Solubility study and selective purification of HMX explosive in organic electrolyte solution of zinc acetate/diethylene glycol

In this study, an organic electrolyte solution based on zinc acetate/diethylene glycol(ZA/DEG) is introduced for the selective purification of cyclotetramethylene tetranitramine(HMX) high explosive from its identical homologue cyclotrimethylene trinitramine(RDX). The dielectric constant of various organic solutions were investigated through Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy(EIS) in the range of 1.0 Hz—30 MHz. and some quantum-chemical descriptors of RDX and HMX dissolutions in the ZA cosolvent were analyzed using Density Functional Theory(DFT). The results show dielectric constant and solubility of RDX is higher than that of HMX, and by increasing of ZA concentration in DEG solvent, the values of dielectric constants were enhanced. Furthermore, the presence of ZA cosolvent on the solubility of two explosives was statistically investigated by Central Composite Design(CCD) of experiment, and some solubility parameters including activity coefficient, dissolving enthalpy, and mixing enthalpies were determined. The experimental results indicate that the weight ratio of RDX to HMX solubility in the proposed organic electrolyte changes up to 30 times, which provides a selective and sequential separation method to separate two materials with similar chemical properties with a separation efficiency>98% and HMX purity> 99.8%. The X-Ray Diffraction(XRD) analysis, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC), Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy(LIBS), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FT-IR) approves the acceptable quality of the separated materials. The proposed method makes the efficient and safe purification of high-quality HMX for application in oil and gas well perforating gun charges, using a nonvolatile and inflammable organic electrolyte.

Effects of Annealing on the Fabrication of Al-TiAl3 Nanocomposites Before and After Accumulative Roll Bonding and Evaluation of Strengthening Mechanisms

The strengthening mechanisms of Al-TiAl_(3) nanocomposite, fabricated using cold roll bonding, annealing, and accumulative roll bonding(ARB) on Al sheets sandwiching with pure Ti powder were investigated in the present study. With annealing at 590 ℃ for 2 h, TiAl_(3) intermetallic compound was formed. After subsequent ARB process up to 5 cycles, final composite consists of ultrafine Al grains of less than 500 nm with TiAl_(3) particles larger than 200 nm. The strength and hardness of the final composite are 2.5 and 3.5 times the initial values, with an ultimate tensile strength of 400 MPa, which is dominated by grain-boundary strengthening due to the ultrafine Al grains, and Orowan strengthening due to the small TiAl_(3) particles. For comparison, an alternative fabrication route of cold roll bonding–ARB–annealing was also studied. This study showed that annealing before ARB is a critical factor in producing an ultrafine grain structure containing TiAl_(3) particles.

To provide flexibility for the operation of smart electricity networks,a large number of scattered demand response resources are managed by a demand response aggregator(DRA).Increasing the economic viability of this new entity,i.e.,DRA,has attracted a great deal of attention in recent *** this direction,this paper proposes stochastic model of multiple large-scale energy storage system(LESS)investments from the perspective of a DRA.A LESS directly connects to smart distribution networks and provides the possibility to save energy costs and thereafter increase the energy efficiency of the *** this paper,a novel mixed-integer model is proposed to determine the optimal capacity and operation of a LESS in coordination with a DR *** model,as a main contribution to literature,comprises novel managerial options,such as the number of allowed DR actions,the number of allowed charging and ***,the model is designed to be capable enough to exclude the hours in which the demand side is not allowed to participate in *** proposed model is tested through a numerical example with various case *** simulation results show the substantial economic impacts of considering the introduced managerial options in the coordination of a LESS operation with DR.

Magnetic polyacrylonitrile/ZIF-8/Fe_(3)O_(4) nanocomposite bead as an efficient iodine adsorbent and antibacterial agent

The efficient adsorption of radioactive iodine(^(129)I and^(131)I)as nuclear waste is of great *** nanocomposites consist of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)developing for various pollutions sorption and separation have attracted much *** study reports the fabrication of magnetic polyacrylonitrile(PAN)/zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIF-8)nanocomposites,PAN/ZIF-8(x%)/Fe_(3)O_(4),x=30 and 50,as iodine capture *** PAN/ZIF-8(x%)/Fe_(3)O_(4)nanocomposite beads were fabricated via the phase inversion method,and their potential for iodine capture and separation in solution and vapor was investigated through UV-vis and weighing methods,***,antibacterial activity of the as-prepared beads was assessed against *** and *** as-fabricated compounds were studied by various techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared,X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscope,energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy mapping,transmission electron microscope,N_(2)adsorption isotherm,and vibrating sample *** iodine capture results showed that the efficiency of nanocomposites is remarkably higher than the pure PAN ***,the asprepared nanocomposite adsorbents displayed higher capture capacities for iodine vapor(1524-4345mg·g^(-1))than iodine solution(187-295 mg·g^(-1)).The as-obtained magnetic nanocomposites can be successfully separated from polluted media by simple filtration or an external magnet,regenerated through washing with ethanol,and *** capturing,high sorption capacity,rapid separation,and good reusability make the PAN/ZIF-8(x%)/Fe_(3)O_(4)nanocomposites highly effective adsorbents for the separation of iodine from ***,PAN/ZIF-8(50%)/Fe_(3)O_(4)bead can be considered as a potential new antibacterial agent for water and wastewater treatment.

