated. The other two collective bands with the band head levels at 870.5 and 1534.6 keV are newly observed, and they are suggested as the candidates for one-phonon K= 9/2 and two-phonon K = 13/2 double γ-vibrational bands, respectively. Systematic characteristics of these bands have been discussed.

Rotational bands in neutron-rich 98Sr nucleus have been investigated by measuring high-fold prompt λ-ray coincidence events of the spontaneous fission of 252Cf with the Gammasphere detector array. A deformed K=3 band built on the 1838 keV level has been confirmed and extended. Another deformed K=6 band based on the 2535keV level has been established. Both the bands originate most probably from the v 2/9[404] v2/3[411] two-quasiparticle configuration with Ω=|Ω1-Ω2|and Ω=|Ω1- Ω2|, respectively. Based on the delay-coincidence measurements, the half-lives for the K=3 and K=6 band head levels have been obtained to be 13±3 ns and 4.5± 1.0 ns, respectively.

The onset of alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is initiated by different cell types in the liver and a number of different factors including: products derived from ethanol-induced inflammation, ethanol metabolites, and the indirect reactions from those metabolites. Ethanol oxidation results in the production of metabolites that have been shown to bind and form protein adducts, and to increase inflammatory, fibrotic and cirrhotic responses. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) has many deleterious effects and plays a significant role in a number of disease processes by increasing inflammatory cytokine release. In ALD, LPS is thought to be derived from a breakdown in the intestinal wall enabling LPS from resident gut bacterial cell walls to leak into the blood stream. The ability of adducts and LPS to independently stimulate the various cells of the liver provides for a two-hit mechanism by which various biological responses are induced and result in liver injury. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to evaluate the effects of a two-hit combination of ethanol metabolites and LPS on the cells of the liver to increase inflamma-tion and fi brosis, and play a role in the development and/or progression of ALD.

Background： In order to improve the efficiency of bovine sperm cryopreservation process, it is important to understand how spermatozoa respond to differences in temperature as well as the ability to recover its own metabolism. The combination between flow cytometry approach and antioxidant enzymes activity allows a more sensible evaluation of sperm cell during cryopreservation. The aim of this study was to evaluate sperm attributes and antioxidant enzymes activity during different stages of cryopreservation process. Semen samples from Holstein bulls （n = 4） were separated in 3 treatments： fresh （37 ℃）; cooled （5 ℃）; and thawed. Evaluation occurred at 0 h and 2 h after incubation. Membrane integrity, mitochondrial membrane potential （MMP） and DNA damages were evaluated by flow cytometry; activities of antioxidant enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase and gluthatione peroxidase were measured by spectrofotometry. Results： There was an increase in the percentage of sperm with DNA damage in the thawed group, compared to fresh and cooled, and for 2 hs of incubation when compared to 0 h. Considering MMP, there was an increase in the percentage of cells with medium potential in thawed group when compared to fresh and cooled groups. Opposingly, a decrease was observed in the thawed group considering high mitochondrial potential. Also in the thawed group, there was an increase on cells with damaged acrosome and membrane when compared to fresh and cooled groups. Significant correlations were found between antioxidant enzymes activity and membrane or mitochondrial parameters. Conclusion： Based on our results, we conclude that cryopreservation affects cellular and DNA integrity and that the critical moment is when sperm cells are exposed to freezing temperature. Also, our study indicates that intracellular antioxidant machinery （SOD and GPX enzymes） is not enough to control cryodamage.

Beh?et's disease(BD) is an idiopathic, chronic, relapsing, multi-systemic vasculitis characterized by recurrent oral and genital aphthous ulcers, ocular disease and skin lesions. Prevalence of BD is highest in countries along the ancient silk road from the Mediterranean basin to East Asia. By comparison, the prevalence in North American and Northern European countries is low. Gastrointestinal manifestations of Beh?et's disease are of particular importance as they are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Although ileocecal involvement is most commonly described, BD may involve any segment of the intestinal tract as well as the various organs within the gastrointestinal system. Diagnosis is based on clinical criteria- there are no pathognomonic laboratory tests. Methods for monitoring disease activity on therapy are available but imperfect. Evidence-based treatment strategies are lacking. Different classes of medications have been successfully used for the treatment of intestinal BD which include 5-aminosalicylic acid, corticosteroids, immunomodulators, and anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha monoclonal antibody therapy. Like inflammatory bowel disease, surgery is reserved for those who are resistant to medical therapy. A subset of patients have a poor disease course. Accurate methods to detect these patients and the optimal strategy for their treatment are not known at this time.
