Classification and management of community forests in Indian Eastern Himalayas:implications on ecosystem services,conservation and livelihoods

Introduction:Evidence is mounting that traditional knowledge can play a critical role in shaping the biodiversity conservation strategies and maintaining ecosystem *** study was conducted with Adi community of Arunachal Pradesh(Ar P)state in the Eastern Indian Himalayas to understand as how local systems of forest classification governs conservation tradition and influences subsistence *** Adi villages were sampled from East Siang district of Ar P.A total of 197 men and 204 women(total of 401)Adi respondents were selected for this study.A combination of methodologies including in-depth interview,transect walks,focus group discussion,participant observation and informal interactions were combined for data ***:Local forests are classified into 10 different categories based on indicators such as topography,cultural significance,use typology,ownership rights and plant diversity *** people assign different values(economic,cultural and ecological)to different forest ***,morang followed by regpi and homegardens are perceived to be more valuable to the local needs than other forests with relative ranking of a particular forest reflecting its *** access several diverse services from these community-managed *** to men(3–35%),the role of women was assessed to be much higher(65 to 100%)in conserving forest ***-led practices,instrumental in sustainable forest management,included deliberate manipulations of micro-habitats,sustainable harvesting strategies and species *** were mostly involved in ownership and decision-making roles and in devising social norms to ensure *** celebrate a number of cultural events to sustain ***-based livelihoods are intrinsically connected to forest resource conservation and are governed by community *** of the community members gather plants,hunt wild animals and access other ecosystem se

Wavelet Optimized Adaptive Mesh for MHD Flow Problems

There are many problems in science and engineering where the solution shows a boundary layer character. Near the boundary the gradient is large in contrast with the smooth behaviour in the central core. A uniform grid is, therefore, not suitable for a numerical solution. MHD flow problems belong to this category where a velocity and induced magnetic field profiles get flattened in a transverse flow. In the present paper an optimized grid has been generated using interpo-lating wavelets. The results are compared with those obtained using uniform grid, the finite element method and also from the analytical solution.

Vehicle electrification has emerged as a global strategy to address climate change and emissions externalities from the transportation *** of charging infrastructure is needed to accelerate technology adoption;however,managers and policymakers have had limited evidence on the use of public charging stations due to poor data sharing and decentralized ownership across *** this article,we use machine learning based classifiers to reveal insights about consumer charging behavior in 72 detected languages including *** investigate 10 years of consumer reviews in East and Southeast Asia from 2011 to 2021 to enable infrastructure evaluation at a larger geographic scale than previously *** find evidence that charging stations at government locations result in higher failure rates with consumers compared to charging stations at private points of *** evidence contrasts with predictions in the *** European markets,where the performance is closer to *** also find that networked stations with communication protocols provide a relatively higher quality of charging services,which favors policy support for connectivity,particularly for underserved or remote areas.

Dear editor,Lung cancer(LC)is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality globally[1].Earlier detection by screening can substantially reduce LC mortality[2,3],but should be focused on those at highest risk[4].Risk stratification for LC screening,which is mostly based on smoking history[5],is far from perfect[6].Therefore,additional criteria to better define those at highest risk of LC are needed to enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of LC *** risk prediction models incorporating classical LC risk factors[7].

Optimization of Conventional Combine Harvester to Reduce Combine Losses for Basmati Rice (<i>Oryza Sativa</i>)

A study was conducted at PAU Regional Research Station, Gurdaspur (Punjab) to investigate the design and operational parameters of threshing mechanism of conventional combine harvester for basmati crop. This study was aimed to investigate the suitable changes required in the self-propelled conventional combine harvester for harvesting the basmati crop with minimum grain losses. Field evaluation of experiment was carried out to assess the influence of independent design variable i.e., arrangement of spikes (AS) and independent operational parameters such as concave clearance (CC) and cylinder speed (CS). The study was aimed to enumerate various combining losses viz., extent of visible and invisible grain damage and threshing efficiency at different AS, CC and CS levels. The first year data recorded during 2017 were processed for the optimization during 2018. The results of the present study revealed that during 2017, maximum visible and invisible losses was 5.49% ± 0.33% and 28.07% ± 3.21%, respectively whereas after modification, these losses remained only 4.00% ± 0.80% and 24.07% ± 2.86%, respectively. The threshing efficiency remained above 99.31% ± 0.47%, for both years. Thus, optimization of combine harvester was able to save the visible grain damage by 60% to 83% and invisible grain damage by 6% to 16%, respectively during 2018 than the year 2017.

