One application of DNA barcoding is species identification based on sequences of a short and standardized DNA *** plants,various DNA regions,alone or in combination,have been proposed and investigated,but consensus on a universal plant barcode remains *** this study,we tested the utility of four candidate barcoding regions(rbcL,matK,trnh-psbA,and internal transcribed spacer(ITS)) as DNA barcodes for discriminating species in a large and hemiparasitic genus Pedicularis(Orobanchaceae).Amplification and sequencing was successful using single primer pairs for rbcL,trnh-psbA,and ITS,whereas two primer pairs were required for *** of sequence divergence commonly showed a "barcoding gap",that is,a bimodal frequency distribution of pairwise distances representing genetic diversity within and between species,*** primer universality,ease of amplification and sequencing,and performance in discriminating species,we found the most effective single-region barcode for Pedicularis to be ITS,and the most effective two-region barcode to be rbcL + *** discriminated at least 78% of the 88 species and correctly identified at least 89% of the sequences in our sample,and were effective in placing unidentified samples in known species *** results suggest that DNA barcoding has the potential to aid taxonomic research in Pedicularis,a species-rich cosmopolitan clade much in need of revision,as well as ecological studies in its center of diversity,the hengduan Mountains region of China.

Radiations are especially important for generating species biodiversity in mountainous *** contribution of hybridization to such radiations has rarely been ***,we use extensive genomic data to test whether hybridization was involved in evolutionary radiation within Rhododendron subgenus hymenanthes,whose members show strong geographic isolation in the mountains of southwest *** sequenced genomes for 143 species of this subgenus and 93 species of four other subgenera,and found that hymenanthes was monophyletic and radiated during the late Oligocene to middle *** hybridization events were inferred within and between the identified clades and *** suggests that hybridization occurred both early and late during diversification of subgenus hymenan thes,although the extent to which hybridization,speciation through mixing-isolation-mixing or hybrid speciation,accelerated the diversification needs further *** of isolation and contact in such and other montane ecosystems may have together promoted species radiation through hybridization between diverging populations and *** radiation processes may apply to other montane floras in this region and elsewhere.

横断山区是全球生物多样性热点地区之一,也孕育了全球最丰富的温带高寒植物多样性,但其高寒植物演化历史长期以来仍悬而未知。通过选取横断山及其邻近高寒生物区多样性较高的18个被子植物类群(共计3798种植物),并整合地理分布区和生物区的演化建立新的生物地理模型,我们分别计算了不同横断山、喜马拉雅地区和青藏高原腹地就地演化速率和迁移速率以及多样性随时间的积累。研究结果显示,横断山高寒植物多样性的积累始于早渐新世(距今约3000万年),是世界上已知起源最早的高寒生物区,之后分别在距今2300至1500万年和1000万年至700万年两个时期就地演化速率加快,是新近纪降温、造山运动与季风演化共同作用的结果。除就地演化外,横断山高寒植物多样性的另一主要来源是非高寒植物(中低海拔)迁移至高寒生物区适应性演化而来。横断山不仅是高寒物种起源和分化的摇篮,还是喜马拉雅和青藏高原高寒多样性的主要来源,仅横断山就分别贡献了迁入喜马拉雅和青藏高原高寒类群总量的42%和44%,表明了横断山在高寒植物演化中的关键作用,是生物多样性保护中需要重点关注的地区。

The hengduan Mountains region of south-west China is a noted biodiversity hotspot,but the geographic origins and historical assembly of its rich endemic flora,including the sky-island species of Solms-laubachia Muschl.(Brassicaceae),have been little *** molecular studies on the phylogeny of Solms-laubachia showed it to be paraphyletic,leading to considerable expansion not only of its taxonomic limits,but also its geographic range,with the inclusion of taxa from outside the hengduan ***,these studies provided little resolution of interspecific relationships,preventing inferences about historical biogeography within the *** the present study,new sequence data from two nuclear genes(LEAFY and G3pdh) and two chloroplast intergenic spacers(petN-psbM and psbM-trnD) were combined with existing markers to increase phylogenetic *** villosum(Maxim.) Background: Research has been conducted to assess the effectiveness of weight management, dietary and physical activity interventions in military settings. however, a recent and comprehensive overview is lacking. The aim of this systematic review is to examine the evidence and describe key components of effective interventions in terms of improving body composition, dietary behaviors, and physical activity among active-duty military ***: Pub Med, Psyc Info, and CINAhL were searched on the 17 th of November 2017 to identify interventions that promoted diet and/or physical activity among active-duty military personnel. Studies were included if they assessed outcomes related to anthropometric measurements, dietary behaviors, or fitness/physical activity levels. There were no restrictions regarding publication date, follow-up duration, and sex. After screening, a total of 136 studies were eligible. Of these studies, 38 included an educational and/or behavioral change component, and 98 had only physical or fitness training as part of basic military training. Only studies that included an educational and/or behavioral change component were assessed for quality using the Effective Public health Practice Project tool and included in the qualitative synthesis of the ***: Based on consistent evidence from studies that were rated as moderate or strong, there is good evidence that military weight management interventions are effective in improving body composition for durations of up to 12 months. Effective interventions are more likely to be high intensity(have a greater number of sessions), are more often delivered by specialists, and use theoretical base/behavioral change techniques and a standardized guideline. Dietary interventions can potentially reduce total fat and saturated fat intake. Dietary interventions that target the kitchen staff and/or increase the availability of healthy food are more likely to be effective in the short term. The resu

Lippiajavanica, a shrub of up to two meters in height, is used in South Africa against influenza,measles, rashes, stomach problems and headaches, depending on the traditional healer, and is therefore known as "fever tea" or "musudzungwane" in Tshivenda. Its essential oil (containing up to 75%piperitenone) has good insect repellent activity. In Zimbabwe and Malawi it is used mainly as a nerve *** material of Lippia javanica was harvested in Thathevondo village, Limpopo Province, South Africa, and extracted with dichloromethane to give a dark green residue. Repeated column chromatography yielded lippialactone (1). The structure (C18h24O8) was deduced from 1h and 13C NMR data. The proton connectivity pattern was determined by analysis of the proton-proton coupling constants and the correlations observed in the COSY spectrum. The signals of the proton-bearing carbon atoms were correlated with specific proton resonances in a hETCOR experiment. The subsequent analysis of the two- and three-bond (1h, 13C)correlations in a 2D hMBC experiment allowed the assignment of the structure (1) for lippialactone.

