Correlating dynamic relaxation and viscoelasticity in metallic glasses

Relaxation dynamics,essential for the structural evolution of non-equilibrium systems like glassy materials,remain enigmatic.Here,we explore relaxation dynamics and viscoelastic properties in three types of metallic glasses with distinctβrelaxation behavior.In systems with significantβrelaxation,stress relaxation and creep experiments reveal a transition from two-step to one-step relaxation with rising temperature.However,such a phenomenon is absent in systems with weakerβrelaxation.We model the two-step relaxation process using a double Kohlrausch-Williams-Watts equation,and the obtained relaxation times elegantly adhere to the Arrhenius relationship.By combining fitted activation energies with theoretical analysis,we conclusively attribute these relaxation processes toβrelaxation andαrelaxation,respectively.Finally,we analyze the relaxation time spectra of two processes and establish a comprehensive picture linking dynamic relaxation with viscoelasticity.Our study provides new strategies for probing the complex relaxation behaviors of glasses from the perspective of viscoelasticity.

The underwater X-ray imaging technology development is significant to subaqueous target reconnaissance/detection/identification, subfluvial archaeology,submerged resource exploration, etc. As the core of X-ray imaging detection, the scintillator has been plagued by inherent moisture absorption and decomposition, and strict requirements for seamless packaging and waterproofing.Here, we designed a manganese-doped two-dimensional(2D) perovskite scintillator modified by hydrophobic longchain organic amine through the combination of component and doping engineering. The modified perovskites show high water repellency that can be used as an underwater X-ray scintillator. X-ray images of aquatic organisms or other objects with a high spatial resolution of10 lp·mm^(-1) at a big view field(32 mm × 32 mm) were obtained by scintillation screen. This hydrophobic perovskite scintillator based on molecular design is of great promise in underwater X-ray nondestructive testing technology development.

The optimal atropine concentration for myopia control in Chinese children: a systematic review and network Metaanalysis

AIM:To figure out whether various atropine dosages may slow the progression of myopia in Chinese kids and teenagers and to determine the optimal atropine concentration for effectively slowing the progression of myopia.METHODS:A systematic search was conducted across the Cochrane Library,PubMed,Web of Science,EMBASE,CNKI,CBM,VIP,and Wanfang database,encompassing literature on slowing progression of myopia with varying atropine concentrations from database inception to January 17,2024.Data extraction and quality assessment were performed,and a network Meta-analysis was executed using Stata version 14.0 Software.Results were visually represented through graphs.RESULTS:Fourteen papers comprising 2475 cases were included;five different concentrations of atropine solution were used.The network Meta-analysis,along with the surface under the cumulative ranking curve(SUCRA),showed that 1%atropine(100%)>0.05%atropine(74.9%)>0.025%atropine(51.6%)>0.02%atropine(47.9%)>0.01%atropine(25.6%)>control in refraction change and 1%atropine(98.7%)>0.05%atropine(70.4%)>0.02%atropine(61.4%)>0.025%atropine(42%)>0.01%atropine(27.4%)>control in axial length(AL)change.CONCLUSION:In Chinese children and teenagers,the five various concentrations of atropine can reduce the progression of myopia.Although the network Meta-analysis showed that 1%atropine is the best one for controlling refraction and AL change,there is a high incidence of adverse effects with the use of 1%atropine.Therefore,we suggest that 0.05%atropine is optimal for Chinese children to slow myopia progression.

Multi-time Collaborative Restoration for Integrated Electrical-gas Distribution Systems Based on Rolling Optimization

This paper proposes a multi-time collaborative restoration model for integrated electricity-gas distribution sys-tems(IEGDSs)considering multiple resources after extreme weather events.Based on the linearized power flow constraints of the unbalanced electrical distribution system(EDS)and gas distribution system(GDS),this problem can be formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming(MILP)model.To improve the efficiency and veracity of the solution,a rolling optimiza-tion based two-stage method is developed with the first stage solved by a linear approximation model,and the second stage solved by real-time updated rolling optimization.By solving the MILP problem using rolling optimization,the proposed model and solution method achieve efficient and reliable collaborative restoration of IEGDS considering multiple resources and unbal-anced operation characteristics of EDS.The effectiveness of the proposed model and method is validated by using an IEGDS made of a 37-bus unbalanced EDS and 11-node GDS.Index Terms-Electricity-gas system,mix-integer linear programming,power system restoration.

