Effect of modified atmosphere packaging on the mechanical properties of lettuce during shelf life in cold storage

Lettuce is a perishable vegetable that its shelf life is limited by detrimental texture changes and enzymatic activities during postharvest *** of solutions that can be used in storage and distribution of this product is modified atmosphere packaging(MAP).But its effects on the mechanical properties of the product have not been *** information would be beneficial in inspection of eating quality and later processing such as cutting and *** research aimed to study effect of active MAP technology on the postharvest mechanical properties of lettuce at different storage *** was found that MAP had a significant effect on the tension property of the lettuce *** treatment preserved the brittleness of the specimens during storage,but the control ones lost their brittleness and tolerated greater *** and rupture energy were significantly affected by MAP with P values of 0.01 and 0.05,***,stiffness of the MAPtreated samples was higher than the control at the same storage *** findings are due to reducing respiration,transpiration and bacterial growth by MAP which delays nutrient decomposition and maintains the original color and texture.

Apart from number and size of machines in a farm,operations scheduling can also affect timeliness *** this study a new equation was presented for determination of timeliness costs and it was proven that the new equation is a generalization of the well-known ASABE standard *** on the new equation,a parameter namely,timeliness index was defined that indicates the distribution of an operation around the optimum time of performing the *** minimizing the index,the whole timeliness cost is *** the planting operation is highly sensitive to its time of accomplishment,timeliness cost was determined *** this study the optimum planting starting date(opls)regarding the concept of timeliness costs,was *** for any reason,the planting operation cannot be performed in the minimum planting period,an optimization method is required to determine *** this,a numerical approach and an analytical method were presented for determination of opls and a computer model was developed based on the numerical *** was determined for the Research Farm of the University of Tehran in Karaj–Iran and both methods showed good agreement with each other.

Optimal design of rotary tiller’s rotor and width proportionate to tractor power using energy method

The goal of the modern farming systems is to economize energy consumption and to reduce farming *** selection and use of agricultural machines are important factors to achieve this *** tillers are tillage tools that are used for accomplishment of both the primary and secondary tillage *** the widespread application of rotary tillers and wide use of modern tractors in Iran,optimal design of these machines is *** in this study,the optimal working width and optimal diameter of the rotary tiller's rotor proportionate with the power of the MF 399 tractor was delineated based on the energy *** theoretical method is based on the specific works of tractor and rotary *** showed that the optimal working width and optimal diameter of the rotary tiller’s rotor with maximum of forward speed 1 m/s for tractor was 240 cm and 6.27 cm,respectively.

Outcomes of surgical correction of Peyronie’s disease with plaque excision and grafting: Comparison of testicular tunica vaginalis graft versus bovine pericardium graft

Objective:Peyronie’s disease(PD)is an abnormal wound healing in the penile tunica *** fibrotic plaque excision,different graft materials have been used to repair the defects,but the optimal graft remains *** study aimed to compare the functional outcomes of testicular tunica vaginalis grafts and bovine pericardium grafts in patients with severe ***:A retrospective comparative study was conducted on 33 PD patients undergoing partial plaque excision and grafting from September 2015 to May *** patients were divided into two groups depending on the type of graft *** 15 patients in Group B,testicular tunica vaginalis grafts were used to repair the defect,while for 18 patients in Group A,bovine pericardium grafts were *** of the patient’s age,comorbidities,sexual function,penile curvature,postoperative complications,need for further treatment,change in penile length,and satisfaction were gathered and compared between the *** function was evaluated using the 5-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5),and a functional less than 20-degree penile curvature after surgery was considered a successful ***:There was no difference in age,comorbidities,degree of curvature,perioperative IIEF-5,operative time,plaque size,or complication *** surgery,a statistically significant improvement in curvature degree(p<0.05)and satisfactory penile appearance(p<0.05)were seen in both groups without any superiority between the two groups(p=0.423 and p=0.840,respectively).With a 30-month follow-up,the IIEF-5 was consistent in both groups,with no statistical significance between the groups(p=0.492).The main change in penile length during the operation was increased and still positive in the last follow-up in both groups without statistical significance(p=0.255 and p=0.101,respectively).Conclusion:Partial plaque excision and corporoplasty with both testicular tunica vaginalis or bovine pericard