Power systems around the world have been registering a degenerating inertial response in view of the growth of inverter-based resources along with the withdrawal of conventional coal ***,there is a need for swift frequency support and its control,preferably by means of power electronic-interfaced storage devices,owing to their beneficial *** being particularly efficient,pragmatically,the traditional model-based non-linear control techniques are not highly popular in power system control design,primarily due to the complications faced in obtaining accurately suitable models for certain power system ***,the modelfree Koopman operator-based model predictive control(KMPC)has proven to be highly conducive for data-driven non-linear control *** principle behind KMPC is to change the coordinates in a manner to get an approximately linear model,which can then be controlled using a linear model predictive *** this study,we employed time-delayed embedding of measurements to reconstruct a new set of preferable coordinates,thereby suggesting an approach for finding the optimal number of time lags and the embedding dimensions which are the key parameters of this *** efficacy of this KMPC framework is established by adopting a decentralized frequency control problem through a decoupled synchronous machine system,which we proposed for both the Kundur two-area system as well as the IEEE 39-bus test system.

Chronic alcohol exposure can lead to alcoholic liver disease, including hepatitis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, and chronic inflammation can simultaneously cause systemic medical illness. Recent evidence suggests that alcoholic liver disease is a predictor for liver-related diseases, cardiovascular disease, immunologic disease, and bone disease. Chronic inflammation in alcoholic liver disease is mediated by a direct inflammatory cascade from the alcohol detoxification process and an indirect inflammatory cascade in response to gut microflora-derived lipopolysaccharides (LPS). The pathophysiology of alcoholic liver disease and its related systemic illness is characterized by oxidative stress, activation of the immune cascade, and gut-liver interactions. Integrative therapeutic strategies for alcoholic liver disease include abstaining from alcohol consumption; general anti-inflammatories such as glucocorticoid, pentoxifylline, and tumour necrosis factor-α antagonist; antioxidants such as N- acetylcysteine; gut microflora and LPS modulators such as rifaximin and/or probiotics. This review focuses on the impact of chronic liver inflammation on systemic health problems and several potential therapeutic targets.

Although low testosterone levels in men have been associated with high risk for cardiovascular disease, little is known about the association between male sex hormones and subclinical coronary disease in men with apparently low cardiometabolic risk. This study was performed to investigate the association between male sex hormones and subclinical coronary artery calcification measured as coronary calcium score in non-obese Korean men. We examined the relationship of total testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin, bioavai lable testosterone and free testosterone with coronary calcium score in 291 non-obese Korean men （mean age： 52.8--- 9.3 years） not having a history of cardiovascular disease. Using multiple linear regression, we evaluated associations between log （sex hormone） levels and log （coronary calcium score） after adjusting for confounding variables in 105 men with some degree of coronary calcification defined as coronary calcium score ~〉 1. In multiple linear regression analysis, bioavailable testosterone was inversely associated with coronary calcium score （P=0.046） after adjusting for age, body mass index, smoking status, alcohol consumption, regular exercise, mean blood pressure, resting heart rate, C-reactive protein, fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein （hDL） cholesterol, hypertension medication and hyperlipidernia medication, whereas total testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin and free testosterone were not （P=0.674, P=O. 121 and P=O. 102, respectively）. Our findings indicate that bioavailable testosterone is inversely associated with the degree of subclinical coronary artery calcification in non-obese men.

heavy alcohol consumption is associated with an increased risk of erectile dysfunction （ED）; however, the acute effects of ethanol （EtOh） on penile tissue are not fully understood. We sought to investigate the effects of EtOh on corporal tissue tonicity, as well as the intracellular Ca^2＋ concentration （[Ca^2＋]i） and potassium channel activity of corporal smooth muscle. Strips of corpus cavernosum （CC） from rabbits were mounted in organ baths for isometric tension studies. Electrical field stimulation （EFS） was applied to strips precontracted with 10 μmol L^-1 phenylephrine as a control. EtOh was then added to the organ bath and incubated before EFS. The [Ca^2＋]i levels were monitored by the ratio of fura-2 fluorescence intensities using the fura-2 loading method. Single-channel and whole-cell currents were recorded by the conventional patch-clamp technique in short-term cultured smooth muscle cells from human CC tissue. The corpus cavernosal relaxant response of EFS was decreased in proportion to the concentration of EtOh. EtOh induced a sustained increase in [Ca^2＋]i in a dose-dependent manner, Extracellular application of EtOh significantly increased whole-cell K^＋ currents in a concentration-dependent manner （P 〈 0.05）. EtOh also increased the open probability in cell-attached patches; however, in inside-out patches, the application of EtOh to the intracellular aspect of the patches induced slight inhibition of Ca^2＋-activated potassium channel （KCa） activity. EtOh caused a dose-dependent increase in cavemosal tension by alterations to [Ca^2＋]i. Although EtOh did not affect KCa channels directly, it increased the channel activity by increasing [Ca^2＋]i. The increased corpus cavemosal tone caused by EtOh might be one of the mechanisms of ED after heavy drinking.