Endotherms recently expanding to cold environments generally exhibit strong physiological acclimation to sustain high body temperature.During this process,gut microbes likely play a considerable role in host physiological functions,including digestion and thermogenesis.The light-vented bulbul Pycnonotus sinensis represents one such species.It used to be restricted to the Oriental realm but expanded its distribution range north to the Palearctic areas during the past few decades.Here,we explored the seasonal dynamics of the resting metabolic rate(RMR)and microbiota for local and newly colonized populations of the species.Our results showed that the mass-adjusted RMR and body mass were pos-itively correlated with latitude variations in both seasons.Consistently,the gut microbiota showed a corresponding variation to the northern cold environments.In the two northern populations,the alpha diversity decreased compared with those of the two southern populations.Significant differences were detected in dominant phyla,such as Firmicutes,Bacteroidetes,Proteobacteria,and Desulfobacterota in both seasons.The core microbiota showed geographic differences in the winter,including the elevated relative abundance of 5 species in northern populations.Finally,to explore the link between microbial communities and host metabolic thermogenesis,we conducted a correlation analysis between microbiota and mass-adjusted RMR.We found that more genera were significantly correlated with mass-adjusted RMR in the wintering season compared to the breeding season(71 vs.23).These results suggest that microbiota of the lighted-vented bulbul linked with thermogenesis in diversity and abundance under northward expansion.

Triceps skinfold thickness trajectories and the risk of all-cause mortality:A prospective cohort study

BACKGROUND The measurement of triceps skinfold(TSF)thickness serves as a noninvasive metric for evaluating subcutaneous fat distribution.Despite its clinical utility,the TSF thickness trajectories and their correlation with overall mortality have not been thoroughly investigated.AIM To explore TSF thickness trajectories of Chinese adults and to examine their associations with all-cause mortality.METHODS This study encompassed a cohort of 14747 adults sourced from the China Health and Nutrition Survey.Latent class trajectory modeling was employed to identify distinct trajectories of TSF thickness.Subjects were classified into subgroups reflective of their respective TSF thickness trajectory.We utilized multivariate Cox regression analyses and mediation examinations to explore the link between TSF thickness trajectory and overall mortality,including contributory factors.RESULTS Upon adjustment for multiple confounding factors,we discerned that males in the‘Class 2:Thin-stable’and‘Class 3:Thin-moderate’TSF thickness trajectories exhibited a markedly reduced risk of mortality from all causes in comparison to the‘Class 1:Extremely thin’subgroup.In the mediation analyses,the Geriatric Nutritional risk Index was found to be a partial intermediary in the relationship between TSF thickness trajectories and mortality.For females,a lower TSF thickness pattern was significantly predictive of elevated all-cause mortality risk exclusively within the non-elderly cohort.CONCLUSION In males and non-elderly females,lower TSF thickness trajectories are significantly predictive of heightened mortality risk,independent of single-point TSF thickness,body mass index,and waist circumference.

Improved simulation of winter wheat yield in North China Plain by using PRYM-Wheat integrated dry matter distribution coefficient

The accurate simulation of regional-scale winter wheat yield is important for national food security and the balance of grain supply and demand in China.Presently,most remote sensing process models use the“biomass×harvest index(HI)”method to simulate regional-scale winter wheat yield.However,spatiotemporal differences in HI contribute to inaccuracies in yield simulation at the regional scale.Time-series dry matter partition coefficients(Fr)can dynamically reflect the dry matter partition of winter wheat.In this study,Fr equations were fitted for each organ of winter wheat using site-scale data.These equations were then coupled into a process-based and remote sensingdriven crop yield model for wheat(PRYM-Wheat)to improve the regional simulation of winter wheat yield over the North China Plain(NCP).The improved PRYM-Wheat model integrated with the fitted Fr equations(PRYM-Wheat-Fr)was validated using data obtained from provincial yearbooks.A 3-year(2000-2002)averaged validation showed that PRYM-Wheat-Fr had a higher coefficient of determination(R^(2)=0.55)and lower root mean square error(RMSE=0.94 t ha^(-1))than PRYM-Wheat with a stable HI(abbreviated as PRYM-Wheat-HI),which had R^(2) and RMSE values of 0.30 and 1.62 t ha^(-1),respectively.The PRYM-Wheat-Fr model also performed better than PRYM-Wheat-HI for simulating yield in verification years(2013-2015).In conclusion,the PRYM-Wheat-Fr model exhibited a better accuracy than the original PRYM-Wheat model,making it a useful tool for the simulation of regional winter wheat yield.

