“Tradamixina TP” Compound in Monotherapy for Three Months in Patients with LUTs: Observational study on Improvement of Urinary symptoms and sexual Function in Men

Introduction: Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH) and Lower Urinary Tract symptoms (LUTs) frequently affect the male population after the age of 50. Moreover, it is well known that there is a correlation of these symptoms with Erectile Dysfunction (ED) that can reach a frequency of roughly 52% in men aged between 40 and 70 years old. In this study, we aimed at evaluating the effect of a new natural compound “Tradamixina TP” (composed of 80 mg of the algae Ecklonia Bicyclis, 100 mg of Tribulus terrestris and 100 mg of Chitosan Water-soluble oligosaccharide 320 mg of serenoa repens) in the improvement of Lower Urinary Tract symptoms (LUTs). Materials & Methods: One-hundred patients with an average age of 64 years old and who were not taking any medication or phytotherapy for prostatic hypertrophy or erectile dysfunction were recruited in the study. All participants were subjected to serum prostate antigen (PsA) and uroflowmetry measuring maximal urine flow/sec (Qmax), at baseline and after 12 weeks. In addition, patients were asked to take the Tradamixina TP for 3 months and to complete at the beginning and end of the treatment the following questionnaires: 1) the IPss investigating the level of LUTs, and 2) the IIEF-15 investigating the erectile dysfunction. Results: After the treatment, the IPss scores were lower than those before the treatment. Moreover, a significant effect was found for the IIEF erectile subdomain with scores that were significantly higher at 12 weeks than at baseline. A similar result was found for the IIEF overall subdomain. A decrease of total serum PsA was also observed. Conclusions: After 3 months of daily treatment, the new compound “Tradamixina TP” improved patients’ sexual function, LUTs and led also to a decrease in serum PsA levels.

Resonators and the way they couple to external radiation rely on very different concepts if one considers devices belonging to the photonic and electronic *** terahertz frequency range,however,provides intriguing possibilities for the development of hybrid technologies that merge ideas from both fields in novel functional *** this paper,we show that high-quality,subwavelength,whispering-gallery lasers can be combined to form a linear dipole antenna,which creates a very efficient,lowthreshold laser emission in a collimated beam *** this purpose,we employ a terahertz quantum-cascade active region patterned into two 19-μm-radius microdisks coupled by a suspended metallic bridge,which simultaneously acts as an inductive antenna and produces the dipole symmetry of the lasing ***-wave vertical emission is demonstrated at approximately 3.5 THz in a very regular,low-divergence(±10°)beam,with a high slope efficiency of at least 160 mWA^(−1) and a mere 6 mA of threshold current,which is ensured by the ultra-small resonator size(VREs/λ^(3)≈10^(−2)).The extremely low power consumption and the superior beam brightness make this concept very promising for the development of miniaturized and portable THz sources to be used in the field for imaging and sensing applications as well as for exploring novel optomechanical intracavity effects.

Video-Assisted Anterior Retroperitoneal Approach to the Lumbar spine. A Minimal Invasive Technique Improved by the Use of Endoscopic Camera to Treat Lumbar spine Diseases

The anterior retroperitoneal approach is a technique to treat disc degenerative disease (DDD), spinal deformities, traumas, tumors and infections. It can be used to perform Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusions (ALIF) or Total Disc Replacements (TDR). Though being a fast procedure that is becoming more often used by spinal surgeons, the anterior approach requires an adequate knowledge of the anatomy of the abdomen to lessen the risks of intraoperative complications. The authors’ preferred technique is the left retroperitoneal video-assisted approach, using an endoscope to visualize and magnify the deep anatomical structures, discectomy procedure and hardware implant. In a review of our casuistry from 2010 to 2012, 163 patients underwent an anterior lumbar approach, and 139 of these had a single L4-5 or L5-s1 level treatment. A 3.6% rate of global complications (1.44% of major vascular injuries) has been observed, with a mean operation time of 116.4 minutes and a mean blood loss of 156.1 ml. These values show how the anterior retroperitoneal video-assisted approach for the treatment of lumbar diseases is a fast procedure that implies low blood loss, with a low rate of intraoperative complications.

