Dear Editor,In the European region,which shares 22.8%of the global cancer burden for 10%of the global population,there were around 4.4 million new cancer cases and 1.9 million deaths from cancer in 2020[1].The reasons for the high cancer incidence rates are complex;however,diet and dietary components are among the main contributors to cancer risk[2].In modern-day living,a growing proportion of people include in their diets ultra-processed *** of food processing and home-prepared foods are so-called dietary advanced glycation endproducts(AGEs),which are reactive metabolites emerging during the breakdown of reducing *** production is preponderant in dry high-heat processes(e.g.,baking,roasting);hence foods such as cakes,crisps,crackers,cereal products,meat and meat-derived products represent a major source of dietary AGEs[3].

Status and prospects for symmetric organic redox flow batteries

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify, large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind, hydro, and solar with the electrical *** flow batteries, particularly those employing organic molecules, are positioned as a key technology for this purpose. This review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(ORFBs) within this context. Unlike traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode, symmetric ORFBs involve a single bipolar species for both electrodes. This review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design, and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents. By providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics, the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems, as are opportunities for future development. This should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric ORFBs.

Single-emitter super-resolved imaging of radiative decay rate enhancement in dielectric gap nanoantennas

High refractive index dielectric nanoantennas strongly modify the decay rate via the Purcell effect through the design of radiative *** to their dielectric nature,the field is mainly confined inside the nanostructure and in the gap,which is hard to probe with scanning probe *** we use single-molecule fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy(smFLIM)to map the decay rate enhancement in dielectric GaP nanoantenna dimers with a median localization precision of 14 *** measure,in the gap of the nanoantenna,decay rates that are almost 30 times larger than on a glass *** comparing experimental results with numerical simulations we show that this large enhancement is essentially radiative,contrary to the case of plasmonic nanoantennas,and therefore has great potential for applications such as quantum optics and biosensing.

Machine learning empowers efficient design of ternary organic solar cells with PM6 donor

Organic solar cells(OScs) hold great potential as a photovoltaic technology for practical ***, the traditional experimental trial-and-error method for designing and engineering OScs can be complex, expensive, and time-consuming. Machine learning(ML) techniques enable the proficient extraction of information from datasets, allowing the development of realistic models that are capable of predicting the efficacy of materials with commendable accuracy. The PM6 donor has great potential for high-performance OScs. However, it is crucial for the rational design of a ternary blend to accurately forecast the power conversion efficiency(PcE) of ternary OScs(TOScs) based on a PM6 ***, we collected the device parameters of PM6-based TOScs and evaluated the feature importance of their molecule descriptors to develop predictive models. In this study, we used five different ML algorithms for analysis and prediction. For the analysis, the classification and regression tree provided different rules, heuristics, and patterns from the heterogeneous dataset. The random forest algorithm outperforms other prediction ML algorithms in predicting the output performance of PM6-based TOScs. Finally, we validated the ML outcomes by fabricating PM6-based TOScs. Our study presents a rapid strategy for assessing a high PcE while elucidating the substantial influence of diverse descriptors.

Finite Element Structural Analysis of Buried Pipelines

This document uses previous results (which we call the first stage), for the development of a computer model based on finite elements under the FEAP programmer, to carry out a structural analysis of a pipeline. For this purpose, we used environmental variables that we believe influence the failure of buried pipelines such as the internal pressure of fluid, the type of support used, the temperature at which the pipelines work, the type of soil and the stiffness of the soil acting on it. Once the model was finalized, analyses were made with each of the variables separately and combined to observe the behavior of the pipeline, finding the most unfavorable case that indicates the main causes that led to its failure.

Effects of metoclopramide on gastric motility measured by short-term bio-impedance

AIM:To analyze the accuracy of short-term bio-impedance as a means of measuring gastric ***: We evaluated differences in the short-term electrical bio-impedance signal from the gastric region in the following conditions: (1) fasting state, (2) after the administration of metoclopramide (a drug that induces an increase in gastric motility) and (3) after food ingestion in 23 healthy volunteers. We record-ed the real component of the electrical impedance signal from the gastric region for 1000 s. We performed a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) on this data and then compared the signal among the fasting, medicated, and postprandial conditions using the median of the area under the curve, the relative area under the curve and the main peak ***: The median of the area under the curve of the frequency range in the region between 2-8 cycles per minute (cpm) decreased from 4.7 cpm in the fasting condition to 4.0 cpm in the medicated state (t=3.32, P=0.004). This concurred with the decrease seen in the relative area under the FFT curve in the region from 4 to 8 cpm from 38.3% to 26.6% (t=2.81, P=0.012) and the increase in area in the region from 2 to 4 cpm from 22.4% to 27.7%, respectively (t=-2.5, P=0.022). Finally the main peak position also decreased in the region from 2 to 8 cpm. Main peak activity in the fasting state was 4.72 cpm and declined to 3.45 cpm in the medicated state (t=2.47, P=0.025). There was a decrease from the fasting state to the postprandial state at 3.02 cpm (t=4.0, P=0.0013). cONcLUSION: Short-term electrical bio-impedance can assess gastric motility changes in individuals experiencing gastric stress by analyzing the area medians and relative areas under the FFT curve.

Metallography of an Underground Oil Pipeline

The purpose of this article is to show a metallographic analysis of an underground pipeline taken out of operation upon failure. The pipeline had an 8.89 cm (3.5”) diameter and a 7 mm thickness. The study was based on a 45 cm long pipe sample, visibly and entirely corroded, with a fish-mouth crack along its length. The work contributes to finding new ways to prevent structural failure, which has high-impact consequences from the point of view of production, damage to property, pollution, and risks to human live. Through this analysis the knowledge on behavior of failures in terrestrial ducts has been extended. Development of the research included metallographic, chemical, and mechanical tests on the sample in order to know the composition of the material, its strength and its physical conditions upon taking it out of operation. After the analysis of the laboratory tests, the physical and chemical features were compared to existing national and international regulations, which allowed a specific characterization of the conditions of the sample. In accordance with the regulations, the grade of the pipe was between ×65 and ×70. Tensile testing was carried out to obtain mechanical properties in order to corroborate the grade of pipeline steel and complement the metallographic analysis.
