Silica‐bonded N‐propylpiperazine sodium n‐propionate(SBPPSP) was found to act as an efficient solid base for the preparation of a series of 4h‐benzo[b]pyran derivatives. SBPPSP was used as a recyclable heterogeneous solid base catalyst for the synthesis of 3,4‐dihydropyrano[c]chromenes, 2‐amino‐4h‐pyrans, 1,4‐dihydropyrano[2,3‐c]pyrazoles, and 2‐amino‐4h‐benzo[e]‐chromenes via the condensation reaction of dimedone, ethyl acetoacetate, 3‐methyl‐1‐phenyl‐1h‐pyrazol‐5(4h)‐ one, and α‐naphthol, respectively, with aromatic aldehydes and malononitrile in refluxing aqueous ethanol. The heterogeneous solid base showed similar efficiency when reused in consecutive reactions.

Narrow solar-light response range and rapid charges recombination are the main technical barriers in TiO_(2) photocatalysis *** overcome these restrictions,in this work we synthesized a novel binuclear gadolinium(Ⅲ) coordination complex,[Gd_(2)(DPDB)_6(DMF)_6(h_(2)O_()2)](DPDB=[(4-dimethylamino)phenyldiazenyl] benzenesulfonate),which was used as an inorganic sensitizer for boosting the visible light-harvesting and quantum efficiency of TiO_(2) supported-reduced graphene oxide(rGO) *** structure of [Gd_(2)(DPDB)_6(DMF)_6(h_(2)O)_(2)](Gd-CMP) was determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data,which indicates three-dimensional(3D) supramolecular architecture through hydrogen bonding and Ch…π_(ph) *** prepared nanohybrid(Gd-CMP/TG) reveals significantly enhanced visible-light-induced photocatalytic activity for degradation of acetaminophen(ACT).The complete removal of 10 mg/L ACT is achieved over Gd-CMP/TG,and the corresponding rate constant of ACT degradation of nanohybrid is 40-fold higher than that of bare TiO_(2).In prepared ternary nanohybrid,metal-coordination sensitizer(Gd-CMP) acts as an electron donor,and at the same time,rGO serves as an electron acceptor,and the synergistic effect between them efficiently enhances charges separation and inhibits e/h pair recombination in the hybridized *** radical scavenger tests indicate that the photo-induced O_(2)^(-·) radicals dominate ACT *** the basis of the experimental results and calculated energy of electronic levels,a possible mechanism for the improved photocatalytic activity is discussed.

Photo oxidation of DBT using carbon nanotube titania composite as visible light active photo catalyst

Sulfur removal from liquid fuels has increased in importance in recent years. Although hydrodesulfurization is the usual method for removing sulfur, the elimination of thiophene compounds using this process is difficult. Photocatalysis is an alternative method being developed for thiophene removal at ambient conditions. Among semiconductors, titania has shown good potential as a photo-catalyst; however, quick recombination of electron holes hinders its commercial use. One way to decrease the recombination rate is to combine carbon nanotubes with a semiconductor. In this work, multiwall carbon nanotube （MWCNT） / titania composites were prepared with different mass ratios of MWCNT to titania using tetraethyl orthotitanate （TEOT） and titanium tetra isopropoxide （TTIP） as precursors of titania. Dibenzothiophene （DBT） photocatalytic removal from n-hexane was measured in both the presence and absence of oxygen. The results indicated that the best removal occurred when the MWCNT to titania ratio was 1. When the ratio exceeded this number, DBT removal efficiency decreased due to light scattering. Also, the composites prepared by TEOT exhibited better efficiency in DBT removal. The research findings suggested that the obtained composite was a visible light active photocatalyst and exhibited better performance in the presence of oxygen. Kinetics of photocatalytic DBT removal was a first-order reaction with removal rate constant 0.7 h–1 obtained at optimum conditions.

