The Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(SMILE)is a joint mission of the European Space Agency(ESA)and the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS).Primary goals are investigating the dynamic response of the Earth's magnetosphere to the solar wind(SW)impact via simultaneous in situ magnetosheath plasma and magnetic field measurements,X-Ray images of the magnetosheath and magnetic cusps,and UV images of global auroral *** deformations associated with magnetosheath high speed jets(HSJs)under a quasi-parallel interplanetary magnetic field condition are studied using a threedimensional(3-D)global hybrid *** X-ray intensity calculated based on both physical quantities of solar wind proton and oxygen ions is *** obtain key findings concerning deformations at the magnetopause:(1)Magnetopause deformations are highly coherent with the magnetosheath HSJs generated at the quasi-parallel region of the bow shock,(2)X-ray intensities estimated using solar wind h+and self-consistentO7+ions are consistent with each other,(3)Visual spacecraft are employed to check the discrimination ability for capturing magnetopause deformations on Lunar and polar orbits,*** SMILE spacecraft on the polar orbit could be expected to provide opportunities for capturing the global geometry of the magnetopause in the equatorial plane.A striking point is that SMILE has the potential to capture small-scale magnetopause deformations and magnetosheath transients,such as HSJs,at medium altitudes on its *** results also demonstrate that a lunar based imager(e.g.,Lunar Environment heliospheric X-ray Imager,LEXI)is expected to observe a localized brightening of the magnetosheath during HSJ events in the meridian *** preliminary results might contribute to the pre-studies for the SMILE and LEXI missions by providing qualitative and quantitative soft X-ray estimates of dayside kinetic processes.

Developing Public Sector Cost Accounting Systems Case Finnish Defence Forces

This paper addresses the relationship between ＂new＂ and the ＂old＂ public performance management; the dialogue between imported idealistic designs and the inherently stable existing （performance） management systems （Carmona ＆ Gronlund, 2003; Hyvonen, Jairvinen, Pellinen, ＆ Rahko, 2009; Scapens ＆ Ter Bogt, 2009）. We see the co-existence of imported and traditional, both idealistic and realistic models of performance management as problematic. Such performance management models are based on different institutional logics that are the taken-for-granted rules guiding behavior of field-level actors, and related practices that predominate in an organizational field. These logics help to explain connections that create a sense of common purpose and unity within an organizational field （Scott, 2001; Kitchener, 2002）. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and illustrate how institutional pressures for management accounting change are formed. Most studies on change and stability of management accounting pay little attention on how institutional pressures for accounting change are formed, especially on the political field level. Our study demonstrates how various actors at the political field level participate in creating institutional pressures in diverse and sometimes contradictory ways. Drawing on archival data and 20 interviews with public officials, we seek to illustrate how different organizational field-level actors＇ views on implementing cost accounting differ, and how these views have influenced the outcome of cost accounting development in the Finnish Defence Forces. Our results suggest that contradictory institutional logics exist in relation with Finnish central government management-by-results, performance management and cost accounting systems. A value-for-money ideology in the armed forces sector （see e.g., Gr6nlund ＆ Catasus, 2005） at times seems to challenge and even contradict the ＂legalistic＂ tradition of developing cost accounting that conforms to budgetar

Adaptive Matrix/Vector Gradient Algorithm for Design of IIR Filters and ARMA Models

This work describes a novel adaptive matrix/vector gradient (AMVG) algorithm for design of IIR filters and ARMA signal models. The AMVG algorithm can track to IIR filters and ARMA systems having poles also outside the unit circle. The time reversed filtering procedure was used to treat the unstable conditions. The SVD-based null space solution was used for the initialization of the AMVG algorithm. We demonstrate the feasibility of the method by designing a digital phase shifter, which adapts to complex frequency carriers in the presence of noise. We implement the half-sample delay filter and describe the envelope detector based on the Hilbert transform filter.

Owing to their higher intrinsic electrical conductivity and chemical stability with respect to their oxide counterparts, nanostructured metal sulfides are expected to revive materials for resistive chemical sensor applications. Herein, we explore the gas sensing behavior of WS2 nanowire-nanoflake hybrid materials and demonstrate their excellent sensitivity （0.043 ppm-1） as well as high selectivity towards H2S relative to CO, NH~, H2, and NO （with corresponding sensitivities of 0.002, 0.0074, 0.0002, and 0.0046 pprn-1, respectively）. Gas response measurements, complemented with the results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis and first-principles calculations based on density functional theory, suggest that the intrinsic electronic properties of pristine WS2 alone are not sufficient to explain the observed high sensitivity towards H2S. A major role in this behavior is also played by O doping in the S sites of the WS2 lattice. The results of the present study open up new avenues for the use of transition metal disulfide nanomaterials as effective alternatives to metal oxides in future applications for industrial process control, security, and health and environmental safety.

Reconstruction of UWB Impulse Train by Parallel Sampling of Cascaded Identical RC Filters

In this framework we present a new method for measurement of the UWB impulse train based on the parallel sampling of the cascaded identical RC filters. We show that the amplitudes and time locations of p sequential impulses can be reconstructed from simultaneous measurement of the outputs from 2p cascaded identical RC filters. The parallel sampling scheme has a wide range of applications including the detection of the ultra wideband (UWB) impulses. Due to identical analog RC filters and buffer amplifiers, the parallel sampling scheme is flexible to implement in VLSI applications.

Is There an Association between Temperament and Apolipoprotein E? A Replication of a 1993 Young Finns Study

Background: An association between apolipoprotein E (apoE) gene polymorphism and temperament has been found in the Young Finns cohort. Motor activity in childhood and mental vitality, sociability and positive emotionality in adolescence were associated with apoE. Two research groups have attempted to replicate these findings but no associations have been found. Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to confirm the original findings with new and more reliable genotyping from a larger sample derived from the same Young Finns Study as the original ***: The study included 2808 participants aged 3 - 18 years in 1980. The same methods in assessing temperament were used as in the original study. Temperament was operationalized as motor activity, cooperativeness, negative emotionality, mental vitality, sociability and positive emotionality. Temperament was assessed by participants’ mothers in 1980 and 1983 and self-rated in 1983 by adolescent participants. Results: Motor activity was not associated with apoE polymerphisms. All other previous results were replicated. Adolescents’ positive emotionality, mental vitality and sociability were associated with apoE. Conclusions: The results indicated that there is an association between temperament and apoE. The previous absence of association between temperament and apoE in the replication studies may be due to the fact that researchers used different dimensions of temperament and thus probably studied different phenomena. Cultural differences in personality assessment might also explain the contradictory findings.
