ephedroid macrofossils have been widely documented in Cretaceous deposits,including numerous from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation of Ne ***,few ephedroid macrofossils have been reported from South ***,we describe a new plant of the family ephedraceae,Arlenea delicata *** ***.,from the Lower Cretaceous Crato Formation of the Araripe Basin,Northeast Brazil,based on the vegetative and reproductive *** has the typical morphological characteristics of ephedroid plants,including fertile reproductive branches,opposite phyllotaxy,terminal female cones,a sympodial branching system,longitudinally striated internodes,and swollen *** new finding is unusual in having inner chlamydosperms subtended by two pairs of bracts,reproductive units connected to branches through swollen receptacles and a smooth seed *** new ephedroid taxon from the Crato Formation increases our understanding of plant diversity of this group during the early ***,the general morphology(fleshy bracts and enlarged receptacles)of this new fossil discovery indicates that seeds of this plant may have been dispersed by animals such as pterosaurs(mainly the Tapejaridae)and birds(enantiornithes and ornituromorpha).If true,this would explain the cosmopolitan distribution of ephedraceae in the Lower Cretaceous.

Antioxidants enzymes Activities and No Levels in Hemodialysis and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis—A Comparative Study

It consists of a retrospective study with twenty-two individuals diagnosed with DRC: fourteen HD and eight CAPD, followed up in the dialysis center of antonio Pedro University Hospital (HUAP) of Fluminense Federal University (UFF), between 2015 and 2017. Fifteen healthy control (HC) subjects were included, without diagnosed CKD. Patients with HIV positive, hepatitis A, B, and C, pregnant, cancer, smokers, alcoholics and those exposed to X-rays in the last 3 months, were excluded. objectives: As oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction may be linked to the higher prevalence of CVD in CKD patients, we measured the activities of the antioxidants enzymes: SoD and GPx and total No levels in the plasma and serum of end-stage CKD patients undergoing dialysis therapy, comparing with the HC group. Methods: Quantification of No levels was performed by fluorometric kit, while activities of SoD and GPx were determined using kinetic methods. Results: We found higher plasma SoD activity in HD (8.58 U/ml) and CAPD (10.14 U/ml), compared to C (3.73 U/ml) group, while GPx activity was decreased in HD (115.38 nmol/h/ml) and CAPD (122.76 nmol/h/ml) groups compared to HC group (275.83 nmol/h/ml). Total serum No concentration was decreased in HD (14.09 pmol/μl) and CAPD (10.26 pmol/μl), compared to non-CKD patients (49.65 pmol/μl). Conclusion: Decreased total serum No and GPx activities may lead to endothelial dysfunction and consequently a higher prevalence of CVD in CKD patients.

Introduction: 68Ga-PSMA-11 is considered the gold standard in detection of micro and oligometastases in advanced prostate cancer, being used for therapeutic planning, as well as, potentially, for evaluating response to treatment. The development of ready-to-use lyophilized kit of PSMA-11 adds quality and safety to the routine use of this radiopharmaceutical and represents a pharmacotechnical challenge as it must preserve the integrity and specificity of the ligand. Methods: PSMA-11 kit formulation was proposed, considering radiolabeling parameters and the preservation of the peptide during the lyophilization process, using mannitol as an excipient. Critical temperature characterization studies were carried out using DSC equipment and the freeze-drying process was developed. The direct radiolabeling conditions were evaluated and standardized using 68Ge/68Ga generator eluate from two different manufacturers (ITG and eckert & Ziegler). The radiochemical purity was evaluated by TLC and HPLC. Biological evaluation was carried out with lyophilized PSMA-11 to demonstrate the integrity of the peptide and preservation of biological activity after the lyophilization process. Results: Based on critical temperature characterization studies, the freeze-drying cycle was designed to reach a freezing temperature of around −40˚C and primary drying at 2˚C. Using 20 mg of mannitol, an intact and elegant lyophilized cake was obtained. PSMA-11 lyophilized kit was directly labeled with 68Ga eluate from 68Ge/68Ga GMP generators (ITG and eckert & Ziegler) resulting in % RP > 95% at pH 4.0 to 4.5. The results obtained from in vitro and in vivo biological competition studies confirmed the preservation of PSMA-11 affinity for the receptor after lyophilization. Conclusion: A lyophilized formulation (Kit) of PSMA-11 was successfully obtained, which preserved the integrity and biological activity of the peptide and guaranteed radiolabeling efficiency.

