AIM: To study whether health utility scores can be derived from shoulder-specific ***: Authors investigated two questions:(1) do the American Shoulder and elbow Surgeons(ASeS) score and the Constant score correlate with the euroQo L(eQ-5D), a measure of health utility?(2) can the ASeS and Constant scores be obtained from a complete study sample without bias? Thirty subjects with various shoulder diagnoses completed ASeS, Constant, and eQ-5D instruments. Pearson correlations were calculated to assess the associations between eQ-5D score and ASeS and Constant ***: The correlation between eQ-5D score and ASeS score was 0.60(P eQ-5D and Constant scores(P e regression model containing ASeS score, Constant score, age, and gender failed to adequately predict eQ-5D. Moreover, 25% of patients meeting the inclusion criteria did not complete the ASeS questionnaire because they did not feel that specific questions, such as "do usual sport-list" and "throw ball overhand," applied to ***: Authors' results do not support the use of the ASeS and Constant scores in predicting euroQ ol health utility values. However, the Constant score was more suitable for this patient population because all patients were able to complete it.

Background: In children, acute bacterial rhinosinusitis (ABRS) is often complicated by ophthalmological and/or neurological involvement. These complications should be known and recognized, as they require urgent treatment with intravenous antibiotics and close in-hospital monitoring. In this study, we aimed to identify the main risk factors associated with the development of complications in children aged 2 - 17 years with ABRS. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients with ABRS complications in a primary hospital. Participants were divided into two groups: the control group comprising patients without complications (Group 1, n = 82) and the study group comprising patients with complications requiring hospitalization (Group 2, n = 41). We assessed the sociodemographic, clinical, and imaging data of both groups. Using multivariate logistic regression, we assessed risk factors of ABRS complications. Results: No socio-demographic characteristics were associated with ABRS complications (p ≥ 0.05). Factors associated with complications were delay in consultation (t = 5.282;p Conclusions: Intracranial and extracranial complications of ABRS in children have become rare in our setting. These complications can be serious and potentially fatal. Risk factors of these complications are delays in consultation, the presence of ophthalmological signs, and more than one affected sinus. Controlling modifiable factors would improve the treatment success of ABRS complications in children.

A Study of Fluid Flow in Sediments and the effect of Tidal Pumping

Offshore drilling and production operations can result in spills or leaks of hydrocarbons into seabed sediments, which can potentially contaminate these sediments with oil. If this oil later mi- grates to the water surface it has the potential for negative environmental impacts. For proper contin- gency planning and to avoid larger consequences in the environment, it is essential to understand me- chanisms and rates for hydrocarbon migration from oil containing sediments to the water surface as well as how much will remain trapped in the sediments. It is believed that the amount of oil transported out of the sediment can be affected by tidal pumping, a common form of subterranean groundwater dis- charge （SGD）. However, we could find no study experimentally investigating the phenomenon of fluid flow in subsea sediments containing oil and the effects of tidal pumping. This study presents an experi- mental investigation of tidal pumping to determine if it is a possible mechanism that may contribute to the appearance of an oil sheen on the ocean surface above a sediment bed containing oil. An experimen- tal apparatus was constructed of clear PVC pipe allowing for oil migration to be monitored as it flowed out of a sand pack containing oil, while tidal pressure oscillations were applied in three different man- ners. The effect of tidal pumping was simulated via compression of air above the water （which simulated the increasing static head from tidal exchange）. experimental results show that sustained oil release oc- curred from all tests, and tests with oscillating pressure produced for longer periods of time. Further- more, the experimental results showed that the oil migration rate was affected by grain size, oil satura- tion, and oscillation wave type. In all oscillating experiments the rate and ultimate recovery was less than the comparable static experiments. Understanding the atomistic formation of oxide layers on semiconductors is important for thin film fabrication,scaling down conventional devices and for the integration of emerging research ***,the initial oxidation of Si(111)is studied using the scanning tunneling *** to the complete saturation of the silicon surface with oxygen,we are able to probe the atomic nature of the oxide layer *** establish the threshold for local manipulation of inserted oxygen sites to be+3.8 *** by combining imaging with local atomic manipulation are we able to determine whether inserted oxygen exists beneath surface-bonded oxygen sites and differentiate between sites that have one and more than one oxygen atom inserted beneath the *** to the creation of the thin oxide film we observe a flip in the manipulation rates of inserted oxygen sites consistent with more oxygen inserting beneath the silicon surface.