Fracture permeability estimation utilizing conventional well logs and flow zone indicator

Characteristics of the natural open fractures on the oil and gas reservoirs is crucial in drilling and production planning. Direct methods of fractures studies such as core analysis and image log interpretation are usually not performed in all drilled wells in a field. Therefore, in absence of these data, the indirect methods can play an important role. In this study, an integrated algorithm is introduced to identify the fractures and estimate its permeability employing conventional well logs. First, open fractures were identified and their properties including density, aperture, porosity and permeability were estimated using FMI log. Subsequently, the fracture index log (FR_Index) was estimated utilizing conventional logs including density, micro-resistivity, sonic (compressional, shear and stoneley slownesses), and caliper logs. After that, the fracture index permeability was estimated by improving the FZI permeability equation. The coherence coefficient between two estimated fracture permeability logs is 0.66. A good correlation is observed on the high permeability zones, but the lower correlation on the low permeability zones. It is notified that, in the high fracture permeability zones, the conventional logs are heavily impacted by fracture permeability. However, due to lower vertical resolution of conventional logs compared with the image logs, the conventional logs are less influenced by less dense fracture zones. However, this algorithm can be used with acceptable accuracy in all uncored and image log wells.

A novel control strategy based on a look-up table for optimal operation of MTDC systems in post-contingency conditions

Multi terminal VSC-HVDC systems are a promising solution to the problem of connecting offshore wind farms to AC *** power sharing and appropriate control of DC-link voltages are essential and must be maintained dur-ing the operation of VSC-MTDC systems,particularly in post-contingency *** traditional droop control methods cannot satisfy these requirements,and accordingly,this paper proposes a novel centralized control strategy based on a look-up table to ensure optimal power sharing and minimum DC voltage deviation immediately during post-contingency conditions by considering converter *** also reduces destructive effects(e.g.,frequency devia-tion)on onshore AC grids and guarantees the stable operation of the entire MTDC *** proposed look-up table is an array of data that relates operating conditions to optimal droop coefficients and is determined according to N-1 contingency analysis and a linearized system *** constraints and contingencies such as wind power changes,converter outage,and DC line disconnection are considered in its formation *** performed on a 4-terminal VSC-MTDC system in the MATLAB-Simulink environment validate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control strategy.

Discretization of annular-ring diffraction pattern for large-scale photonics beamforming

A solid-state active beamformer based on the annular-ring diffraction pattern is demonstrated in an integrated photonic *** a circularly symmetric annular-ring aperture achieves a radiating element limited field of ***,it is demonstrated that a multi-annular-ring aperture with a fixed linear density of elements maintains the beam efficiency for larger apertures while reducing the beamwidth and side-lobe level.A 255-element multi-annular-ring optical phased array with active beamforming is implemented in a standard photonics process.A total of 510 phase and amplitude modulators enable beamforming and beam steering using this aperture.A row-column drive methodology reduces the required electrical drivers by more than a factor of 5.

Small parasitic Hemipteran insects known as bedbugs(Cimicidae)feed on warm-blooded mammal’s *** most famous member of this family is the Cimex lectularius or common *** current paper proposes a novel swarm intelligence optimization algorithm called the Bedbug Meta-Heuristic Algorithm(BMHA).The primary inspiration for the bedbug algorithm comes from the static and dynamic swarming behaviors of bedbugs in *** two main stages of optimization algorithms,exploration,and exploitation,are designed by modeling bedbug social interaction to search for *** proposed algorithm is benchmarked qualitatively and quantitatively using many test functions including *** results of evaluating BMHA prove that this algorithm can improve the initial random population for a given optimization problem to converge towards global optimization and provide highly competitive results compared to other well-known optimization *** results also prove the new algorithm's performance in solving real optimization problems in unknown search *** achieve this,the proposed algorithm has been used to select the features of fake news in a semi-supervised manner,the results of which show the good performance of the proposed algorithm in solving problems.