A rapid synthesis of high surface area PdRu nanosponges:Composition-dependent electrocatalytic activity for formic acid oxidation

here, Pd Ru nanoparticle networks（NPNs） with various compositions were synthesized through an inexpensive method in water as a green solvent, at different ratios of the h;PdCl;and RuCl;precursors. This is a fast, room temperature and surfactant free strategy which is able to form high surface area metal nanosponges with a three-dimensional（3D） porous structure. The structure of as-prepared nanosponges was characterized using the techniques of field emission scanning electron microscopy（FESEM）, energy dispersive spectroscopy（EDS） and cyclic voltammetry（CV）. Then, the electrocatalytic activities of Pd Ru NPNs towards formic acid oxidation were examined by electrochemical measurements including CV,chronoamperometry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy（EIS）. Based on studies, it was found that the current density of formic acid oxidation（FAO） is strongly dependent on the composition of Pd Ru NPNs. The best performance was realized for Pd;Ru;NPNs compared to monometallic Pd counterpart and other bimetallic NPNs which might be ascribed to the role of Ru in the decrease of CO adsorption strength on the catalyst and consequently the priority of formic acid oxidation through the direct pathway. The Pd;Ru;NPNs also showed the maximum current density and stability in chronoamperometric measurements. In addition, comparative studies were performed between as-prepared NPNs and CNTs-supported Pd nanoparticles（Pd NPs/CNTs）. The present results demonstrated the unique structural advantages of NPNs compared to individual Pd NPs supported on the CNT which leads to the promising performance of NPNs as supportless catalysts for the oxidation of formic acid.

A Randomized,Double Blinded,Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial of Silymarin in Ulcerative Colitis

Objective： To evaluate the clinical efficacy of silymarin in ulcerative colitis （UC） patients. Methods： A randomized double blinded placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted in 80 UC patients whose disease had been documented and were in remission state between September 2009 and October 2010. Patients were assigned to silymarin group （42 cases） and placebo group （38 cases） using a random number table. Either silymarin （140 mg） or placebo （lactose mono-hydrate, corn starch magnesium stearate） tablets were given once daily for 6 months along with their standard therapy. The efficacies were assessed by disease activity index （DAI）, frequency difference of the disease flare-up, and paraclinical data. Results： Ten patients （4 in the silymarin group due to nausea and 6 in the placebo group due to disease flare-up and abdominal pain） discontinued the study. An improvement in hemoglobin level （11.8± 1.6 g/dL vs. 13.4± 1.2 g/dL, P〈0.05） and erythrocyte sedimentation rate （23.7 ＋_ 11.5 mm/h vs.10.8＋ 3.2 mm/h, P〈0.05） was observed in the silymarin group but not in the placebo group. DAI significantly decreased in the silymarin group and reached from 11.3 ± 3.5 to 10.7±2.8 （P〈0.05）. Thirty-five out of 38 patients in the silymarin group were in complete remission with no flare-up after 6 months as compared to 21 out of 32 patients in the placebo group （P=0.5000）. Conclusion： Silymarin as a natural supplement may be used in UC patients to maintain remission.

Fully reversible spectral compression of arbitrary pulsed data signals

Data signals consisting of arbitrarily modulated sequences of pulses are extensively used for processing and communication *** spectral extent of such signals is determined by the bandwidth of the individual pulses in the sequence,which imposes a fundamental limit to the maximum amount of information that can be transmitted or processed per time *** this work,we propose and experimentally demonstrate that the frequency spectrum occupied by a data-modulated pulse sequence can be significantly compressed to well below the individual pulse bandwidth while still maintaining the temporal duration of the pulses in the sequence and without losing any of the information carried by the *** proposed method involves fully reversible linear transformations of the data signal along the time and frequency *** demonstrate successful pulse-shapepreserving spectral compression and subsequent full waveform and information recovery of a^10 Gb/s optical pulse sequence,modulated by an arbitrary data pattern,liberating over 60%of its *** findings should prove useful for applications in signal processing,communications,and others.

Seismic Response of a Typical Fixed Jacket-Type Offshore Platform (SPD1) Under Sea Waves

Offshore platforms in seismically active areas should be designed to service severe earthquake excitations with no global structural failure. In seismic design of offshore platforms, it is often necessary to perform a dynamic analysis that accounts for nonlinear pile soil structures interaction effects. This paper summarizes the nonlinear dynamic analysis of a 3-D model of a typical Jacket-Type platform which is installed in Persian Gulf (SPD1), under simultaneously wave and earthquake loading has been conducted. It is assumed that they act in the same and different directions. The interaction between soil and piles is modeled by equivalent pile length theory. The structure is modeled by finite element method (Ansys Inc.). It be concluded that when the longitudinal components of the earthquake and wave are in different directions, an increase on the response of platform can be seen.