This paper introduces the Integrated Security embedded Resilience Architecture (ISeRA) as an advanced resilience mechanism for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) environments. The ISeRA framework integrates security by design principles, micro-segmentation, and Island Mode Operation (IMO) to enhance cyber resilience and ensure continuous, secure operations. The methodology deploys a Forward-Thinking Architecture Strategy (FTAS) algorithm, which utilises an industrial Intrusion Detection System (IDS) implemented with Python’s Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) library. The FTAS algorithm successfully identified and responded to cyber-attacks, ensuring minimal system disruption. ISeRA has been validated through comprehensive testing scenarios simulating Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and malware intrusions, at both the IT and OT layers where it successfully mitigates the impact of malicious activity. Results demonstrate ISeRA’s efficacy in real-time threat detection, containment, and incident response, thus ensuring the integrity and reliability of critical infrastructure systems. ISeRA’s decentralised approach contributes to global net zero goals by optimising resource use and minimising environmental impact. By adopting a decentralised control architecture and leveraging virtualisation, ISeRA significantly enhances the cyber resilience and sustainability of critical infrastructure systems. This approach not only strengthens defences against evolving cyber threats but also optimises resource allocation, reducing the system’s carbon footprint. As a result, ISeRA ensures the uninterrupted operation of essential services while contributing to broader net zero goals.

Subalpine fir decline （SFD） has killed more trees in Colorado＇s high elevation forests than any other insect or disease problem. The widespread nature of this disorder suggests that the cause involves climatic factors. We examined the influence of varying combinations of average annual temperature and precipitation on the incidence and distribution of SFD. Climatic transition matrices generated in this study indicate that most healthy trees are found in climatic zones with moderate to low temperatures and high precipitation; whereas, SFD occurs mostly in zones of moderate temperatures and moderate precipitation. The contrasting distributions define an environmental mismatch. Forests matched with favorable climatic conditions thrive; those that are mismatched can become vulnerable to decline disease.

Mafic-ultramafic magmatic provinces are termed Large Igneous Provinces （LIPs） if they are large （〉10^5 km^3）, are emplaced in a short duration （ca. 〈 5 myr）（or consist of short duration pulses）, and have intraplate characteristics （i.e. are not associated with normal plate boundary processes）. This category includes the classic continental flood basalts, oceanic plateaus, bimodal-rift （passive margin） related packages, but also those events, mainly of Phanerozoic-Proterozoic age, where the plumbing system of dykes, sills and layered intrusions has been exposed by erosion. In the Archean, LIPs may be represented by the greenstone belts of the tholeiite-komatiite association. Felsic magmatism is associated with many LIPs and indeed may be dominant in some cases. LIPs are associated with continental breakup, climatic change, extinction events, and major ore deposits especially of the Ni-Cu-PGe type. Continental LIPs occur on average every 20-30 myr since 2.6 Ga; the Archean record is too poorly preserved for generalizations. LIPs occur both as isolated single events （e.g., 2055 Ma Bushveld event）, as approximately coeval but widely separated events （e.g., 65 Ma Deccan and 62 Ma NAIP）, and as regional clusters associated with supercontinent breakup （e.g., the 830-750 Ma events associated with the breakup of the proposed supercontinent Rodinia）. The LIP record represents a key tool for constraining Proterozoic paleocontinental reconstructions.