High Frequency of Antiviral Resistance Mutations in HBV Genotypes A2 and H: Multidrug Resistance Strains in Mexico

AIM:To investigate the association between human papillomavirus(HPV)and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(eSCC)in southern ***:We studied 189 esophageal samples from125 patients from three different groups:(1)102 biopsies from 51 patients with eSCC,with one sample from the tumor and another from normal esophageal mucosa distant from the tumor;(2)50 esophageal biopsies from 37 patients with a previous diagnosis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC);and(3)37 biopsies from esophageal mucosa with normal appearance from 37 dyspeptic patients,not exposed to smoking or alcohol ***-polymerase chain reaction(PCR)with the MY09/11 and GP5/6 L1primers was used to detect HPV L1 in samples fixed in formalin and stored in paraffin *** PCR reactions were performed with a positive control(cervicovaginal samples),with a negative control(Human Genomic DNA)and with a blank reaction containing all reagents except *** took extreme care to prevent DNA contamination in sample collection,processing,and ***:The histological biopsies confirmed the diagnosis of eSCC in 52 samples(51 from eSCC group and 1 from the HNSCC group)and classified as well differentiated(12/52,23.1%),moderately differentiated(27/52,51.9%)or poorly differentiated(7/52,13.5%).one hundred twenty-eight esophageal biopsies were considered normal(51 from the eSCC group,42 from the HNSCC group and 35 from dyspeptic patients).Nine had esophagitis(7 from the HNSCC and 2 from dyspeptic patients).of a total of 189 samples,only 6 samples had insufficient material for PCR analysis:1 from mucosa distant from the tumor in a patient with eSCC,3from patients with HNSCC and 2 from patients without *** 183 samples(96.8%)GAPDH,G3PDH and/orβ-globin were amplified,thus indicating the adequacy of the DNA in those *** DNA was negative in all the 183 samples tested:52 with eSCC,9 with esophagitis and 122 with normal esophageal ***:There was no evidence of HP

The aim of the current study was to determine the nature of the seasonal variability of the Suspended Particulate Matter(SPM) fluxes from the drainage basin to the estuary in a macrotidal region(Northeastern Brazil),and the estuarine response to a seawater intrusion regarding sediment deposition,which will support the understanding of the global transport of materials at the continent-ocean *** structure data was acquired using a Conductivity,Temperature,and Depth(CTD) probe with a sampling frequency of 4 *** particulate material was measured by gravimetric measurements applied to exact filtered volume *** outflows were measured through the use of an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler(ADCP) with frequency of 1.5 *** horizontal thermal and saline gradients varied from warmer and less saline waters(2014) to cooler and saline waters(2015).The gradient behavior when linked to volume transport and SPM flows,suggests a minimization of the fluvial flows in 2015,easing the advance of coastal water(CW) towards the inner estuary,leading to an inversion of the baroclinic pressure *** bottom saline front,generated by the entrance of coastal water masses,caused an increase in SPM concentrations due to increased fluid density,resuspension of previously deposited sediment,and erosion of *** concentrations of SPM indicate higher volume transport suggesting a hydraulic barrier due to the change/inversion of the baroclinic pressure gradient,resulting in water and material *** deposition was observed during neap tide,while during spring tide the material is resuspended,increasing the concentration,generating cycles of deposition and erosion during the neap-spring *** sediment in suspension that reach the estuary,even with low fluvial volume,stay in this environment forming new islands because of *** deposition rates or sediment cycling,if generated by the hydraulic barrier,may indicate that the flo

Poly(hydroxybutyrate)/poly(vinyl alcohol)(PHB/PVA)blends plasticized with glycerol were prepared by melt blending of PHB and glycerol plasticized *** PHB/PVA-glycerol compositions were 90:10,75:25 and 50:50 w/w,being the concentration of glycerol in the PVA mixture of 10 wt%.The blends were characterized by infrared spectroscopy,dynamic-mechanical thermal analysis,and scanning electron microscope of the fragile fractured *** results showed one single phase blend,indicating miscibility corroborated by the presence of a single glass transition *** blending method proved to be an efficient way to tune PHB properties keeping its biodegradable nature since both PVA and glycerol are fully biodegradable materials.

Water-Based Processing of Fiberboard of Acrylic Resin Composites Reinforced With Cellulose Wood Pulp and Cellulose Nanofibrils

Despite the great potential of cellulose wood pulp and cellulose nanofibrils as reinforcing filler in thermoplastics,its use is limited due to its tendency to form agglomerates and due to its high hydrophilic *** we describe fiberboard composites with high contents of wood pulp or cellulose nanofibrils,and a resin of poly(styrene-methyl-methacrylate-acrylic acid)used as water-based *** wood pulp and cellulose nanofibrils were used directly in the form of water *** method is based on the flocculation of the polymer emulsion followed by agglomeration of a mixture of the polymer emulsion and cellulose suspension,leading to the co-precipitation of the composite material,which can be easily separated from the water *** with acrylic polymer/cellulose fibers in the proportions of 75:25,50:50 and 25:75 wt%were *** were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SeM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA)and water absorption *** analysis revealed a very good dispersion of the fibers without evidence of agglomeration,which led to superior mechanical *** results showed the effectiveness of the methodology and the potential of cellulose wood pulp and CNF as reinforcement fillers in fiberboard composites and any other high fiber-content materials.
