Background: The present work is aimed at evaluating the effect of different inclusion levels of a partially defatted black soldier fly(Hermetia illucens,L.;HI) larva meal for ducks.A total of 192 female 3-day-old Muscovy ducklings(Cairina moschata domestica,Canedins R71 L White,Grimaud Freres selection,France) were divided into 4 groups,assigned 4 different dietary treatments(6 replicates/treatment and 8 birds/replicate) and reared from 3 to 50 days of *** larva meal was included at increasing levels(0,3%,6% and 9%,HI0,HI3,HI6 and HI9,respectively) in isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets formulated for 3 feeding phases: starter(3–17 days of age),grower(18–38 days of age) and finisher(39–50 days of age).The growth performance and apparent total tract digestibility were evaluated during the trial using titanium dioxide as an inert marker(0.3% of inclusion).At 51 days of age,two birds per pen were slaughtered and histomorphological investigations were ***: The live weight and average daily gain showed a quadratic response to increasing HI meal in the grower period(minimum corresponding to the HI6 group).No effects of dietary inclusion levels were observed for the daily feed intake or feed conversion *** apparent dry matter and organic matter digestibility were not affected by the dietary treatment.A linear decrease was observed for the crude protein apparent digestibility in the starter period(minimum for the HI9 groups).The ether extract apparent digestibility increased linearly during the grower and finisher periods(minimum for the HI0 group).The morphometric indices were not influenced by the dietary ***: The inclusion of up to 9% of HI partially defatted larva meal in the diet of ducks did not cause any effect on growth performance,as well as the apparent ***,dietary HI inclusion preserved the physiological intestinal development.

地中海隼(Falco biarmicus feldeggii)是欧洲濒危程度最高的物种之一。其全球数量估计不超过几百对,不均匀分布于西西里至里海的广阔而片断化的地区。最近统计表明,西西里地中海隼在全部种群数量中占很大比例(>25%)。因此,意大利政府提出一项国家行动计划。在这一计划框架下,我们在意大利进行了首次地中海隼种群数量的全国调查(2003～2004年)。本研究的地理范围包括地中海隼的整个繁殖区,即西西里和意大利半岛(n=2909栅格单元,10km×10km)。另外,我们尽量考虑了以往(1993～2001年)区域调查的结果。我们对各个繁殖亚群的大小和分布进行评估,鉴别在景观尺度上与巢址空间分布相关的主要环境特征。在184个栅格单元(全部栅格地图的6.4%)中发现有地中海隼的存在,但同一繁殖期内地中海隼数量估计不超过140～172对(其中70～80对分布于西西里)。大陆繁殖栅格的隔离程度较高,而西西里地区的单元更为密集。海拔高度是意大利单元聚集性的主要影响因素;另外气候、降水量和植被等环境因素对此也有重要影响。本研究表明保护区内的处于繁殖期的地中海隼数量较少(23%～28%),意大利政府的保护措施还不够完善。在适于地中海隼巢址不规则空间聚集的优先性生境保护方面,多个小型、分散分布的特定保育区(sAC)优于大型特定保护区(sPA)。

Photodynamic therapy with topical aminolevulinic acid

Photodynamic therapy(PDT) is a relatively new therapy in dermatology that uses the topical application of a porphyrin derivative to selectively destroy a cutaneous target. The action is implemented by the application of a specific light frequency. The ability of porphyrin to selectively target tumor tissue has been known since the 1960 s. In the late 1970 s, the underlying mechanism was defined, and Dougherty's discovery of the first chromophore led to the production and commercialization of Photofrin. Many other chromophores that can act as photosensitizers have been studied since then, with aminolevulinic acid currently the most commonly used chromophore in clinical practice. PDT is simple, minimally invasive and can be administered on an outpatient basis. The efficacy of PDT has been proven for actinic keratosis, Bowen's disease and basal cell carcinoma; another of its well-known applications is the treatment of photoaging. Indications for its use are continuously increasing, and promising results are reported for various skin diseases. In this paper we report the mechanism of action of PDT with aminolevulinic acid, the literature concerning the most common diseases treated with PDT and the subsequent level of evidence.

Contrast enhanced ultrasound with quantitative perfusion analysis for objective characterization of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: A feasibility study

The aim of this study was to determine whether contrast enhanced ultrasound(CEUs) quantitative perfusion analysis allows an objective characterization of ductal adenocarcinoma(ADK) of the pancreas. Patients with pancreatic ADK underwent CEUs. All examinations were performed on an Acuson s2000 system(siemens, Erlangen, Germany) after the iv administration of 2.4 mL contrast agent(sonoVue, Bracco, Milan, Italy). All lesions were pathologically proved. An operator manu-ally drew different regions of interest within the tumor and the adjacent parenchyma to allow the quantita-tive perfusion analysis. The mean values of peak of enhancement, time to peak and ascending curve were calculated and compared using the student's t test. The quantitative perfusion analysis was possible in all lesions. The mean values of the peak of enhancement, time to peak and ascending curve were 17.19%, 7.97 s and 159.52% s within the tumor and 33.57%, 8.89 s and 355.29% s within the adjacent parenchyma. The peak of enhancement and the ascending curve values were significantly different within the tumor and the ad-jacent parenchyma. Thus, CEUs allows the quantitative perfusion analysis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Chlamydial infections in urological disease: A challenging management

Chlamydia trachomatis(Ct) infections are the most prevalent sexually transmitted bacterial infections worldwide, causing considerable morbidity and socioeconomic problems. Moreover, Ct infections are asymptomatic in approximately 50% of infected men and 70% of infected women, with the risk for reproductive tract sequelae both in women and men. Recent studies have improved the comprehension of this infection and its natural history, also highlighting its role in decreasing male fertility. severe complications can be avoided only by a proper early diagnosis and appropriate treatment. We reviewed the literature relating to the new findings in the treatment of Ct infection in sexually active young men. Articles from 1960-2012 were identified through a Medline search using the keywords"Chlamydia trachomatis " combined with "urethritis", "epididymitis", "prostatitis", "treatment" or "management". Currently, several studies have been published about the role of new antibiotic schedules and new associated compounds in order to improve the efficacy in terms of microbiological results and patient quality of life. In particular, several studies stress the fact that Chlamydia is only metabolically active in the host cell and therefore only targeted intracellularly by antibiotics. Even although the standard therapy includes intracellularly-accumulated antibiotics such as tetracyclines or macrolides, recent evidence highlights the role of quinolones. In particular, recent studies highlight the role of prulifloxacin in the treatment of chronic prostatitis for improving the patient's quality of life and decreasing the IL-8 level. However, future studies should focus on delineating the natural history of recurrent infections, paying particular attention to treatment failures.

AIM To present the current state-of-the art of molecular imaging in the management of patients affected by inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODs A systematic review of the literature was performed in order to find important original articles on the role of molecular imaging in the management of patients affected by IBD. The search was updated until February 2016 and limited to articles in *** Fifty-five original articles were included in this review, highlighting the role of single photon emission tomography and positron emission tomography. CONCLUsION To date, molecular imaging represents a useful tool to detect active disease in IBD. However, the available data need to be validated in prospective multicenter studies on larger patient samples.