Low-molecular-weight fucoidan inhibits the proliferation of melanoma via Bcl-2 phosphorylation and PTEN/AKT pathway

Fucoidan,a sulfate polysaccharide obtained from brown seaweed,has various bioactive properties,including anti-inflammatory,anti-cancer,anti-viral,anti-oxidant,anti-coagulant,anti-thrombotic,anti-angiogenic,and anti-Helicobacter pylori properties.However,the effects of low-molecular-weight fucoidan(LMW-F)on melanoma cell lines and three dimensional(3D)cell culture models are not well understood.This study aimed to investigate the effects of LMW-F on A375 human melanoma cells and cryopreserved biospecimens derived from patients with advanced melanoma.Ultrasonic wave was used to fragment fucoidan derived from Fucus vesiculosus into smaller LMW-F.MTT and live/dead assays showed that LMW-F inhibited cell proliferation in both A375 cells and patientderived melanoma explants in a 3D-printed collagen scaffold.The PTEN/AKT pathway was found to be involved in the anti-melanoma effects of fucoidan.Western blot analysis revealed that LMW-F reduced the phosphorylation of Bcl-2 at Thr 56,which was associated with the prevention of anti-apoptotic activity of cancer cells.Our findings suggested that LMW-F could enhance anti-melanoma chemotherapy and improve the outcomes of patients with melanoma resistance.

This prospective multicenter phase II study evaluated the clinical efficacy of neoadjuvant nivolumab-exclusive(N)and nivolumab–chemotherapy(N/C)combinations based on PD-L1 expression.Eligible patients exhibited resectable clinical stage IIA–IIIB(AJCC 8th edition)NSCLC without EGFR/ALK alterations.Patients received either mono-nivolumab(N)or nivolumab+nabpaclitaxel+carboplatin(N/C)for three cycles based on PD-L1 expression.The primary endpoint was the major pathological response(MPR).Key secondary endpoints included the pathologic complete response(pCR),objective response rate(ORR),and event-free survival(EFS).Baseline PD-L1 expression and perioperative circulating tumor DNA(ctDNA)status were correlated with pCR and EFS.Fifty-two patients were enrolled,with 46 undergoing surgeries.The MPR was 50.0%(26/52),with 25.0%(13/52)achieving pCR,and 16.7%and 66.7%for patients with PD-L1≥50%in N and N/C groups,respectively.Thirteen(25.0%)patients experienced grade 3 or higher immune-related adverse events during neoadjuvant treatment.Patients with post-neoadjuvant ctDNA negativity was more likely to have pCR(39.1%)compared with those remained positive(6.7%,odds ratio=6.14,95%CI 0.84-Inf,p=0.077).With a median follow-up of 25.1 months,the 18-month EFS rate was 64.8%(95%CI 51.9–81.0%).For patients with ctDNA–vs.ctDNA+,the 18m-EFS rate was 93.8%vs 47.3%(HR,0.15;95%CI 0.04,0.94;p=0.005).Immunochemotherapy may serve as an optimal neoadjuvant treatment even for patients with PD-L1 expression≥50%.ctDNA negativity following neoadjuvant treatment and surgery could help identify superior pathological and survival benefits,which requires further confirmation in a prospective clinical trial(NCT04015778).

High-resolution neutronics model for ^(238)Pu production in high-flux reactors

We proposed and compared three methods(filter burnup,single energy burnup,and burnup extremum analysis)to build a high-resolution neutronics model for 238Pu production in high-flux reactors.The filter burnup and single energy burnup methods have no theoretical approximation and can achieve a spectrum resolution of up to~1 eV,thereby constructing the importance curve and yield curve of the full energy range.The burnup extreme analysis method combines the importance and yield curves to consider the influence of irradiation time on production efficiency,thereby constructing extreme curves.The three curves,which quantify the transmutation rate of the nuclei in each energy region,are of physical significance because they have similar distributions.A high-resolution neutronics model for ^(238)Pu production was established based on these three curves,and its universality and feasibility were proven.The neutronics model can guide the neutron spectrum optimization and improve the yield of ^(238)Pu by up to 18.81%.The neutronics model revealed the law of nuclei transmutation in all energy regions with high spectrum resolution,thus providing theoretical support for high-flux reactor design and irradiation production of ^(238)Pu.