Background:The end-stage liver disease causes a metabolic dysfunction whose most prominent clinical feature is the loss of skeletal muscle mass(sMM).In living-donor liver transplantation(LDLT),liver graft regeneration(GR)represents a crucial process to normalize the portal hypertension and to meet the metabolic demand of the *** data are available on the correlation between pre-LDLT low sMM and ***:Retrospective study on a cohort of 106 LDLT patients receiving an extended left liver lobe *** skeletal muscle index(sMI)at L3 level was used for muscle mass measurement,and the recommended cut-off values of the Japanese society of Hepatology guidelines were used as criteria for defining low *** was evaluated as rate of volume increase at 1 month post-LT[graft regeneration rate(GRR)].Results:The median GRR at 1 month post-LT was 91%(IQR,65-128%)and a significant correlation with graft volume-to-recipient standard liver volume ratio(GV/sLV)(rho-0.467,Pst-LT cholinesterase serum levels(rho 0.397,P=0.002)and pre-LT low muscularity[absent *** GRR 97.5%(73.1-130%)vs.83.5%(45.2-110.9%),P=0.041]was *** in male recipients,but not in women,it was shown a direct correlation with pre-LT sMI(rho 0.352,P=0.020)and inverse correlation with 1 month post-LT sMI variation(rho-0.301,P=0.049).A low GRR was identified as an independent prognostic factor for recipient overall survival(HR 6.045,Psions:Additionally to the hemodynamic factors of portal circulation and the quality of the graft,the metabolic status of the recipients has a significant role in the GR process.A pre-LT low sMM is associated with impaired GRR and this negative impact is more evident in male recipients.

Intestinal occlusion by internal hernia is not a rare complication(0.2%-5%)after Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y-GBP(LGBP)with higher morbidity and mortality related to mesenteric vessels *** our Center,from October 2009 to April 2013 we have had 17 pts treated for internal hernia on 412 LGBP(4.12%).Clinical case:28-year-old woman,operated of LGBP(BMI=49;comorbidity:diabetes mellitus and arthropathy)about 10mo before,was affected by recurrent abdominal pain with alvus alteration lasting for a *** vomiting,she went to first aid Unit of a peripheric hospital where she made blood tests,RX and Us of abdomen that resulted normal so she was discharged with flu like syndrome *** 3 d the patient contacted our Center since her symptoms got worse and was *** tests showed an alteration of hepatic enzymes and *** abdominal computed tomography(CT)showed the presence of fluid in perisplenic,peri-hepatic areas and in pelvis and a"target like imagine"of"clustered ileal loops"with a superior mesenteric vein(sMV)thrombosis involving the Portal *** the operation,we found a necrosis of80 cm of ileus(about 50 cm downstream the jejuno-jejunal anastomosis)due to an internal hernia through Petersen’s space causing a sMV *** necrotic bowel was removed,the internal hernia was reduced and Petersen’space was sutured by not-absorbable running *** anticoagulant therapy was begun in the post-operative time and the patient was discharged after 28 ***:The internal hernia diagnosis is rarely confirmed by preoperative exams and it is obtained in most cases by laparoscopy but the improvement of technologies and the discover of"new"CT signs interpretation can address to an early laparoscopic treatment for high suspicion cases.

Clinical Management and Evaluation of White spot Lesions: A Report of 11 Cases

Introduction: Today’s society is always more interested to the concept of aesthetics. The patients frequently ask to dentist to resolve unaesthetic problems of teeth, in particular that of the upper frontal group. The WSLs are enamel white alterations due to alteration during the demineralization and remineralization of enamel. This effect is caused by alteration of the pH in the oral cavity and buffer action of saliva. An alteration of this relationship leads to a progressive demineralization of enamel until the formation of a dental cavitation. Materials and Methods: For this study are selected 11 patients, of which 3 men and 8 women, with total of 17 WSLs. The inclusion criteria included WLSs with ICDAS = 2 and WLSs caused by hypomineralization of traumatic origin. These patients were subjected to treatment with infiltrating resin according to operative procedure. Discussion: The therapy with infiltrating resin gave great results in 12 lesions out of 17. In the lesions where there weren’t a complete remission we obtained a great aesthetic improvement and a good reduction of lesions. The follow up could improve the result after a better rehydration of hard tissue. Conclusions: With a correct selection of cases and good operative procedure, the use of the micro-infiltrative technique by low viscosity resin is a good procedure to resolve WSLs problems of non-orthodontic origins. Other studies with a larger sample are required to validate this clinical approach.

Three-Tesla Magnetic Resonance and Computed Tomography Imaging in Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy for Localized Prostate Cancer

Aims and background: we evaluate CT-3Tesla MRI fusion in conformal radiotherapy for localized prostate ***: 18 consecutive patients underwent a 3T MRI scan under radiotherapy planning conditions, after the CT scan. Bowel and bladder preparation were prescribed. CT and MR images were automatically fused;prostate and seminal vesicles were contoured on CT and on MRI, organs at risk were defined on CT-MRI fusion. Late rectal and sexual toxicity, differences in target volume between MRI and CT and differences in rectal and penile bulb dose distribution based on CT only or on CT-MRI fusion were ***: one patient experienced a late rectal toxicity;no patient had sexual toxicity. The difference between the mean MRI and CT target volumes was statistically significant (p = 0.0001 paired student's t-test). The dose-volume histogram (DVH) analysis shows a significant reduction of the dose received by the rectum and the penile bulb in MRI-plans compared to ***: 3 Tesla MRI scan under radiotherapy planning conditions along with bowel preparation significantly improves the definition of the target volume sparing normal tissue irradiation.
