Accuracy of ultrasound to identify chronic liver disease

AIM:To identify and assess studies reporting the diagnostic performance of ultrasound imaging for identifying chronic liver disease(CLD)in a high risk population. METHODS:A search was performed to identify studies investigating the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound imaging for *** authors independently used the quality assessment of diagnostic accuracy studies(QUADAS)checklist to assess the methodological quality of the selected ***-observer reliability of the QUADAS tool was assessed by measuring the degree of agreement(percent agreement,κstatistic)between the reviewers for each assessment prior to a *** characteristics of each study population, sensitivity and specificity results for the index tests, and results of any testing for observer agreement were extracted from the *** Operator Characteristic plots were generated using Microsoft Excel 2003 software and used to graphically display the diagnostic performance data and to explore the relationships between the reported ultrasound techniques and study characteristics,and methodology quality. We give a brief discussion of some of the contributions of Peter Lax to Com- putational Fluid Dynamics. These include the Lax-Friedrichs and Lax-Wendroff numerical schemes. We also mention his collaboration in the 1983 HLL Riemann solver. We de- velop two-dimensional Lax-Friedrichs and Lax-Wendroff schemes for the Lagrangian form of the Euler equations on triangular grids. We apply a composite scheme that uses a Lax- Friedrichs time step as a dissipative filter after several Lax-Wendroff time steps. Numerical results for Noh＇s infinite strength shock problem, the Sedov blast wave problem, and the Saltzman piston problem are presented.

Telecentres in Mountain Regions-A Peruvian Case Study of the Impact of Information and Communication Technologies on Remoteness and Exclusion

Communities in developing country mountain areas,in part due to their remoteness,find themselves excluded from social,political and economic systems; and excluded from access to resources. This paper aims to study the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on remoteness and exclusion. It utilises two models - the resource movement framework,and the "information chain" - to analyse a telecentre in one district of mountainous Huancavelica,Peru's poorest region,set in the high Andes. It finds ICTs enabling new and positive resource flows for the two key user groups:teenaged school students and young farmers. These help to maintain social networks. They also support information searches that have improved agricultural practice where other information chain resources have been available. But non-use and ineffective use of the telecentre are found where information chain resources are lacking. ICTs have some impacts on intangible elements of remoteness. In this particular example,they also offer access to some previously-excluded resources. But they have not really addressed the systematic exclusions faced by mountain communities. And they so far appear to be a technology of inequality; favouring those residents who begin with better resource *** paper concludes by offering some recommendations for mountain ICT project practice.

Heading control strategy assessment for coaxial compound helicopters

The coaxial compound helicopter has two possible strategies for heading control: collective differential and rudder deflection. A flight dynamics model is developed to assess the effect of different heading control strategies. This includes the trim characteristics, steady flight performance,controllability, and manoeuvrability. The trim study demonstrates that heading control strategies are less influential on trim results, and the steady flight performance is also not significantly affected by the heading control strategy adopted. The controllability analysis shows although heading bandwidth and phase delay results at various speeds with different heading control strategies are all satisfied, the control derivative of the collective differential decreases as speed increases, and its heading aggressive agility is degraded into Level 3 in high-speed flight. In addition, using collective differential would lead to severe heading-rolling coupling as forward speed increases. On the contrary, the control derivative and aggressive agility of the rudder deflection is improved with forward speed, and there is no evidence of heading-rolling coupling. Finally, the transient turn MissionTask-Element(MTE) is utilized to investigate the heading manoeuvre characteristics in different heading control strategies, which indicates that the collective differential would add the amplitude of control input and the power consumption during this MTE.

We examine the high density limit of the adsorption isotherms of hydrogen on MOF-5. The isotherms are calculated using quantum GCMC simulations over the pressure range： 0-150 atm （1 atm = 1.01325 ~ 105 Pa） in the subcritical and supercritical state at 30, 50, 77, 113, 196 and 296 K. The fluid phase density in the pores for each temper- ature is calculated and shown to reach values higher than normal liquid density. The fluid phase density obtained at 30 K is observed to correspond to a highly compressed liquid. The radial distribution function of the adsorbed phase at 30 and 50 K are calculated. The adsorption isotherms are compared with available experimental data at 30, 50, 77 and 298 K.

Exposure to air pollutants in Vietnam:Assessing potential risk for tourists

Tourism can form an important component of a nation＇s GDP, and Vietnam is among the most visited countries in Southeast Asia. Most studies on personal exposure focus on the general population, or occupational cohorts with exposure to specific pollutants. However, short-term exposure to air pollutants while visiting regions with high levels of air pollution can lead to acute health effects. A personal exposure study was conducted across three cities in Vietnam to estimate exposure to particulate matter （PM2.5） and black carbon for tourists. Measurements were conducted during the wet season in 2014 in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat and Nha Trang using portable instrumentation. Average 24-hr PM2.5 and BC exposures were estimated as 18.9 ± 9.24 and 3.41 ± 1.33 μg/m3 and among the three cities, Ho Chi Minh was found to have the highest PM2.5 concentrations. Environmental tobacco smoke, commuting and street food stands were found to contribute to highest levels of exposure to PM2.s and BC across all cities.

Data-augmentation for graph neural network learning of the relaxed energies of unrelaxed structures

Computational materials discovery has grown in utility over the past decade due to advances in computing power and crystal structure prediction algorithms(CSPA).However,the computational cost of the ab initio calculations required by CSPA limits its utility to small unit cells,reducing the compositional and structural space the algorithms can *** studies have bypassed unneeded ab initio calculations by utilizing machine learning to predict the stability of a ***,graph neural networks trained on large datasets of relaxed structures display high fidelity in predicting formation ***,the geometries of structures produced by CSPA deviate from the relaxed state,which leads to poor predictions,hindering the model’s ability to filter unstable *** remedy this behavior,we propose a simple,physically motivated,computationally efficient perturbation technique that augments training data,improving predictions on unrelaxed structures by 66%.Finally,we show how this error reduction can accelerate CSPA.