Uncured and continuously produced materials often cannot afford exposure to testing device via contact or be immersed in liquid *** makes conventional contact and immersion ultrasound（UT）poorly suited for ***,UT is highly desirable for inspection of uncured composite materials as amplitude and time of flight measurements often reveal vital material *** in non-contact ultrasound（NCU）now allow efficiency comparable to conventional ultrasound for certain *** at frequencies from 30 k Hz to 5 MHz,NCU can be used to relate signal measurements directly to material properties in materials such as fiber-based composite prepreg and most cured and uncured composites.A safe and non-destructive measurement process of relatively low cost,non-contact ultrasound presents opportunities to lower cost,reduce and identify waste,and improve production *** relationships exist between ultrasonic amplitude in non-contact through transmission and key material properties such as porosity,delamination,and homogeneity in *** converting amplitude and velocity measurements into material property values through characterization formulas（*** of impregnation=[ultrasonic amplitude*x]+y）,one can apply standard methods of manufacturing process control to hold production processes within desired control limits with real-time *** such measurements to webline material positions allows direct identification of sections of undesirable material,reducing waste and improving manufacturing yields by avoiding unnecessary disposal of uninspected *** multiple points of measurement（multiple channels）in the cross-web direction allows for up to 100%inspection and high accuracy of spatial identification on finished products.

Software to Estimate Earthquake Spectral and Source Parameters

A software (EQK_SRC_PARA) has been developed to estimate spectral parameters of earthquake source spectrum, namely: low frequency displacement spectral level (Ω0), corner frequency above which spectrum decays with a rate of 2 (fc), the cut-off frequency above which the spectrum again decays (fmax) and the rate of decay above fmax (N). A Brune’s source model [1,2] that yield a fall-off of 2 beyond corner frequency is considered with high cut-off frequency factor presented by Boore [3] that fits well for frequencies greater than fmax. The software EQK_SRC_PARA is written in MATLAB and uses input data in Sesame ASCII Format (SAF) format. The obtained spectral parameters have been used to estimate source parameters (e.g., seismic moment, source dimension and stress drop etc.) and to develop scaling laws for the study region. The cut-off frequency “fmax” can also be studied and interpreted to confirm about its origin.

The recycling of wet strength papers in a normal recycling mill is often troublesome due to the severe operating conditions required to defibre wet strength papers. The various methods are presented which will quickly allow mills to determine the most effective pulping aids to use when repulping wet strength papers. The repulping of wet strength paper with inorganic chemicals was investigated in the laboratory. The effects of major variables, that is, repulping time, pulp consistency, soaking time, temperature, and reactant concentration in the repulping stage were examined using Plackett-Burman design. The repulping time was the most crucial & influential process variable affecting repulping characteristic and formation related properties. The more significant repulping process variables affecting pulp yield were repulping time, soaking temperature and pulp consistency whereas for formation index and feature size, repulping time, pulp consistency, soaking temperature and time were the more important variables. The formation index is increased by an increase in repulping time, pulp consistency and soaking time whereas the feature size is decreased by an increase in repulping time, soaking temperature and pulp consistency. The formation index and the rejects were more sensitive to changes in process variables than were the feature size or the pulp yield. The pulp recycled from wet strength waste paper had good physical strength properties.

In the present paper, we define Dislocated Soft Metric Space and discuss about the existence and uniqueness of soft fixed point of a cyclic mapping in soft dislocated metric space. We also prove the unique soft fixed point theorems of a cyclic mapping in the context of dislocated soft metric space. Examples are given for support of the results.
